I have a question and need an answer!
everstar — Sat, 09/10/2011 - 18:39
okay so as many of you know, my graphics card took a mighty dump on my face. I opened up the tower to see what kind I have (since it WAS Resqtoaster's computer) a
NXT7600GT <-----thats the number on the front. It has its own fan attached to the graphics card.
So I need a new one and I am not good with figuring out whats the next best one for me. I went to Best Buy and the guy at the GeekSquad counter said yes, it is my graphics card and I could use a new one, but said no more since I was not gonna pay them 70 dollars to hold my computer for a few days and run tests...nooo thank you. When he said that it is my graphics card, I asked "I thought if you needed to replace the graphics card (pending on what type you get), that you would have to update like everything else inside the computer like the power supply and stuff. He said No, I do not. I was led astray ahhh!
So if anyone could give me some advice on where to get what for how much, that would be awesomeeeee. I am asking all of you since I have no computer savvy RL friends !!
P.S. This will not stop me from playing my games!
<3 ever

a pregunta for you tech savvy folks!
everstar — Fri, 11/11/2011 - 15:18OKay, so REsq and I came up with a computer build, ill toss a link to the wishlist so hopefully it shows
but my question is, does anyone see any problems or maybe even comparable, more inexpensive parts i can swap out? thanks!

Look for an EVGA motherboard.
Knoppix (not verified) — Sat, 11/12/2011 - 15:39Look for an EVGA motherboard.
update on ever!
everstar — Fri, 10/07/2011 - 19:02soooo i did get a new graphics card, plugged it in and turned it on and my screen just said the same thing
"Entering Power save mode"
i dont know exactly what the problem is, but after talking to Resq, the computer is verrryy old lol.
So yes, Netti. I will be getting a new computer! just not that one.. haha. Does anyone have any opinions on what brands i should be looking at for a desktop?
Since my family has that dell card, i was checking out their website. I have a lot of credit towards dell or alienware desktops. any thoughts? thanks guys =))
did you cleaned all the cpu?
Atakheal — Sat, 10/08/2011 - 14:59did you cleaned all the cpu? removing all the componets, cleaning all with compressed air and removing the battery from the motherboard, then wait like 15m and put the battery inside again, then install everything, and try. and lets see if this work. (find someone to do this, cuz take time)
btw, check all the connections to see if everything is fine with.

again, thank you so much guys
everstar — Mon, 09/19/2011 - 10:10again, thank you so much guys for all responding =) dunno where i would end up without you
I suggest a new computer...new egg probably carries this...
Netti — Tue, 10/04/2011 - 14:38I'll poke around and see what
Tankard — Tue, 09/20/2011 - 21:21I'll poke around and see what I can find for you, but I can tell you right now that most new cards won't fit in your tower.
This should do the
Tankard — Tue, 09/20/2011 - 21:33This should do the trick:
http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-Express-Graphics-01G-P3-N988-TR/dp/B0...
It's a GeForce 9800GT Nvidia card.
That card should run better
Disrupter — Wed, 09/21/2011 - 18:43That card should run better than the card you had as well as not have any power supply or space issues.
pics of the comp
everstar — Mon, 09/19/2011 - 10:09resqtoaster
everstar — Mon, 09/19/2011 - 10:00sorry guys, ive been so busy lately...i did take pics, ill upload them soon but heres the thing.
Resqtoaster built the computer and I have no idea how to check any of those things you just listed, Rupta lol. like the CPU and power supply and such. NO idea.
also, if its just the graphics card im replacing, id like to spend no more than 100 dollars on one
I would like RESQTOASTER to be on this thread too since hes the one who probably has the most info on it, but i think hes still moving in his new place and such
and thanks guys for responding!!! i really wanna get this thing back up and running
In my professional opinion I
Knoppix (not verified) — Mon, 09/19/2011 - 15:27In my professional opinion I would highly NOT recommend going with any video card lower than this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130572
Going much lower than this and you will end up with a fat pile of shit for a graphics card that you will likely NOT be happy with. $119 with a $10 mail-in rebate is a very good deal. Most of the ones lower in cost are very cheap and have very little graphical processing power and have very poor reviews. Some of the ones this cheap are also refurbished and most of the refurbished ones are not better than the one I linked anyways.
If you want to step down to an older model card from like 2 years ago you can get a cheaper card, but this is all up to you anyways. The older cards on NewEgg are hardly better or not better than that 7600 GT, so choose carefully.
The NewEgg specs do not tell me the power consumtion unless I am completly blind, but if you at least a 500 watt PSU (power supply), which I am sure you do, you will be fine.
Please provide the dimensions of your old card so I can tell if the card I linked will fit nicely.
Read the reviews on the cards and look around is all I can say, if you find one you like post it here and we can all give feedback.
We would need more
Disrupter — Sun, 09/18/2011 - 21:24We would need more information on what you currently have for a computer setup to make any real suggestions.
The cheapest option would be to replace the video card with the same video card, brand being unimportant but I am partial to EVGA, but the video card in question is quite out dated and is no longer mainstream.
The most important thing is to get it to run and to do so in the price range that is reasonable to you. So we'll want to know the wattage of your Power Supply, your Tower or Case, your CPU and your preferred price range.
It depends on how much you
Knoppix (not verified) — Mon, 09/12/2011 - 20:20It depends on how much you want to spend. The 7600GT is a PCI Express (likely 2.0 interface) slot so basically any new card will fit in that slot, the only difference is how big the bus is, it could be 8x or it could be 16x but that does not really matter it will work regardless, maybe just not to its full potential. The link below is a very reasonable graphics card:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130625
or if you want to spend more get:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130590
then you might need a bigger PSU:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139011
This first card only requires a 400 watt power supply which is not alot so if you have a 500-600 watt power supply you are good to go if not the link below is a very good PSU:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139010
If you have any more questions just ask me. I use that power supply in my lightweight server and its big brother in my gaming machine. The nice thing about those power supplies is that they are modular and save alot of space. You might want to look at upgrading your motherboard since it is likely rather old just like that 7600GT. But then you are better off getting a new CPU also if you are going that far, so yeah just my two cents.
P.S. If your case is cramped these cards are big, very big and may not fit, take a look at the dimensions of the card and measure your case and the existing card to see if it will fit.
Hey Ever, I suggest that you
Tankard — Mon, 09/12/2011 - 12:45Hey Ever,
I suggest that you take a detailed picture of your tower with the case open, along with the busted video card and post them here. That'll give me and others even more savvy the information necessary to help you out.
Vid card
Nuitarin — Sun, 09/11/2011 - 16:03Look at your motherboard and see what kind of slot your video card plugs in to. Common types are PCI, PCI Express 2.0, and PCI Express 2.1. Then go to newegg and order a new one that has the same interface.
Also keep in mind how much
shroom — Mon, 09/12/2011 - 05:51Also keep in mind how much room you have in your case. If the space is tight already you gotta be careful how big(physically) your card is. I ended up having to get a whole new case when i updated my graphics card, and not everyone is ok with that.
Also keep in mind you don't
cromi — Mon, 09/12/2011 - 10:40Also keep in mind you don't have to be a hero. If you can't seem to figure out the installation of your vid card remember it's okay to call one of these nerds (Obviously not me, like I care). But annoy them as much as possible, I'm sure they'd be more than willing to help.
why i have to be a nerd to
