So, while poking around on mmo-champ forums for priests, i came across a few things:
Disc's rapture returns are now hotfixed to 200% (up from 150%) of spirit, and Divine aegis has been buffed to 50%(up from 30%).
We're supposed to kill all the pillars at the same time on Elegon to minimize the number of adds that spawn. In addition, when we're killing sparks, we're supposed to ignore the 5th spark completely, and focus on the boss.
I was thinking a little bit in regards to the pillars as well. Not so much of minimizing adds, but just to reduce the amount of time in there... I figure tank and highest dps in between closest/middle pillar, then next 2 dps in between middle/far pillar? Focus outside pillars first then all 4 of us on middle pillar to nuke it down last.
Definitely agree on sparks. I think 4 is all we can get with our dps where its at currently. Part of our uptake on boss issue was a few people still working on sparks too late when they should be on boss. Tonight we can try for 4 sparks, if not well have to roll with 3 each time and hope we can press through last phase with only 6 stacks. I did see a few vid kills with only 6 stacks but it was ROUGH.
On the subject of uptime on the boss, I talked to a raiding Hunter on Rexxar (they're doing hard modes now) and he says that ranged DPS can simply stand on the edge of the platform and spacebar to hop in place to remove stacks of the debuff you get for being in the celestial circle. This doesn't strip your Touch of the Titans (or wtf the buff is called) You have to be positioned correctly to do it, but that would be a huge boon to myself and, I'm sure, other DPS in the group. Just being able to hop at 6 stacks and not have to worry about having to run in/out sounds amazing to me.
sounds like an idea... BUT... my concern is that it may not be good for casters.
As an example, Ive noticed when I'm on my boomkin, when I was questing, I always felt like I lost time dpsing because of how long I was in the air using a jump to cancel a spell, instead of just side-stepping/moving quickly.
If you are positioned correctly, it 'could' take a few button presses to move in/out of the zone quick enough. Where as a jump, yea if you are positioned correctly and jumping does remove the debuff, I think you would be hanging in the air longer than it would take to just move real quick. Plus when you land you have to hope the game registers you on the ground right when you land to start casts.
Like I said, I think for hunters it sounds good because you can do most of your insta abilities while jumping in the air(I think). But I think casters would lose potential DPS time. Its something we could try though.
Range always stay on the boss, and melee/tank handles the adds
we should be aiming for only 2 adds in phase 1.
Kaluu was looking at world of logs at raids who were just beating enrage and were 200-300k dps short. Yes the trinkets will help, but we REALLY need to pump out more at other oppertunities, the transition phase we got down pretty well but needs to go faster.
Aeolyn got the right idea too, figure out what can help your weak points as per dps on the fight and see what you can do. I'm available if you need to re-enchant your gear if needed.
I'll be focused on getting more spirit, finding ways to keep my mana up for a longer period. However, we we're too far off at enrage as far as mana is concerned. but I can still be better.
Those adds dont have a lot of health, with either of us tanks and craeg on it,, it should go down pretty quick. hell.. when just 1 or 2 of the ranged are on it like they were, the thing drops like a rock. I think the best way for uptime on the boss with regards to craeg, is to tank the add on top of the boss so craeg and the other tank can get splash damage... the issue I see with it, is where do we get time to drop our stacks... I'll think on it and try to come up with an idea, or see if I can find a group who has done it like that.
Were averaging 3-4 adds during the first phase. Sometimes we only get the 3, but if we do, we are RIGHT on the cusp of getting that 4th spawn. So yea, more uptime on boss. On our "best" attempt based on where we were in regards to enrage timer etc. We got him to 50% when we still had 3 mins left until enrage. Not good enough, based on where we are, gear-wise etc, we need to have him at 50% NLT 3:45 to enrage.
The pillar change helped a lot, and while the adds still hurt, they were a LOT more managable. For those adds we may still want ranged to help finish those off when we restart P1.
Thank you Aeolyn for going into a more burst route. As long as you can sustain high dmg throughout, everyone should look into a good burst rotation, or possible slight spec change. We REALLY have to have minimum 4 waves of the sparks down each time w/o having to use heroism. YES I know, we have to use hero to get to P3 to experience it, yadda yadda yadda, so we can see the "metric ass tons" of damage that goes out during that phase. Thats not the point I'm trying to get across. And I fully understand trying to get to see all the phases. But it seems like people are counting on the heroism just to help with the spark waves... NO, we CANT be in that mindset, its a waste of our time. If we blow heroism etc to help with sparks, it MAYhelp get more stacks on the boss (if someone doesnt fuck up *cough Foresight cough*), but when we actually hit phase 3, we wont have heroism to help with those extra stacks for it to matter. If people are understanding what I'm saying.
I'm essentially pointing out the same thing I did for Gara'jal. While we may NOT be able to get it down currently, even after trinkets on Monday, we should be striving to do it the correct way, not a way that is going to just cause us to wipe over and over because we can't make enrage because of HOW we are trying it. Just like we were wasting time on Gara'jal with 3 healers, I feel we are wasting our time blowing heroism early on Elegon just to see a phase. I'll sum up the last phase, when you step out to drop your stacks, youll take extra damage from the new whirlwind on the outside, so make your stack dropping transition really quick. No adds will spawn, its a full burn to the finish. End summary. We should focus on doing it the way we need to, not in order to see a new phase when there is no chance to beat enrage. Do it phase by phase, the correct way, without having to use abilities we WILL need later on. Then once we have those phases down to a science and can handle them as required, we will see the last phase regardless, and when we get there, we will have a more realistic chance of downing it, instead of just seeing it for 15-20 seconds and wiping.
Did a little more digging last night and this morning, and I didn't even think of this. But that Celestial Protector add that we have to OT and kill does benefit from that buff in the middle (something that the fatboss vid doesnt mention). So tanking him on the boss and letting him just explode there is not a good idea. Just extra damage for the raid and healers to have to deal with.
So we can try doing it with craeg, but it looks like they actually have 4+ mil health, so just a tank and craeg might still take a while to take them down. We'll just have to see how it goes. If it doesnt go well, just have to switch to the idea of as soon as its in range, all dps just nuke the shit out of it. 5 DPS (w/o Craeg) should be able to bring it down retarded fast so by the time it gets to the edge, its alread ready to explode and hopefully tanks can pull it outside before it does.
Just have to see what works best for us.
Also, for the sparks, initially when they first spawn, you can get a quick aoe on them to spread diseases, bleeds, dots etc to them, so thats advisable when they first spawn. It should help with everyones dmg to them.
I made an entirely new spec to do Elegon with next raid. I'm going Surv and made completely different talent choices to ensure better burst damage on the orbs and less trouble with my pet running around like crazy and losing uptime on things.
Absolutely killed me tonight to have an orb escape me by a global.
