What Are Your Favorite Downfall Memories?
Atar — Wed, 10/15/2014 - 08:09
Lets hear them! What are some of your favorite memories that have happened while in Downfall? Was it a boss kill? Getting a legendary? World PvP? Getting a bear mount? Was it when Pyreal asked, "Do I loot all the weapons"? Whatever it may be make a post! We talk about these things all the time. Lets hear some of those great times we've had as a guild!

1) My first time being
Aeolyn — Fri, 10/17/2014 - 10:341) My first time being brought into a Downfall raid was Kara. I was playing Prot Pally and was brought in to off-tank. I didn't have DBM and had to relog to fix that within the first ten minutes of raid. I was a total n00b.
We killed Huntsman and, shockingly, the mount dropped. I didn't know mounts could even drop from raids. Lost the roll. Silently vowed to come back time and time again until I could get the horse. It took me until the second half of 2012 to get it.
2) Assorted early Man Hug memories. Elapsed asked me if I would lend a hand with the 25 man and I agreed to go as my Death Knight. I intended to go Frost but our plan for the first boss of MoP required 3 tanks. Favoring Blood spec anyways, I volunteered to be the third tank. After our first raid night together I was never asked to go Frost again.
Also, my proudest moment was when Man Hug hit the enrage timer and wiped at 0.3% on Elegon -- literally everyone in the raid died. But my Purgatory passive kept me standing as the lone "survivor" for long enough to get in a dying Death Strike and Rune Strike. The boss and I expired at the same time but he was defeated and Mumble absolutely exploded with cheers. I felt like a total badass. Aaaand then the loot crate bugged out and we had to get a GM to manually hand out the loot. But it was still an incredible feeling to have such a great last stand while the various DoTs ticked him down. To this day it's still the only raid boss pull I have ever seen end in a draw.
3) This will probably come across as really dickish but The Twenty Minuters publicly declared war on me one night at the height of my bloody coin farming. I don't note this as a favorite memory because of the fact that I made another guild so angry but because a small number of my own guildmates stood by me and met them on the field of battle. Lumi and I fought them for what felt like forever and Lisa kept us alive for an impressively long time. It was a complete bloodbath and the gap in power and organization was partly what convinced me to host Ashran nights in WoD.
4) Playing D3 and LoL with the PMS folks. Especially Foresight, who played a crapload of both with me.
5) Elapsed sent pizza. It was the best day ever.
I remember that Elegon kill.
chaca — Tue, 10/28/2014 - 13:10I remember that Elegon kill. It was just unbelievable! Good times!
1) After applying to Downfall
Elapsed — Fri, 10/17/2014 - 09:441) After applying to Downfall and saying I was only here for 10 man raids (because I had enough drama with my last two 25 mans) I get a prompt message on the site, the day after joining Lava Crab, from Garreth. Sadly this mail is gone but it boiled down to "Craeg is joining the guild and KB from Blood Faith, and you're raiding with KB now too. You'll be DPS" It was funny because I almost said no.
2) Onrquie and the Taco Bell Bathroom Emergency in Ulduar. There's a Lava Crab memory that had me rolling. How would you reply if someone sent you this whisper?
3) Man Hug's first raid. I had barely just taken the helm of the guild. We were only Gorgonnash, hardly anyone around. And somehow Atar, Grasen, and Threerick had managed to get 25 people together to raid early in MoP. That was a sense of accomplishment for the realm and the guild that haddn't really been realized up until then.
4) My first guild meetup. Something I wont really ever forget. No other guild I had been in did anything like this. We managed to drag Pure down with us (even though he was only an app on the site at the time, figured was a good way to get him approved.)
I couldn't manage to get the time off of work. So I concocted the story that I had been stung by a bee (I'm allergic) and I had Shihli (the most official sounding person over ventrillo) call my boss and let him know I would be in the hospital for an extended period of time (the weekend.) Saturday, we did our traditional trip to the park to bar-b-que and play sportsball. Garreth wanted to get a big football game going, but he had only worn sandalls. So he said "No shoes! So I don't get stepped on!" Much to the irony of my concocted story, both he and Craig got stung by bees on the bottoms of their feet. Karma still didn't pay me back for that. Oh, when I got back to work, I was lucky to have a very nasty zit on the back of my head that had burst that morning. When asked where I was stung, I showed my co-workers and manager that. I told my co-workers the real story a month or so later.
5) Raid: Poker Face. So there was a plan to go back to Ulduar (once in ToGC heroic progression) and get everyone their Ironbound Proto-Drakes. There was no real name for this raid until the first night. The first night was a couple of days after a very memorable episode of South Park, in which they have to try and save whales from whaling (a scheme of Cartman's to get famous or rich or something.) In the episode he sings Lady Gaga's "Poker Face". When we came to raid a few of us were talking about it and singing it. So much so, that Garreth renamed the raid to "Raid: Poker Face".
When we got to Hodir (I had just gotten my full DPS set that wednesday, and had not really played ret except for questing) I was in the top 5 DPS and beat every pally there. Garreth, then chewed out people on Vent and told them "You should be very ashamed if a holy pally in a terrible offset just beat you at your main job."
Then when we got to Yogg there was another Garreth memory. Was our first attempts at it, and in the middle of one, he just falls over dead. Now knowing the fight, as we all did, this left many of us confused. There were no "one shot deads" back then. After a few seconds someone spoke up (sadly I don't remember who) "Why can't I move or attack?" Then we all start laughing because we realized Garreth had hit Divine Intervention and killed himself. The classic Paladin derp!
6) The cheesy one. I honestly have conssitant good memories from everything we do. This guild has managed to make me proud, rolling laughing, and loved almost everytime I log in. I expect the best memories are yet to be made, and I will dip my toe in the nostalgia bucket here, but I'm looking more forward to the future of Downfall for the best memmories.
OMG I remember the bee story.
Allikat — Fri, 11/14/2014 - 20:36OMG I remember the bee story. I couldn't stop laughing! Also from that guild up I remember Shi was really excited to meet you. I heard you before I saw you for the first time and was like "Drew, Elapsed is here." and he was like ,"Wah? How do you know?" and I was ,"I heard him. He's around here somewhere."

The night I joined, iirc it
Deje — Thu, 10/16/2014 - 16:11The night I joined, iirc it was around when LF1M was only a couple of bosses into BT and Hyjal. I was in vent with Grasen and Garreth to "interview," and Garreth asks me "what's your gear like? How's your healing?" I've never healed before, and my gear is shit. All heroic blues, barely even any justice token gear, I spent almost the entirety of TBC just dicking around at that point. Garreth just goes "ok,--" and Grasen cuts him off; "OH WE'LL GIT YA SOME GEAR!"
~~Thanks to all LF1M raiders

Atar — Thu, 10/16/2014 - 05:26Getting to meet you, Faed, Diyana, Aeolyn, Grasen, and Aidin was awesome! It totally makes me want to do an east coast meet up one year.
If you all hold an east-coast
Shihli — Thu, 10/16/2014 - 07:12If you all hold an east-coast meetup I'd endeavor to get out there to meet you guys. Allikat and I have been meaning to make our way out to the east coast for a long time, and that meetup might just be the tipping point to get us to actually do it.
Alternatively
badpenny — Thu, 10/16/2014 - 13:41East coast could meet West near the middle where I live in Denver one spring and do some camping and white water rafting. Before Badwulf says it, I will show up this time, ha.
Some of my favorite memories:
Shihli — Wed, 10/15/2014 - 12:22In no particular order:
1) Being escorted by Jeris from STV to Southshore. This was way back in Vanilla, obviously - Jeris was one of our resident New Zealanders. I was sick of getting ganked in Stranglethorn and wanted to level somewhere else. Jeris told me about Southshore, and I had never been there, so he acted as an armed escort and walked me from Ironforge to Southshore.
2) Winning the Fishing Tournament in STV not once, but twice. Had an immense amount of help from our Australians, Singaporeans, and New Zealanders at the time. Won it twice in two consecutive weeks - thanks to them ganking the horde, messing with alliance fishers, and keeping me safe.
3) When Jeris sent cookies to Garreth. True story, Jeris sent Garreth cookies from New Zealand.
4) When Jeris asked how far we were from Washington. He was making a visit to the USA and wondered where Pullman was in Washington. When we checked whether he meant Washington DC and he clarified that we did, we had to inform him of the 3000+ mile distance from Washington DC to Pullman, WA.
5) Drinking at Rico's after raiding. Back in the <the forsaken order> days we used to go to Rico's, a local bar in Pullman, after doing MC/ZG/AQ/Naxx/BWL/etc. Pretty much all of the guild/raid officers at the time were in Pullman, and it was great fun - particularly when Top of China had its police raid and Garreth got to watch it unfold.
6) First Rag kill. I still have our Raid:Awesome video of it. Jadrax commentary. "Loot the hounds you maggots!" macros.
7) Our epic Onyxia kill after the first Rag kill, when she bugged out and dropped no loot. We were worried that if we left the instance, we wouldn't get our loot - and we still needed loot off of her at that point. So we submitted a GM ticket and stayed up until a GM responded - some 2-4 hours later. So we all made dick jokes and made dick joke screenshots, and altogether had way more fun than was expected.
8) First day of play ever, seeing Teldrassil for the first time. Nothing quite replaces or replicates the first time you see the world.
9) Epic sweeps of STV after/before ZG runs. We used to take our 20-man ZG raids and sweep STV from top to bottom before and after ZG raids, killing everything that was red. Red=dead.
10) Saving Primistic from a horde raid in Silithus. Primistc was the kindest Singaporean you'd ever meet. Very selfless, patient, and sweet. So when he swore in guild chat one evening, we knew it was serious. He was being ganked by a 40-man horde raid that was getting ready for AQ40. So we made our own 40-man raid to go protect Primistic. That's how we roll.
11) Nuitarin swearing in Karazhan in the early days of Lava Crab raids. None of us had ever heard Nuit swear, particularly over Ventrilo. So when he got really frustrated and swore over Vent, we all didn't know how to respond. He then followed that up with "Oh, was my mic on? ... sorry."
12) Beezal. Anything with Beezal. <the forsaken order>'s loveable old mage, who never did get his mageblade. Never met "Bradley Gaines" (he mis-heard Bradygames). Who guided us to the "bridge-hut" in ZG. Who fell out of his chair during a Ragnaros kill and spammed ice Bolt from the floor. Who had us help him set up a MySpace profile so he would have lots of friends, impress his boss, and sleep with her (true story). Who always bragged about how well his daughter played soccer.
13) Getting Glowy drunk at the first or second guild meetup. She asked for a rum-and-coke! I made a me-strength rum-and-coke. This was too much rum for Glowy. I was accused (and correctly so) for getting her very, very drunk.
14) Lava Crab becoming one of the top 200 10-man raids in the world (and top-20 US). This happened during Ulduar in particular. My fledgling little 10-man raid from BC turned into a top-tier raiding crew. I was, and am, still very proud of everyone involved.
15) When <Downfall> was formed, thanks to Docbruno the Dwarf Priest. Who remembers Docbruno? Hardly anyone I'm guessing. When <the forsaken order> was abandoned due to Lemonn and Crossgrip's particular flavor of drama, almost everyone left with Garreth to form a new guild. Many names were brought up, including the second-place name of <There's Talk of Cake>. Docbruno, a (much sought-after) Dwarf Priest in Vanilla, said <Downfall>. No one thought of anything better, and thus we were born.
16) Trying (in vain) to take the reins after Garreth had to leave for RL. I honestly did my best to keep things afloat and running smoothly after Garreth had to roll back his playtime considerably for real-life. I like to think I did well by people, by and large. I still failed miserably at some things (cough cough Immortal cough - I still feel shame and regret for that), but I kept things running for a little while at least.
17) Alone in the Dark / Herald of the Titans. Two particularly challenging achievements, accomplished by Lava Crab. Alone in the Dark was to kill Yogg-Saron without the help of any of the Keepers. Herald of the Titans was to kill Algalon without any gear with higher i-Level than that available in 10-man raids. And Lava Crab did them both. Special thanks to all involved, this was what cemented Lava Crab as a premiere raiding team.
18) Coming back and raiding w/ Elapsed in pandaland, for one night only. Just being able to kick it with everyone again after 4+ years of being away was great fun.
God, I have so many more memories ... I'll have to share them after I get off work.

Group 5 really was some
Ewiges — Mon, 02/16/2015 - 02:48Group 5 really was some amazing times. I wish I could remember specifics, but I really can't. I remember in black temple we had the kick rotation that became really fun with all of our macros. I also remember one time for trash killing day in mount hyjal I switched accounts with one of our shamans. Didn't really know how to play shaman. I think a lot of people were suspicious but I don't remember getting caught.
I've got a long list but I'll
Atar — Wed, 10/15/2014 - 08:39I've got a long list but I'll try to name a few to get this started.
Ataraxia - "THIS IS NOT A GAME" Aidin - "Ah....yes it is" I'll never forget this as long as I live, lol. This has to be one of the funniest things that's happened to me. We were working on Kael'thas in Tempest Keep and Captnopants had to jump around Thaladred and of course got himself killed. As a pissy raid leader I yelled out the above comment and Aidin got me good. Great memory.
Killing Archimonde for the first time. We worked on this guy FOREVER!!! Getting a kill on him is a top 5 kill for me. Plus, that time I tried to tank in Night Elf form, but we won't go there for now.....
Becoming a Guild Officer. This might have to take the cake. I didn't make the cut into Raid: Hamfist. Mainly due to the fact that they had Nuit and Mnor locking down the feral druid spots and were both amazing. Plus, I was fresh to the guild and no one had raided with me before. So little ole me decided to start a big 25man raid on my own. I had no leading experience and only knew the things I'd heard Garreth and Shihli do. So I went for it. It was a pain in the ass but with a lot of help from many Downfall members and Vexxed I made it happen. Raid: LF1M was formed. We had a rocky start but with a ton of hard work and recruiting we became a really successful raid. With all that said and many months of hard work one day I get a message from Garreth. "Do you think you have what it takes to be a guild officer?" He totally blind sided me. I wasn't expecting anything like this. All I wanted to do was raid. I never thought I'd have the honor of being a GO in this great guild. So we talked and he told me all kinds of things and that I really had put in some super hard work to make LF1M work and made Downfall a better guild for many members who didn't have a raid. So humbly I accepted and became a guild officer. So that's how I became a GO of Downfall.
There's some of my favorite memories. What are yours?
Ah man I miss Mnor

Shihli — Wed, 10/15/2014 - 12:30I think Garreth made an excellent choice with you as a guild officer.
I also think Aidin's "not a game!" quote is up there with pretty much everything Pyrael ever said on Ventrilo, as far as memorability goes.
Also ... I seem to recall being present for one of LF1M's Archimonde kills. Am I mis-remembering? It might have been one of your first ones, or it might have been a completely different raid group, but I recall doing Archimonde with you at one point.
