keeping with the Tankadin Vol X minus V

Fjork's picture

Fjork — Fri, 06/06/2008 - 11:01

Alright, in case you forgot, here’s where we left off last time:

Head:              [Helm of Natural Purity] Quest: Stealing Back the Mushrooms

Neck:              [Pendant of Battle-Lust] BF: The Maker (There are quest Neckpieces that easily replace this)

Shoulder:         [Truth Bearer Shoulderguards] UB: Swamplord Musel’ek

Back:              [Bogstrok Scale Cloak] UB: Rokmar the Crackler

Chest:              [Unscarred Breastplate] UB: QuagmirranOR

Chest:              [Light-Touched Breastplate] Ramps: Watchkeeper Gargolmar

Wrist:              [Azureplate Greaves] UB: Quagmirran (There are quest Wrists that easily replace this)

Hands: [Ironblade Gauntlets] BF: The Maker

Waist:              [Studded Girdle of Virtue] UB: Ghaz’an

Legs:               [item]Flintlocke's Piloting Pants[/item] Quest: In Case of Emergency

Feet:                [Golden Cenarion Greaves] Quest: Natural Remedies

Ring:                [Mok'Nathal Clan Ring] Ramps: Chest

Ring:                [Witching Band] Ramps: Chest (OR a random quest-ring)

Trinket #1:       [Charm of Alacrity] Quest: Voidwalkers Gone Wild (Instances-Change while on Cool-Down)

Trinket #1:       [Runed Fungalcap] SP: Rokmar the Cracker (Instances-Change while on Cool-Down)

Trinket #1:       [Glowing Crystal Insignia] Quest: Overlord Gorefirst (Soloing/AOE Threat gen in instances)

Trinket #2:       [Regal Protectorate] Quest: Overlord (Keep equipped)

Libram:            [Libram of Wracking] Quest: Colossal Menace

OR

Libram:            [Libram of Saints Departed] BF: The Maker (Seriously, don’t waste too much time on this.  If you have both, switch out as needed.)

Shield: [Shield of the Wayward Footman] World Drop

Shield: [Petrified Lichen Guard] Sporeggar – Honored

Weapon:         [Spellfire Longsword] SP: Mennu the Betrayer (And yes, Warlocks and Mages will most likely yell at you.)

And we know that the only things we’re really worried about keeping are these:

[Libram of Saints Departed] Librams are few and hard to come by.  If you get one, keep it.  You don’t know when you might need it again.

[Libram of Wracking] If you haven’t finished the quest yet, go pick it up.[Regal Protectorate] – 1.76% towards Uncrushable at 70.  Also a good way to be a tank pre-70

[Petrified Lichen Guard] – AOE grinding.  Use this frequently.  Get a better shield though.

[Glowing Crystal Insignia] – AOE grinding.  Use this frequently.

[Shield of the Wayward Footman] – Raid Tanking.  You’ll only use this for instances through about 68.

[Golden Cenarion Greaves] – This are actually semi-useful for starting you 5mans if the rest of your gear is good enough.  Hold on to them just in case.

So, we’re somewhere between 64 and 66.  Where do we go?  Well, Terrokar Forest has some really great quests (do the ones for Cenarion rep), but it is usually gank-city.  So instead…….

MANA TOMBS!!!!  w00t!  Something to keep in mind if you go right at 64, the boss requires a GREAT amount of DPS.  Be picky, seriously.

Pandemonius:

Hands:              [Faith Bearer's Gauntlets] – So-so, but can’t beat the Armor buff-up.

Shield:              [Shield of the Void] – If you don’t have your Wayward Footman yet, get this. Nexus-Prince Shaffar

Wrists:              [Nexus-Bracers of Vigor] – So-so again, but can’t beat the Armor buff-up.

And DONE!   lol But you should still be around 65ish.  Keep grinding Mana-Tombs until you do.  You should be focusing on making sure you get as many Spirit Shards as you can.

Off to Auchenai Crypts – Remember, you’re a VERY viable tank now, even under-leveled, you are well geared.  Don’t get excited and break out your ‘Seal of Righteousness’.  Most of these pulls require timing, and precision.  Keep up the Consecration.  Assign one of your DPS to focus on ensuring that your Healer gets no aggro.  Mobs like to ‘appear’ and aggro on them.

Shirrak the Dead Watcher

Weapon:          [Shaarde the Lesser] – w00t!  Cheap, fast, and free!

Helm:               [Hope Bearer Helm] – Good step-up on the armor and will help out on Exarch Maladaar.  Hopefully you get it first run.  Hehe

Now, we 65, tank-geared and ready to do…… solo’ing.  Seriously, you’ll be doing it till you can manage to get someone to take you through Old Hillsbrad at 66. Here’s at list of quest items I’d recommend collecting:

Helm:               [Cover of Righteous Fury] Quest: Levixus the Soul Caller            (Get a group and complete this chain at 65. Want this immediately when it is available.)

Neck:

Shoulders:

Back:

Chest:               [Breastplate of the Warbringer] Quest: Forge Camp: Annihilated            (Get your group back as soon as you hit 66 and complete this quest chain.  This should be what you are working on until you can get into your first Old Hillsbrad run.)

Wrist:               [Junior Technician 3rd Grade Bracers] Quest: Your Hired!

Hands:

Waist:

Legs:

Feet:

Provided you gather all of this, you’ll be better geared than most ‘tankadins’ the day they hit 70.  Time for….  OLD HILLSBRAD!

This is the turning point for you as a Tankadin.  Your first run, possibly first two runs will be hard.  They will be a test of your ability as a Tankadin.  Once you get your gear though…..  It is all smooth sailing from there.   Here is what we’re looking for:

Shoulder:          [Warchief's Mantle] – This is the quest reward for Old Hillsbrad.  Just finish the instance.

Lieutenant Drake:

Feet:                 [Uther's Ceremonial Warboots] – Keep these.  Might need them even for raiding.

Ring:                 [Iron Band of the Unbreakable] – Get this too.  Good replacement for whatever you have.  I personally kept the Witching band.

Go quest.  Once you get 67, make sure you do the Cenarion quests in Blade’s Edge Mountains.  Need to gather a small bit of healing gear while questing, so you can use them when needed in certain instances.  If you KNOW your not going to heal, SKIP NAGRAND.  PVP HEADQUARTERS!   I would like to note here that a lot of these items are viable level 70 gear that is acquirable at level 66.  However, that means you’ll either need patience and expensive repair bills, or friends in high places to even consider a few of them.

Here’s a list of things to pickup:

[Nagrand Cherry] – Quest: A Rare Bean – Just useful to have.

[Oshu'gun Relic] – Quest: Gava’xi – Healing gear. [Blessed Book of Nagrand] – Quest: The Ultimate Bloodsport – Healing gear.

[Mogor's Anointing Club] – Quest: The Ring of Blood: The Final Challenge – Healing gear.

[Natasha's Battle Chain] – Quest: The Hound-Master – Get this, you’ll be wearing it till you pickup your Cenarion Rep-Reward.

[Whistling Sword] – Quest: Gorgrom the Dragon-Eater – Get this as a fallback weapon when your quickly going OOM from bad dps/healer.  Its decently fast and will help your BoM proc enough to keep your Holy Shield up.  Otherwise, keep your Spellfire equipped.

[Flesh Beast's Metal Greaves] – Quest: Someone Else’s Hard Work Pays Off (GET THEM) [Nexus-Guard's Pauldrons] Quest: Success!

Alright!  Your officially 68!  Time for BLACK MORASS!!!!!!!!  Beg, Plead, Cry, $%&^% yourself out.  Whatever it takes to get through this instance at least once, do it.  This instance was MADE for Tankadin’s.  Just stand in front of the portal, consc, and focus on the elite.

Here’s a list of what we want from Black Morass:

[Andormu's Tear] – Quest reward for just going through the instance once.

Chrono Lord Deja:

[Burnoose of Shifting Ages] – Try and get this, because the next step isn’t available until Steamvaults.

Aeonus:

[Legplates of the Righteous] – Not a bad idea to grab these now, though you won’t be able to use them till 70.  They are useful for Heroics when the rest of your gear allows for the extra spellpower.

[Scarab of the Infinite Cycle] – If this actually drops.  I HIGHLY doubt you’ll get it.  I mean, seriously.

DON'T LET THEM LEAVE!!!! Go get your [Dabiri's Enigma] from Quest: Dimensius the All-Devouring.

Here are some other items of interest:

Ring:                 [Protector's Mark of the Redemption] Quest: Dissension Among the Ranks.  (Replace the Iron Band of the Unbreakable)

Shield:              [Netherwing Defender's Shield]

Wrists:              [Thadell's Bracers]

However, as soon as the initial Black Morass run is completed, I’d like you to see…….

YOU:  http://www.warcrafter.net/sandbox/70595

Guess what?  With 8,300 Health, and 463 defense, your ready for the level 70 5mans.  Most level 70 5mans are run by Tankadins around 430-450 from what I have seen, by following this progession guide you are already beyond that without your level 70 gear.  See Vol two for what equipment I’d recommend you collect.  (Might be 69 or even 70 with rested experience, to much grinding, etc, but you get the idea)

Head:                  [Cover of Righteous Fury]

Neck:                  [Natasha's Battle Chain]

Shoulder:             [Nexus-Guard's Pauldrons]

Chest:                 [Breastplate of the Warbringer]

Wrist:                  [Junior Technician 3rd Grade Bracers]

Hands:                 [Ironblade Gauntlets]

Waist:                  [Studded Girdle of Virtue]

Legs:                    [Flintlocke's Piloting Pants]

Feet:                    [Flesh Beast's Metal Greaves]

Ring #1:                [Andormu's Tear]

Ring #2:                [Iron Band of the Unbreakable]

Trinket #1:            [Regal Protectorate]

Trinket #2:            [Dabiri's Enigma]

Libram:                 [Libram of Wracking]

Shield:                  [Shield of the Wayward Footman]

Weapon:               [Spellfire Longsword]
