Such a long wait to our next raid. Just so you guys know, I am extremely satisfied with tonight's progress. Went in with a plan, executed it, learned and tweaked each pull and got it down in 4.
Learned dps is very tight for Frags with our setup, no hymns during it
Big add snafu
Chalk this to the RNG as one volcano took way too long
A bit messy at the end, but got it!
Anyways, some fun facts:
Damage taken per second was down about 3K from Tuesday's attempts
Subsequently, HPS went down the same amount so I assume you healers were allowed retain more mana
Without Superheated, the P2 immolation aura was ticking for about 4K, as opposed to 7K, which seemed managable to the point where Elasped can almost solo heal that phase
Without Superheated, Rhyolith's melee averaged 43K, as opposed to 83K
And Stomps where down 4K avg, and Eruptions down 600 avg.
The damage that did go up was Meltdown (aka add explosions). Actually took more damage than all 10 attempts of Tuesday combined. But the avg hit of each was 10K lower, just 4X the rate.
It was expected since I had most of us focused on legs and allowed the adds to live at low hp rather than focus and outright kill them all.
I'm guessing the healers found it a fair tradeoff? More random small(er) damage from these, but lower overall damage everywhere else and shorter fight.
Anyways, I guess homework for everyone this weekend is to research Domo. We've pretty much seen most of the fight now. Just need to fine tune the transitions and stack numbers and burn through it and hope we got the dps for it.
I think that just adding one dps on legs will be enough. We dont want to gimp add dmg by doing 2.
I almost want to say we are good as is, its just getting a little better RNG. That last attempt we were VERY close, and while the volcano spawn placement was good, we didnt really have good RNG on the ones he activated until the very end when we hit 3 in a row quickly. We were kiting him quite a while for the a lot of the early volcanos, and we kept getting him to around 40-45, by the time we got him to the next one he was back up to 55-60. It took longer than it should have and we were lucking to get those 2 side by side to finally get him to 30 armor, then another right after we hit heroism which brought his armor to ~20. As Elapsed said, the fight is all about RNG. If we couldve had some better volcano activations, we wouldve been golden.
Plus when we tried adding an additional dps full time on him last
week, it really screwed with the kiting because we were all going
full-bore on him to get him down faster, but in turn it was making it
more difficult to accurately turn him because he was turning so much
faster than was needed so he was missing volcanos left and right. Seems like overall wed be doing less damage to
him over time because wed have to be more careful about how hard we are
hitting the specific legs to ensure we dont screw up the kiting or cause
him to BARELY miss a volcano like it was happening last week.
I
think 2 people just might make it worse... Its possible it could help
balance it though. Having 2 additional dps on the legs dedicate
themselves to 1 specific leg each, and then Saedo and I worry about the
turning might help balance it, but then I think we would REALLY have issues
with adds.
RNG is a crutch. We can't just go about a billion pulls waiting for that 1 perfect volcanco path. The thing we can do to mitigate that RNG is to increase dps substantially to get it down faster. And I think the only way we can squeeze as much out as we can is to coordinate it more efficiently.
Firstly, I know I've been seen some focused aoe on the obsidium slimes. That's gotta stop completely, and that dps is better spent on the legs if there's no other adds up. More splash dps will be needed around the legs to take out as many of them as possible. If we want to really be fancy, always always tank the Frags under the legs so AoE will hit both legs and all the slimes around it. But will that be too complicated? Will all those additonal nameplates blind people? Food for thought.
Secondly, a switch to the 2-3 strongest AoE'ers might be sufficient to take down the Fragments just enough. We may have been using Foresight very inefficiently by having him on legs with us. And like I said before, the Frags don't necessarily have to die, just every one of them have a low hp. A lot of raids are able to do it with 2 strong AoE'ers, I suppose we may go 3. Or maybe 2.5, with the 3rd one only helping for like half the time, 15 secs or so then back on legs or something. Of course, Shards will require the floater dps to switch to quickly burn.
Thirdly, having 2 additional dps on the legs means we have to coordinate better so the turning isn't so fast. Like even on our current attempts, when you say go right, I actually sometimes hit the left leg to make sure we're not turning as fast. It's all about coordinating properly (so we're screwed?). The floaters have to listen to what direction we want, they just focus on that leg. We'll have to make our adjustments to the proper leg to manage speed (which is why /assist macros are not that good here, listen!).
I also have been using this mod, that lets me see who's targetting what leg. Like if someone's on the left leg while we're turning right or something.... And, it lists the dps happening on each leg too, so we can better see what adjustments can be made to balance it out more.
I might be late too, since Oct. 5th is my 15th wedding anniversary and my wife and I will be going out to dinner, but no time has been set. I just hope she doesn't pull the "come hang out with me" card afterwards, which usually means watching TV. Anyhow, if I'm not on at 9, you know why. Don't text me either, please. Either I come on at 9 or I come on when I can.
News of the day. Cromi will be late til 10:15-30ish. We may start just that late, or we may find a replacement to start earlier. Stay tuned.
On to other business. Heroic Rhyolith. The more I think/read about this the more I'm thinking... We absolutely have to avoid the superheated "soft enrage".
On pretty much all our attempts we wiped at the 3rd stack of Superheated. Some attempts did have more of course, but started to gain before we even pushed P2.
So what can we do? More dps on the legs. We were barely getting adds down before right? But maybe we can still work this with some coordination.
First off, I want 2 (maybe 3) dedicated ranged dps for the adds, and they should be our 2 strongest aoe'ers. I take it that should be Knoppix, and.... Foresight?
I'm hoping you can can almost duo the Fragments all by your lonesome selves. And quick fact, the Fragments don't have to necessarily die. After 30 seconds of spawning, they choose a random target, and deal damage to that single target based on the hp they have left. It is not a raid wide aoe explosion. So as long as all of them are chipped down in HP somewhat, maybe random raid members will feel like a 10K damage tickle. Just don't leave any up at full health....
Though I suppose the healers would like to lessen the amount of tickles too. If need be, throw the next strongest aoe'er with you guys.... Is that Plumsauce?
That leaves me, Mehguy, Kaluu, Feld, and maybe Plum on legs....
Except when the Sparks spawn. Now we utilize some floater dps! Plum and Feld joins Foresight and Knoppix in burning that sucker down.
Then get back on legs.
The obsidium oozes? They are IGNORED. Yes. Do not spend anytime at all killing them directly. Get them when you're aoe splashing the other adds. Or cleaving. Or multishotting.
Remember, the legs are 2 close targets. If your multi-target abilities can be efficiently used to hit both legs, do it. For example, I keep Blade Flurry up all the time, essentially 1/3rd increase in my dps efforts to get both legs down. Sure, it may slow the turns a bit, but as long as I hit my main leg target harder and with others on the correct leg, turning has been fine.
So in summary...
Operation: Avoid Superheated Completely by Adding More DPS to the Legs in Which We All Have to Coordinate More while Avoiding Shit for the Healers
Such a long wait to our next
