Looks like you read the same

Mehguy — Thu, 11/22/2012 - 09:55

Looks like you read the same post that I did Aeolyn.

Being tired and late last night, I mis-read the post and thought it was saying to chase the tornados and it didnt make sense to ride in them because that would just be extra damage from being inside of them.  But yes, the air stream on the sides do not deal extra damage, so that would be a preferable way to get down there.  I was trying to make a suggestion of this last night (obviously it was slightly off because I thought chasing tornados was the way to go) but nobody seemed receptive of it and there was only "no, we need to get everyone healed up and master tornados".  Obviously some people cant as multiple attempts last night showed.  This would be preferable so if timed right there should be NO dodging of tornados on the 2nd half at all, its just a quick ride down there.  Quick because you'll be running with the extra wind and youll run faster than the tornados are going.  PLUS... I'm not sure, perhaps Elapsed or someone can test it in LFR, when you are in the slipstream, I THINK you can still heal (not just HoT), but I'm not sure on that.

One thing to note.. people who are constantly getting hit might need to think about moving their camera around if at all possible to see tornados better that are coming.  I think a problem is that they may only see 1 or 2 tornados ahead and not plan their run-route better.  And while I think the speed boost is great for some who can run the tornados well, for those that get hit I notice some of the 'extreme' speed boosts just cause them to run into tornados more often because they cant control their chars at the higher movement speeds. People while dodging tornados should strive to plan ahead on that as much as possible, try to see 3 or more tornados in front of you.  If you are just trying to dodge one at a time before knowing where the next one is going to be, you are wrong.  You should know immediately which way you are going for the next 2 tornados once you dodge the first one.

This could also help with healers getting hit.  And yes, I know you're guys' job is tough having to heal on the run. I NEVER said it wasn't, but DAMN, not getting to the FIRST boss platform until he is already flying to the other side is unacceptable.  If you get caught at the very end when one spawns, ensure you are checking the floor for the red ring.  It will still be there indicating which spot it will spawn in, just dodge it like normal as if it was already spawned.  Running through it will not work 80+% of the time. If you plan your route a little better where there is perhaps a 2-3 tornado gap before you have to dodge, that could give you time to get a heal or 2 off, vice trying to get a cast off when there is one right in your face.  Also don't try to OVER correct yourself when you avoid a tornado, you just need to let it pass.  Unless you are planning to run all the way to the other side of the gauntlet area because that has a large gap, don't over run your dodging.  You're going to lose more forward progression by strafing too far left and right when it may be unnecessary.

If you need practice at dodging tornados, go to Firelands and get Alysrazor to his tornado phase and try running towards the tornadoes instead of chasing them. OR, play LFR over and over and over.  Healers and DPS get instant, if not close-to, instant ques and the mechanic doesnt change.

My proposal should be that people that are having issues with tornados, RUN LFR and practice it.  Then when the boss hits 11%, ALL players besides Lumi and myself get in the damn stream and run to the other side. With the stream going in the same direction you will be there in no time and by the time we get him to 10% you should have already been down there a while and had a chance to heal.  Lumi and I will be fine running back.

BLTBLT

On this image, this would be the preferred route to run.  At the first "dodge" you should already be close to doding the tornado directly in front of you and there is a extra tornado gap back in your original lane, so you should just sidestep back to where you were.  This gives less strafing time and more forward progression.  If you had cut all the way accross you would forward momentum strafing all the way across JUST to have to immediately dodge again.  On the next dodge to the opposide side, you would want to make that long strafe because you would have 3 'waves' of no tornados to dodge which = good forward movement.  If you just keep strafing left/right through that whole mess, youll lose a lot of time moving forward and put yourself more at risk for getting hit.  And don't say there is a "set" pattern of "they spawn left-middle-right-middle-left-middle-right-middle" etc etc.  They do not.  It may appear like that since they very rarely spawn one after another in the same spot.  But there is no 'set' pattern.

Just ensure you do not run into the stream to try to dodge because it will push you backwards.  Only jump into the stream at 11% and run WITH the stream to get to the opposite side.

Also, people should be using healing potions IMO.  Except the healers
who need their focus potion.  Initially the dmg should only be around
14-15k a tick.  Having a free 60k heal for the first run through the
gauntlet could save the healers time, and your life, by giving yourself
yet another free heal, which is one of the current issues.  DPS is fine
as long as we LIVE!

Dodge better until first platform, make life easier by not getting hit. Everyone minus tanks jump into stream at 11% down to the other side and WIN!

Blade Lord Dudeman discussion

Aeolyn — Thu, 11/22/2012 - 01:58

So I feel pretty good about dodging the tornados -- but the persistent damage is a bitch. I think brainstorming how to cut it down on an individual basis might potentially help some.

For example, I noticed that my Aspect of the Iron Hawk is only reducing the damage taken by, like, 1.5k a tic. Shadowform should be in the same boat.

It just occured to me that I'd be much better served dropping Iron Hawk in favor of Spirit Bond; which (after raid buffs) should give me over 4k health per second. Much, much better for my own survival.

Also, I'm curious as to what happens if you step outside of the tornado area. Or if that is even possible.

Edit: Seems the wind carries you the opposite direction. Obvious solution to me would be to get him to about 11% health, DoT him up, and then ride the wind to the other side so that we're already at his destination when he changes directions at 10%.
