Hunters Vs. Horridon
Aeolyn — Wed, 04/17/2013 - 10:07I want to see the following from the Hunters tonight:
1) At least one Tallstrider pet in the raid for ease of applying armor debuff quickly to many targets.
2) At least one Wind Serpent or Dragonhawk pet for the automatic magic damage debuff.
Random spiders and shit are not helping. Spirit beasts throwing a tiny heal on you on occasion is not helping. Your pets can use abilities that make raid damage go up --- DO IT.
Tallstriders, Wind Serpents, Dragonhawks. Make it happen.
Growl and Cower on all pets OFF. All pets in Ferocity mode.
Hunter secondary stat priority for Survival on a fight like this is Critical > Mastery > Haste.
A lot of Hunters are starting to go Critical > Haste > Mastery. DO NOT DO THIS ON HORRIDON (as Surv) IN RAID MAN HUG. This is a reforge path for single target combat; which is not what our issue with Horridon is.
"But Aeolyn! I have RPPM trinkets and 2 piece and Haste makes them proc more!"
No. Mastery will always be the stronger stat in the context of AoE combat for Survival. It isn't even close.
If you really don't want to play Survival I won't force you; but know where your strengths are and know when to take advantage of them. Which mobs are worth using burst cooldowns and which ones aren't?
We don't need 80 million traps for the two mobs that come out the gate. They're never that threatening and they die in six seconds. Spread traps around. Put them in the raid. Put them behind the raid. It's way more important that traps inhibit mobs that are actually threatening to our DPS and healers. The mobs dropping down from the sides and stuff? Those guys are what is endangering our players. Not the basillisk and random scrub mob that walks out into 25 angry raiders and right into a tank. Good trap use also gives me more time to grab up mobs before they start attacking a healer. I only have 2 taunt buttons and there's like a million mobs. I need help.
SPEAKING OF WHICH.
Every Hunter should have a macro that casts Misdirection on Lancea and should be using it liberally. This isn't just for me; its for the whole raid. If mobs get clumped up on me nicely then our overall AoE damage goes up and everyone is safer for it.
Do you ever target me when casting Misdirection? You shouldn't have to -- that's a DPS loss. Consider making me your Focus Target and using something like:
/cast [target=focus] Misdirection
There; now you can keep pew pewing to your heart's content without ever having to take your targeting off the thing you're shooting at. Have an MD macro you like better? Excellent, use it. Just don't lose valuable time that you could be using attack globals -- your macro can take care of that stuff for you.
Consider what your talents are actually doing for you.
Is Dire Beast getting you much focus or is it spending too much time running around between targets? Consider Thrill of the Hunt so you can pump out more Multi-shots more quickly. Use Glaive Toss (its focus cost is dirt cheap) to fish for Thrill of the Hunt procs.
Using Murder of Crows? You probably shouldn't be. Nothing should live long enough to warrant it. Use Blink Strike to get your pet on your target quicker. Or use Lynx Rush for the free damage on things like Dinomancers that really need to be brought down quickly.
Bunch of mobs clumped together while we're moving between doors? Consider Barrage. Think about where we're weak and what you can do to improve the situation.
(and before anyone looks up Aeo on the armory and points out that I'm not following my own SV reforge advice; understand that different raids need different things out of their Hunters. Our class has a ton of flexibility and we need to use it)
we have a raptor and wind
Grasen — Thu, 04/18/2013 - 09:36we have a raptor and wind serpent at evey raid that i attend. i bring wind and dren or caylee brings raptor. i double check this at the begining of each raid.
I disagree on opening traps. no need for a freezing or snake but the explosive throws my proc when i find that we kill stuff to fast for BA to proc. I then have my explosive proc to start on the first big add that jumps down.
I use grid for my md;s
i prefer ferver myself to dire beast or thrill. i use lynx rush all the time. not a fan of murder of crows. Glaive toss and barrage are on the same tree level. Personally i use glaive toss.
as for mastery, i'll give this reforge a try on monday
Diyana had a tallstrider
Aeolyn — Thu, 04/18/2013 - 10:22Diyana had a tallstrider yesterday too. Pets were fine.
I'd hope that our Hunters would know the difference between making their stuff proc and needlessly littering a single patch of floor with over a dozen traps. I was very particular with my wording.
I'm not calling the Hunters out or implying that anyone is bad. I just want to see things happen a bit more smoothly -- especially now that it looks like Horridon is realistically doable. Now we're in the realm of trying to squeeze out more damage to ensure a kill. This is the point of evaluating what we're doing with our globals and such.
Fervor is a great talent for people who know how to use it. You don't have to defend your choice to me; I trust you. I think Thrill and Fervor are both totally passable options for this fight -- with Dire Beast being the only questionable one.
I know Barrage and Glaive Toss compete for a slot on the bar; I brought Barrage up because we had huge issues with dragging tons of mobs with us from door to door. That's no longer the case (last night we were on point with killing things for the most part) so Barrage lost a lot of its validity there. That's an excellent thing. Glaive Toss is going to be the best option for what we're dealing with now. Especially for people running Thrill of the Hunt.
I don't know when 5.3 will hit but when it does; Hunter damage is going to go up noticably. And pretty much every Hunter in the raid will want to be rocking Blink Strikes. It's going to be stupidly OP for fights like Horridon.
Man Hug -will- absolutely kill Horridon. We just need more damage. We need to keep doing what we're doing, finding small improvements to make. We need to keep getting upgrades where we can find them (*cough* world bosses). Everyone is responsible, not just the Hunters.
Another MD Macro
Dragon — Wed, 04/17/2013 - 17:16If you don't want a focus target the entire fight that's your tank you can also make a macro as follows
/cast [@Lancea] Misdirection
I meant to post this

We all want Horridon DEAD!
Leighann — Tue, 04/16/2013 - 19:36So can we all take a moment to look at our gear, is it propperly gemmed, enchanted and reforged? Am I under hit cap and meet exxpertise caps, do I have the best enchants I can possibly have, have I ran heroics to get valor gear for the gear that hasn't dropped in LFR? I know gear changes all the time, I regem and reforge at least twice a week!! But Horridon gear level is approximately 500, and I know that not all of Man Hug is at this. So we have GOT to make some changes! Please people look at your gear, ask MrRobot for suggestions!!! Do you need Gems? Several guild members have all the cuts, myself included. Do you need spell thread for healing/caster dps? I have two tailors maxxed with the recipe. Glyphs? Yes my mage has them all. I don't have the agi or stam leg enchants but I know several LW's that do. Atar and Treelapsed have both said they can help out with enchants, so take advantage of your resources people!!! These bosses are not going to play dead and pass out their loot, we have to work for it. The guild allows raiders for repairs, the least we can do is COME prepared. Flasks included, feasts are also provided which does give 275 increase, but there are others who bring their own 300 food. Never fear we do have plenty of feasts! Back to guild repairs, yes they are provided to raiders and it's not that Guild/Raid leaders are "better than that" to not use guild repairs but it's something provided for us, so let's show Atar, Elapsed and the other raid leaders that we appreciate then and fix our shit!

Also if anyone needs help
FireWire — Wed, 04/17/2013 - 02:27Also if anyone needs help with their specific class and/or gearing via tailoring, I am always able to help out. I have around 30 or so imperial silks sitting there for guildy useage and am willing to craft anything I have for free.
As for class help, for the most part I can help fine tune your rotation and/or help out with upping your dps/hps
I'm also a JC and always
Diyana — Tue, 04/16/2013 - 20:57Fellow raiders, I'm also a JC and always willing to cut gems for guildies so please don't hesitate to ask if I have the pattern you need. If you don't have the raw gem chances are I do, so just ask. I don't bite, just my pets bite. :-)

Ghostess — Tue, 04/16/2013 - 14:34Sounds great. I'm willing to try anything to down that big bastard!
Thanks to Kaluu there's a new
Atar — Tue, 04/16/2013 - 09:07Thanks to Kaluu there's a new strat I'd like to try on Horridon.
Basically it's really simple. We'll be tanking Horridon away from the raid the entire fight. Therefore if we're at door 1 Horridon will be at door 3, door 2 boss is at door 4, etc. The boss stays 100yrds away so we don't have to deal with charges and him being in the way.
One tank and two paladins will be flying solo until door four is down. That way they can bop and keep the tank alive while the rest of the raid deals with adds.
As for the rest of the raid. We'll still be on adds and controling them as they come. The biggest change will be killing Dinomancers ASAP. As soon as they drop they need to be dpsed down. They need to die within 10 to 15 sec. They become the priority over anything else. Killing it and channeling the orb is the most important. Then we clear up adds and continue to the next door.
I can explain more in detail in raid on Wednesday. This might could be a very good option for us. I'd love to give this a shot.
sounds like a good plan
Grasen — Tue, 04/16/2013 - 18:39sounds like a good plan kaluu. thanks man!
