The Fellowship of the RNG, Raid F-RNG

Mythic Raid Formation

Mission Statement

In the upcoming expansion, “Warlords of Draenor” (WoD), the most challenging raid difficulty will be named Mythic and require 20 players. In this vein Raid PMS would like to continue to attempt and kill end game bosses. However PMS is only 10 players... since Mythic requires 20, this opens our ranks up to 10+ more raiders (with some being alternates when a person needs a raid off for any given reason.) Given that the lesser difficulties (Normal and Heroic) will be separate lockouts from Mythic we expect alternate raiders raid with other raids and continue to get gear and stay current for when the Mythic raid needs them. After our experience with the 25 man raid Man Hug in MoP, this seems to be a common trend with large group raiding. We expect to rotate at least 1 fill-in weekly depending on the dedication of the raiders involved, and of course real life interferences. The goal currently is to start normal raid within 1 month of WoD launch and Mythic once we’ve done our first clear of Heroic (depending on what the raid deems this could be pushed back a week or two to garner more gear for the raid.)

Requirements for Raid Members

  1. Knowledge of your class and ability to play at least 2 specs at a high raid level (for hybrids this means different roles, for priests this means Healing AND DPS). Keep track of all patch notes and class changes ahead of time.

  2. Pick a class and stick with it! PMS ran into the problem of people having/wanting to change classes a lot in MoP and it mostly delayed progression. ‘Nerf bats’, and ‘buffs’ to classes will happen and you may end up being at the short end of the stick. Make the best out of the situation and be the best at your class. This rule can be changed on a case by case basis, depending on the needs of the raid, at the ruling of the officers.

  3. Read This! http://iam.yellingontheinternet.com/2014/01/29/raid-awareness-is-a-learned-and-practiced-skill/

  4. Properly gemmed and enchanted! with the best available at ALL times. No we don’t care if it’s an LFR item and you’re certain you’ll be replacing it next week!

  5. Tardiness! This should be as equal to you as a RL sports league you pay for. Raid starts PROMPTLY at 9pm PST. This does not mean that raid invites will start at 9 and we start pulling at 9:15, etc.  First pulls are expected to begin ON TIME.  If there’s any chance you’re going to miss it, you let someone know so you can have a fill in.

  6. Dedication! - This is a high priority item that goes with the above requirement.  We expect our raiders to miss no more than 2 raids a month (with notice).  Failure to maintain a high raid attendance will result in your demotion to a fill-in for the raid, and perhaps removal from the raid group altogether.

  7. DeadlyBossMods and WeakAuras. Every raider needs to know what's going on, and by being able to share the same timers and Auras it will eliminate possible lines of failure.  These two addons will be required for the raid.

  8. Know the strats for the fights! Read anything written regarding what we’re progressing on, and watch videos. Utilize sources like IcyVeins, MMO-Champion, and youtube channels like Vox, and Fatboss.

Get Ready Now!

Preparation for this raid cannot begin too early. The best thing players can do at this point is to accrue a decent amount of pocket gold. This will help in a variety of ways; enchants, consumables, BoE gear, etc. All of these will be scarce at the beginning of the expansion, when we'll need it the most, and they will all have a price. There are many different ways to add to your wallet. You could do dailies or sell some merch on AH, but an extremely easy and quick way to get some gold is by doing your weekly Palace of Lei Shen Scenario. This can be done on any of your 90 characters and can yield 400g-1000g for a 5 minute run. At this point in the expansion it should be easy to find a youtube video showing an optimized route to maximize chests. Even doing this on one character a week will add up tremendously by the time the expansion rolls around. Combine any of these methods and you could be making 10k+ a week depending on your dedication. While the guild can help out with a small portion of what may be needed to get people ready for mythic raiding, 3-4 people cannot nearly provide enough for a 20 man raid. Gold is and will always be a powerful ally when working towards your performance in raid.

Making a move

Barfolomeu — Sat, 06/07/2014 - 13:25

I really like the guild atmosphere here on Gorg, despite the fact that it's now a low population realm. Let's face it, most (all?) of us play WoW for the interaction with other real people, and I'm just not getting that on the high population realm, as our guild is mostly deserted outside of raid times. Even then it's been rough filling the ranks.

Also, I've been considering making Barfolomeu my main again, which works perfectly for raiding here on Gorg! I'm hoping that my previous participation in PMS with my proven track record of attendance and raid experience will factor into your consideration. If selected, I will not pursue a spot in my other guild on Frostmourne and dedicate myself full time to PMS.

Enixa — Sat, 06/07/2014 - 13:23

I'd like to add myself to this list in the same style as Deje. Currently the Nights and times ALL work for me, I'm in the process of finding a better job at the moment. That could change my circumstances.

I'm currently in the process of choosing what toon to roll, as I just got back to MoP. Classes I'm currently familiar with and able to play (in my eyes) at a high level of skill:

Druid: Feral DPs and Tank, Restoration

Shaman: All three specs are fair game.

DK: Blood Tank and Frost DPS

Paladin: Retribution, Protection

These are all classes I've played in some end game capacity and that I can easily connect with. No need to say hunter since I can see several signed up.

I'm confident playing all these classes and in reality my top 3 for WoD are in order: Druid, Shaman, Paladin.

With the expansion dying

Elapsed — Fri, 06/06/2014 - 15:51

With the expansion dying down, and with PMS's last night coming up I decided to bump this back to the front page of the site. Also wanted to get some solid updates in for you all.

Firstly regarding the Mythic raid, we'll be using EP/GP for the loot system. PMS the other night discussed it a bit and with the fill-in system we think it's only fair that people who make raid every night be rewarded. Actual point values are yet to be determined, but will undoubtedly be similar to Man Hug values.

Secondly My PERSONAL WoD launch plans are as follows

1) Hit 100 within 3 days
2) heroic dungeon farming asap after that, figure by day 5
3) a Normal difficulty raid at about 2 weeks after launch, Anyone will be invited and will be ran just like my Saturday flex was run.

I know WoD is still a ways away, but let's start getting psyched!

An added note, to clarify

Elapsed — Fri, 06/06/2014 - 16:59

An added note, to clarify things one step further, My personal plan, as outlined above, is only what I'm doing. I want you all to know that there will be some organization to all of this and a way to gear up for the first day of the raid, whenever that ends up taking place.

You can have an entirely different plan on leveling and gearing, no one has to do exactly what I'm planning to do.

Due to a variety of factors,

Hayae — Mon, 06/09/2014 - 10:11

Due to a variety of factors, from my career, to my psychological inhibitions, I acknowledge there's no real way I can be a regular for the Mythic; however, as always, I will always attempt to be avaliable when you most need me.

My primary concern is to be of use, raiding (even as a sub-in) with Downfall is essentially the only reason why I play WoW anymore. At my height, I could pretty much play any class, but have become restricted (or obsessed) with rogues recently. Depending on needs, I can however, become any class that is needed; researching is one of my talents.

I've been keeping track of the WoD changes, and can expect to level my rogue relatively quickly depending on what free time I have (thus depending on when WoD releases). Besides mooing, obsessive leveling has been the other trait people have associated with me in the past; although I've lost motivation recently (and time).

I would love to say that I

Kognus — Tue, 02/11/2014 - 21:38

I would love to say that I will be available for raid on a consistent basis, but WoD is too far in the future for me to know what my schedule will be like and my work schedule varies enough from week-to-week and month-to-month that I doubt I'll ever be able to commit to anything more serious than a fairly casual raid like Animal Crackers. It's a shame as I really like progression raiding and think that if I got in early and really focused it could be a ton of fun and I could be an asset to the team. I'm happy to be a very casual fill-in for heroics, but mythics are likely to require so much min-maxing that I'm not sure I'll ever have the gear necessary to be useful.
All the same I will be a cheerleader for you guys and I'm looking forward to playing with you all in other ways during WoD!

[EDIT]Also, 9pm-12pm PST is midnight to 3AM my time which basically precludes me from participating even if I do have enough free time to commit to it.

Where I am on a similar page

Jobs — Tue, 07/15/2014 - 19:02

Where I am on a similar page as Grasen in that I haven't had the opportunity to raid with the experience and professionalism? that PMS exudes, I think there is a better way to classify a difference in preference on the raid's schedule. Surely I can't raid at this raid's time and I would love to. Bitter? Maybe a little, but I will look to other means when that time comes. One thing I can realize through talks with Elapsed is that if raid times were changed to accompany Man Huggers or other good players in the guild, a good bunch of the ready-to-raid PMS crew would have conflict with an adjusted schedule.

I say let the night owls struggle with their roster on an east coast server and let them learn that their schedule is busted! :). Just kidding. I'm not getting my panties in a bunch at this time. I know we have the leadership and personnel in-guild to get another mystic off the ground and both raids will have great stories to tell.

I'm actually thankful for all

Elapsed — Tue, 07/15/2014 - 19:53

I'm actually thankful for all of this talk about Mystic (lol Ardea) It's brought some impressive communicator skills to bare. I don't think I've seen sucha thoughtful post, or heard something quite as eloquent from Mehguy.

The debate we had for all of 10 minutes was, do we sacrifice the few for the oppertunity at the many. Our decision came down to one of community. When I joined Downfall I had no idea the community I was getting into. PMS is it's own community and as a Downfall member, community is more important than bosses. When they announce Mythic as only a 20 man size I was heartbroken to think about having to change the dynamic PMS has. While Mehguy plots Ion Hazzokostis' demise(@watcher) over it, I decided to hit the ground running and figure out if a PMS was still possible. I think it is and I'm willing to put in the hard work to recruit as much as needed for my raid and others.

Jobs, you have an open invite to join us if your schedule changes, if not I'm certain that you will be the biggest assest to any other Mythic raid Downfall forms

THEN START YOUR OWN

Elapsed — Mon, 07/14/2014 - 11:40

THEN START YOUR OWN RAID!

This is our raid, it's what our raid times have been, they work for us and I'm only looking for people who they work for.

Honestly, I don't get why people insist on repeating this so often. There will be plenty of raiders to go around, plenty of good people who want to raid the "normal" times. It seems because I'm the only one to have posted about Mythic that this will be the only raid. Don't let it be!

To hopefully lower the animosity

Elapsed — Tue, 07/15/2014 - 13:00

I took a few steps back today and tried to look at the situation as a whole, and hopefully I'll be objective in this post (I'm sorry if I'm not fully.)

PMS as a 10 man has been raiding now for 2 full expansions (not counting any breaks of course at the end of them.) In that time no one complained really about our times, with exception of Mehguy during Daylight Savings. I think that was because being only the smallest possible raid allowed seemed to give a bigger pool of raiders to make another reliable raid (if not the upwards of 4 or 5 we've had in MoP.) As we break ground into going to 20 man it sounds/feels like we're making that pool smaller. While one or two members of the "normal time" raiders may find their way into PMS, I'm fairly confident that I will be recruiting my proverbial ass off to get PMS off the ground as a Mythic. We are fortunate enough to have some older members who want to raid again. And I've even managed to recruit a couple this early.

My OP (original post) for the raid was put out there early because I knew that getting a raid with our raid times together, that also met our standards for a raider was going to be a challenge, to say the very least. I wanted to make sure people knew what our intentions were early enough so that they could see if this would be better timing for their lives.

I'm also looking at the elephant in the room that I often pretend is not a thing. When I talk to Garreth about leading and when I find myself in need of his sage advice he reminds me often "People want to party with the GM." I don't notice this as much as he did, I'm not bombarded with 10+ people sending whispers to me when I log in, and to be perfectly frank I'm happy about that. But maybe that's the thorn in most peoples paws (so to speak) about this raid. "It's the GM's raid, I want in!" Honestly I can't be sure about this one at ALL because I just don't have the data.

PMS has some late raid times, even by PDT standards we run till midnight which is considered late to some. But those time have worked for our raid a lot in the past, and I hope to see them working well for us in the future as well.

I have a lot of faith, ask just about anyone who's asked me about our times, that one of the leaders in our guild will step up and form a solid Mythic in the typical 6-9pm PDT slot. I look forward to any competition that will be garnered from it.

I'm open to more discussion on this topic, but I ask that everyone take a note of my last reply where I lost my cool. Stop, breathe, be constructive, all caps will get you nowhere you want to be.

Transparent and constructive post E

badpenny — Tue, 07/15/2014 - 16:08

As I mentioned before, next xp there will be room in our raid for a more casual experience at a different time slot: Tues/Sun 9pm-midnight eastern time.  Could we eventually do Mythic . . . maybe, but we're not counting on it as we are only 2/14 H now and have trouble filling 10 almost every day (sub's from Shatner, Mehguy, Elapsed, Kaluu, Instagram, Trazy, Ghostess, Sassy, Daisey and Painhax among many others have been greatly appreciated over the last year).  We hope to have at least 15 raiders during expansion to avoid this issue resulting in better progression and we currently have a solid core to build on.

When it's closer to expansion, I'll post more details on what we are looking for in a separate thread, but I just wanted to share this for those who were unattached and unaware of these plans.

And Ardea's poll is rather awesome.

Mehguy's picture

To the future

Mehguy — Tue, 07/15/2014 - 16:45

As a raid, our PMS raiders were fine with the raid times remaining as they were. Some of them are even East Coasters so they are raiding 12-3AM, if not later. Yea, that's late by quite a few people's standards, but it's what works for them due to their jobs/personal lives.  Our later raid times also allowed for some of our raiders who work later in the evenings and cannot make a 6-9 PST raid time.  So that was an additional primary factor in keeping that raid time.

With our server time now being considered to be East Coast after the mergers, it further hampers our raid quite a bit, more in terms of finding people to fill remaining slots and backup roles. But that's a challenge we are willing to take on. There are certain to be plenty of players (both from guild and those not in guild) coming back to the game for WoD that may want to raid again. Some will want to raid later if they are West Coasters, some may want to raid earlier. There is simply no reason why 2 Mythic raids cannot run within Downfall. And there is no crying about taking the best players to our raid, etc, because that's simply not the case. This guild is full of quality people and raiders, some bring traits that others do not, but coming together as a whole to complement each other is what will make the raids strong.

PMS has been together, as Elapsed said, for a LONG time and will continue to stay together as long as we can, whether it's under the same raid name or not. Because we work well together and know what each of us brings to the table, and that's what makes us strong and helps us succeed. We are all dedicated and have been committed to the guild, our raid and to progression. Any other raid should be striving to do the same thing. Find those people who are committed, dedicated to the guild and to your raid. Find those who are willing to make the days/times of your raid EVERY time. Those willing to play multiple roles instead of "I only play this class/spec because it's all I know".  If people can't make your time or can only make 1 of your 2/3 raid nights each week, then turn them away or have them serve as a fill-in role.  It's tough to turn away friends, people you have known or raided with in the past, but that's the sacrifices you have to make if you want to strive to be the best and play at the highest level.

Elapsed made this "Mystic" raid post to let people know that the guild and PMS was looking to the future. To let people know that we are going to keep pushing to be the best guild on server and still be a great community to be a part of.  If you want to, and can be a part of our upcoming raid, GREAT! Sign up, we'll interview, gauge where we think everyone will fit in, and find any missing pieces to our puzzle.  But if you can't come because of raid times being too late, family obligations, work, school, etc, then I'm sorry, that's tough love. This is something that was determined by the players who would be making up the core of our Mythic raid and we aren't going to change it because of a few dissatisfied individuals.  If you want to raid Mythic, take the advice listed above.  Make your own raid, or join one that someone may already be thinking about starting but just hasn't posted about it yet.  Penny made a post stating what Galaga's initial plan is, talk to him and see if it perhaps hits days/times that are more suitable and if you can stabilize their raid and make them more successful in WoD.  Find those people who you know will help you succeed and go out there and HAVE FUN!  Or you can make the sacrifice and do what you need to if you really want into this specific raid.  Complaining about something that "is shit" or "isn't fair" does not lead to resolution.  All it does is lead to animosity, losing trust between us, and can ultimately divide the guild.

Show strength in unity, support for others and we will assuredly succeed.  That goes for this raid, or any other that may arise.

"It is never too late to be what you might have been."
