Maxdps.com: How to use it most effectively?
garreth — Fri, 03/21/2008 - 14:39
Just a quick question about Maxdps.com:
When I am having it list its suggestions for a particular slot, should I input my stats as if I were NOT wearing that item? Because it's suggestions change based on how close you are to hit cap and other variables, shouldn't I be inputting my stats as if I didn't have that item on so that it could best determine the stats for that slot? ie "what would give me the most dps for this slot given all my other gear being static?"

Ya Saedo, I have a link to
Dragon — Fri, 03/21/2008 - 18:14Ya Saedo, I have a link to the EJ forums in my judgement topic over in our paladin forums here. I also tend to agree with you though that all it does is give us access to information that is already easily accessable. Especially now having the rating buster mod, its easier to figure out upgrades in game. I dunno, there are some people who swear by maxdps, but im not one of them.

They just don't know
saedo — Fri, 03/21/2008 - 18:35They just don't know better. lol
It's prob a good tool but only scratches the surface of the theorycraft. Just a place to start with I suppose.
Maxdps just seems like a lot
saedo — Fri, 03/21/2008 - 15:09Maxdps just seems like a lot of work for a very general answer. So I'd never use it cause the rogues at EJ have not 1 but 2 spreadsheets, which handles all the gear changing and intricacies on how various stats interact each other.
Never actually looked at the ret pally version, but looks like it's out there: http://elitistjerks.com/f31/t17193-paladin_retribution_dps_theorycraft/

although it is more time
Dragon — Fri, 03/21/2008 - 14:45although it is more time consuming garreth, id first put in your stats with a given item and then put in your stats with the upgrade to notice the difference.
Also don't use actual items in there if you can, rumor is that the site is bugged and when you put an "upgrade" into a slot its slightly off because it holds the stats for your previous item as well.
so short version, first put everything in with your current stats copy the number somewhere. then clear the screen completely but change your stats with those of the new item in a slot :D
