General Questions
Tell us a little of your history in WoW.:
Started in early 2006. I got into raiding during the Black Temple, Took a short break, came back for the start of WotLK. Had a top-tier guild (IIRC we were the server-first Razorscale kill in Ulduar), but due to our raid leader/main tank quitting in the middle of ICC we never managed to clear it, and the guild started to collapse. Not long after, I lost interest in the game, but my friend talked me into coming back near the end of Cataclysm, and again for a short time at the start of MoP. Due to my schedule, however, raiding was more or less out of the question for me at the time, so the game didn't hold my interest for long, because playing an MMO solo can be pretty boring.
How do you feel about the state of your class in the game?:
I've been out of the game for too long to have a solid opinion on this. In particular, this question tends to be relevant in contrast to other classes, and since I'm just now getting reacquainted with my own, I have no idea what's going on with the others and can't really make an informed comment.
What led you to our guild and what would you like to accomplish with us?:

My long-time friend Choochoobear called me up and told me he's been solicited to be a main tank for a raiding group, and they had plenty of slots and were looking for players. Given that I've finally got a schedule that allows for it, I'd like to give it another chance.

I'm definitely looking forward to hard modes (or whatever they're called these days). I want to push the limit of available content with like-minded individuals, but I also want to be realistic about that goal and move on to something else if no progress is getting made, and I was told I could expect that here.

Which days are you available for organized guild events? (Raids, RBGs, etc):
Tuesday
Wednesday
Thursday
UI
Upload UI:
Which addons do you consider essential and why?:
Since I just got back into the game, I'm not currently running any addons, but a long time ago I remember using DeadlyBossMods during raids. As a resto druid I also started using a HoT timer at one point. I played around with some utility mods too like Bagnon and Gatherer, but didn't consider them essential.
What do you like in particular about the UI you are currently using?:
Currently using the vanilla setup, as I'm fairly used to it, but I'm open to suggestions. in particular, I could use something to help de-clutter/organize my action bars.
PvE
Raid Experience:
First raid (other than a couple random pugs at the end of Vanilla) was Karazhan. I can't remember how far we got, but it was a small guild and we didn't really have enough to start pushing 25 man content. I later got into a raiding guild that was nearing the end of the Black Temple, and we managed to get up to Illidan but I never cleared him with them. After that I took a short break, skipping the tail end of TBC but I came back at the start of WotLK. Cleared Naxx 25 and most of Ulduar 25 before taking a short break, then came back before ICC launched. Killed all but Arthas, and I know we completed a handful of challenges/hard modes.
Describe Your Playstyle:
Back when I was still a raider, druids were generally assigned to raid heals, so it was mostly just a matter of spamming rejuvenation and wild growth, and using cooldowns if something big was happening. I'm not sure what all has changed, so I'll have to solicit some advice/do some research in terms of what role I should be filling and how to optimize it.
What specializations do you have experience with?:

I've tried tanking and balance, and would be open to using either if they were needed.

As for alts, i currently have none on the server but at various points in the past I've had a level-capped prot. paladin, ele shaman, and a warlock. I'm generally not fond of melee dps, but if it means getting to raid I'll do anything.

What are your most and least favorite boss encounters?:

In general, I like bosses that really shake things up mechanics-wise. In particular, vehicle fights like the first fight in Ulduar and the 5-man where you got to ride dragons require a different approach and thinking about the game. They require you to strategize and figure out how to optimize the new abilities, and that's something I enjoy doing.

I hate bosses that will wipe the entire group if a small mistake is made by one player. I like being given the opportunity to learn from my mistake, observe what went wrong, and try to fix it. It also tends to make the group turn their focus on the one who made the mistake, which can build resentment and is bad for morale, which can reduce performance all around. These sorts of fights are more tolerable when pushing for the hardest content, but in the past there have been some that were part of regular raids. I've been out of the loop long enough that I can't provide a specific example, however.

PvP
PvP Experience:
Very little. I greatly prefer PvE, but can get talked into battlegrounds from time to time. No experience in Arena.
Is PvP your primary focus?:
Definitely something I do in off-hours, and generally only when I'm in the mood or when I have something to gain from it that will affect my PvE experience. However, my past experience was with a strictly PvE-focused guild, so I may be more easily persuaded if there are more people looking to fill slots in PvP stuff. Wouldn't be able to commit to a schedule for it, though.
Personal
Is English your first language?:
Yes
What timezone are you in?:
US Central - Kansas
Tell us a little about yourself.:
I'm a 27 year old male. I've been gaming since the age of 3. I've known Choochoobear since the age of 12. I'm a parent of 4 year old twins. I have diabetes. I enjoy writing fiction in my free time, but I enjoy video games more so I rarely get around to it.

Hello and thanks for

Atar — Tue, 11/25/2014 - 11:26

Hello and thanks for applying!  We're always looking for exceptional players to fill our ranks and raids.

I'm a druid myself.  I really only play guardian and feral.  I have dabbed into balance here and there, but I'm clueless when it comes to resto.

The reason why I'm here to ask some specifics about what role you plan to be filling in raids.  How effective can you be?  What do you bring to the table?

If you were to tank what talents would you use?  What stats do you shoot for or are there any breakpoints you're looking to achieve?  Same thing goes for resto or any of the other specs.  Do you know what you should be gearing towards, etc.

If you ever have any questions about guardian or feral please let me know.  I'd be more than happy to help if I'm needed.

I look forward to talking to you and feel free to contact me anytime.

Honestly, since I've been out

Chronoblivion — Wed, 11/26/2014 - 03:51

Honestly, since I've been out of the raiding picture for so long, I'll fill whatever's necessary to get me back into it (even if that means rolling a new class). I was a healer for years, and was planning on going back to it, but I have fun with Balance too and would gladly do that if it was needed of me. As for what I bring to the table, I'm a fast learner so even though I'm a bit rusty, it shouldn't take long to get me up to speed. I'm also willing to do my homework; I know that a successful raid means knowing the fights, and learning them on my own time is much more efficient than wasting everyone else's by wiping a few times to learn the mechanics. Similarly, I was a raider long enough to know that part of successful raiding is adequate preparation - bringing the best food and potions for your role to optimize your performance, and in a sufficient quantity to last through the night. Also, I'm a very even-tempered person, and don't get easily frustrated or discouraged by frequent wipes.

I haven't spent any time looking at offspecs yet, so going off a quick glance at the guardian talents, I would pick: Wild Charge, Renewal, Typhoon, Incarnation, Mighty Bash, Dream of Cenarius, and Bristling Fur. I was a tank during the brief period of time that I played Mists, but I don't remember everything about it, so I'm sort of guessing on a couple of those. From what I do remember, I know defensive buttons and interrupts are your friend, so I focused on those, but if you want to know about my justification for a particular choice feel free to ask. I don't know if things are different now, but I know at one point, gear was all about stacking stamina. I'm sure it's not quite that simple anymore, so I'd gladly do research if necessary. Likewise, I haven't done research on resto end-game thresholds/stat optimization, because I've been focusing on getting my character caught up (got a little bit of a late start on the expansion and using a boosted character). But once I hit 100 and start to enter 5 mans I'll definitely set aside some time to check for optimum gear, stats, enchants, etc. I don't mind doing a bit of theorycrafting and number crunching on my own, but generally I know the information is available from someone with a lot more time on their hands, so I'll do some investigating soon.

Hey there, welcome to the app

Hey there, welcome to the app process! I know we'll be looking at a few apps for that raid in the coming weeks.

For UI suggestions, should you want to go all out I'd recommend ElvUI (it's a full UI for raid frames, player frames, nameplates, minimap, bars, etc) It runs very light and it takes care of so much customization for you. You can even have someone who already has it setup send you their config (in game it takes about 1 minute. They just taget you and hit the send button, it's pretty nuts)

If you'd rather just go your own route SuF was my old favorite Unit Frames, but a lot of people us Z-Perl as well
Bartender is still the mainstay of the bar management world
Prat was the last chat addon I used (pre ElvUI)
and Grid2 is one of the top, if not a little difficult to setup raid frames. (however the default blizz ones are just stupid great now as well)

On the side you'll want to grab DBM, Skada or Recount, and TomTom (for waypoints/coords)

I really like your answer to the boss encounter question. Not many people really like the vehicles. I recall Eye of Eternity being one of the worst instances for that because people never did the daily outside to learn the mechanics. Sadly there was a lot of "One person screws the whole raid" mechanics in the last xpac. I'm also in your boat hoping that people will be able to more learn from their mistakes, rather than be the target of the raids ire.

I look forward to hearing more from you, I have a tank druid coming along to hit up your app too. Again welcome to the app process!
