Raid Experience:

I have raiding every instance since MC, BWL, NAXX Old schoo. Did all the raiding in BC and what not. Went through the new Naxx so many time my eyes bleed. Went into Uldar with a guild not ready for the challenge, Serenity. They made it up to I believe 2nd to last boss and called it quits and stopped raiding all together. That caused me to take a little break, but now I want to get back into a GOOD raiding guild who gets things done.

better gear for sure...but i hope you realize that its not just a "good gear ok ginvite time" situation. You've gotta go through a trial run or two or ten. And right now, at least in KB (one of the 25 man raids), we seem to be short on invites for DPS apps. And I think Salmon (another of the 25 man raids) runs with 4 mages as it is.

Trazie (another mage) has been apping and filling in for a good 3-4 weeks now, just to give you some perspective

Totally understand, I would say gear is 3 or 4 on the list. First to me would have to be personality and fit with the guild, if you dont like the people you play with why the hell would you log on and spend 4 hours with a bunch of d bags. Second would be knowing the class, i just spam ice lance right? Then gear fits in just so your not dragging the guild down in fights. I would love to get in on some runs with you guys, get to know some of you better and see how things feel out. I like the fact that half of you are from Oregon so I can yell out my window if you piss me off:)

Cons:

Even I have better gear than this guy in some slots, and I hardly ever set foot in a 25 man. Please look at my armory to get an idea of what upgrades you can get yourself. You have some work to do!
STOCK UI MAKES ME WANT TO CRY. To elaborate, I have a hard time believing any mage can truly do their REAL job, which is NOT to just dps, but to Ice Block/Decurse/Rebuff/Polymorph/Spellsteal etc etc in a clutch situation at a moments notice.

Rare gems in some slots (although I don't completely blame you, I don't want to put epics in my T7 either)
Not using the best shoulder enchant (Hodir rep is needed....saw you have a Wyrmrest Tabard on. Prioritize!)

To answer Scaron's question about Spell Power/Crit gems: the answer is it depends on your spec and the fight. The old conversion use to be (approximately) 1 spell power = 1 haste, and 1 crit = .5 spell power. In other words, when I was looking at items, to figure out total spell power I'd divide the number of crit in half. That is not the case any more. It is closer to a 1:1:1 ratio across the board. In a mana intensive long fight, crit will help you more than haste if you are choosing between the two. Ideally, a mage would have multiple specs that support both long and short fights, but that usually isn't the case since often times the off spec is dedicated to some sort of utility, like having Improved Blizzard. The next best way to distinguish from different fight mechanics is to swap out haste for crit. If you are comfortable with your mana pool then stack haste; if you're not, beef up on crit so your spells will hit harder more often even if you're not casting as many over time.

Yes, best chest enchant is +10 stats. I personally prefer Icewalker on boots, but some say the movement speed bonus of Tuskarr's outweighs this if you move something in the realm of 5 seconds per minute during a fight. I haven't seen the math behind it, but I'm lazy and skeptical that this is completely true. It's pretty hard to argue with straight up hit and crit. Besides, in lower level gear you really need to find a way to get to hit cap.

As for hit rating, the primary spec he has is FFB, which has a native 3% passive spell hit from the Precision talent. Please refer HERE to view the handy guide I put on this subject. Remember that the hit cap you need always depends on both your spec and your raid composition, among other factors.

I'm sorry to derail your post there Karli but my 2 cents on the whole Tuskarr's vs Icewalker.

If you had a choice between always moving faster, being able to get to targets quicker, getting out of fires faster, and that sort of thing, or critting/hitting more often... you would honestly pick the latter? Even if it's such a small amount?

As a moonkin, icewalkers is a decent dps increase as long as I can use the hit. Often my hit flucuates and I need to gem/ungem it. But unlike hit, my movement speed remains constant. Wether or not I get out of that fire is based on my reaction time, direction choice, and my movement speed.

Let me run a scenario by you to help you understand the superiority that is Tuskarr's Vitality. Yes icewalker is more dps on a standard tank and spank fight, and yes you can get away without it, but the benefit is awesome.

This is a 8 minute fight, not too unreasonable for a hardmode 10 or 25 man boss fight. During this fight you spend no less then 1.5 minutes running around. You must move 10x in this fight, when achieving the 90 seconds of movement time, wether it is to dps another add or prevent yourself from dieing. That's 10 spells you may of finished if you had just another second, since you can't move ahead of time, it's completely random. That's 10x you may of just survived if you could of moved just a little bit faster. You'd save 7.8 seconds of moving, it may not seem like much, but it adds up.

Get Tuskarr's, you won't regret it. DO NOT get the speed meta, anyone getting the speed meta, spellcaster or melee alike, will be dragged out side and shot at dawn.

So I guess I'll add to Rupta's derailment. Run speed ftw, always my policy. But as for the other part, do not underestimate the 3% more crit damage meta. Even if your spec doesn't involve in as much crit as other specs, it still has attacks that crit. It's a meta that scales extremely well with gear nothing else comes close.

After looking at Karli's synapsis, I'll point out a few things. The things in your favor are the more important social things (such as: Doesn't seem like a duchebag). Things like this are mostly unalterable. As a social scientist I can, with confidence, attest to the time honored truisim: You can't turn an asshole into a nice person. You don't seem like an asshole and have a good attitude, so grats. Your life will be easier. The cons are things that you can actually change (gear / spec / gem / enchant / UI issues). That's good for you.

My one big question is this: Will these things ever change? That's up to you...I hope they will. Bottom line, it appears you need to do some class research and be able to theorycraft / make good gear / gem / enchant choices on the fly. Doing so will make you a better player...I know I'm better than when I started being a more consistent raider because of the class research I immerse myself in.

5. I'm no mage genius but is the sp and crit gem really the best choice for your belt?

Sorry I had some funky gear on last night. I have a raiding set. My shoulder Enchant is 18 spellpower/ 10 crit.

Most of my gems are of epic quality and if not they shall be upragded right away.

My chest has +8 to all stats. and a 19 spell power and a 39 spell power gem.
ALl my JC gems are on. I just had on some funky gear for looks/ pvp last night. You can meet me any time for inspection. I even welcome the wtf man get a new gem here comment. I take criticism well, and I welcome it.

Ok. Some other questions based on your armory profile.

1. Same as before, when do you plan on being able to upgrade your shoulder enchant?

2. Chest enchant is less than optimal, I can't say what's best for mages but if you're going +stats you'll be expected to raid in +10 rather than +8 (unless you can make the case that the older--and cheaper--haste enchant actually gives more dps).

3. I understand that you're upgrading gems and I have sympathy for that. I would imagine that people who are making decisions and inspecting your app will be looking for you to upgrade those quickly. A little heroic farming and you'll have upgrades soon.

4. I saw a +stam gem in there; what's your rationale? DF mages: is this standard?

5. Hit rating? Again, DF mages: is this standard to have 172 hit rating? Or, better yet, Krissy please explain why your hit rating is what it is.

I would think that your shoulder ench should be the Sons of Hodir +24 sp and crit enchant. You'll need to be exalted with them to get that enchant.

When I left Serenity I pulled George Aside and talked it out. George and I left on good terms. I didn't feel like the guild and I were a good fit for one reason or another. On some issues I didn't see eye to eye with George, but I never started any issues and If I needed to talk I would pull him aside and let him know if I had any frustrations. Serenity and I parted on Good terms and we agreed that we would both give good references if asked about one another. I was a contributing member to their DPS so George questioned my reasons for leaving, but I felt it was for the best that I moved on. He agreed and thanked me for talking it out with him.

Yep, lots of respect for Serenity and GP over here in Downfall. We try very hard not to "swipe" Serenity raiders. When Roronek came over to Downfall from Serenity a few months back, we worked closely with GP to ensure that guild bank mats that Roro had just used in Serenity were returned to Serenity before Roro came over.
