The thing is, the parser
Dufe — Thu, 04/03/2008 - 10:52The thing is, the parser uses the combat log to look for activity (actions you perform or actions done against you), since neither of these things can happen while dead, death will decrease your presence, unless you are rezzed later.
To quote from the WWS site:
"Hi,
If you read french i advise you to read directly the post made by lossendil at : http://www.lossendil.com/forum/viewtopi ... =3788#3788
For all others i'll traduce it :
Presence is dependent on arrival and leaving time, minus afks that
are counted only if the player is not dead and raid is active at the
moment.
A dead player in fight will not see it's presence decrease if he's
resurected later. if the raid take 10minutes to attrib loots no afk
will be counted." (SoaD)
Basically Presence was originally intended to be a measure of raid attendence, to track afks, etc. The problem (as admitted several times by Lossendil) is that they only have log activity to base it off of. This would allow someone who is afk to show up as present because the received a buff, regened mana from a shammy of spriest, got hit by tranquility, etc. Since a player cannot recieve/perform ANY action while dead, they show up with a decreased presence. In other words, it ended up being a better measure of death that attendence. The problem is that the algorithm used only looks for the first and last action a given player was involved in for the current time split, so someone who goes afk or dies in the middle of a fight, but is "active" at the beginning and end, will show up as 100% present. This will possibly change sometime after the new combat log is fixed to show player deaths, as Lossendil simply stated that he intended to update the algorithm "sometime in the future." (Quoted from back in September.)
I'll share everything that
Aidin — Thu, 04/03/2008 - 08:09I'll share everything that we read (Grasen, Shinso and I spent about 2hrs researching) re: presence.
I was baffled as to why on our Kael kill it showed me at 97% and I didn't die once....so we begin the research.
We found lots of things that talked about when you die, when u get b-rezed etc. BUT...I never died...never got b-rezed...so what up with the 97%???
Here is what we discovered. Presence looks at how much time you spend "doing stuff" If the rest of the raid is pew pewing and you're standing there doing nothing your presence goes down. If your dead, you're still there, just dead (so you can die and have 100% presence). If the rest of the raid is eating/drinking for the next pull, it will take this into account when calculating presence, so while you aren't "doing stuff" neither is the raid.
So back to me and my 97% presence on Kael parses...
It turns out that presence doesn't necesarrily parse properly. I was present for the entire Kael death. At the begining of the raid though, the raid pulled the first pull and 1/2 without me while I tucked my son into bed.
So what I've gathered is presences is more of were you AFK checker...I'm not saying I'm right, I'm just sharing what I've understood from the material that I read.
Very cool explanation,
garreth — Thu, 04/03/2008 - 08:38Very cool explanation, Aidin. I've had fights where I don't touch my keyboard for the first 10% (like phase 1 kael) and I've seen my presence go down as well. Pretty cool.
odd that it shows me as 100%
Keisjaa — Thu, 04/03/2008 - 00:37odd that it shows me as 100% presence on Council kill
If you got a brez, it won't
garreth — Thu, 04/03/2008 - 07:29If you got a brez, it won't take into account the time you spent eating floor.
presence is not ment to show
Grasen — Thu, 04/03/2008 - 06:25presence is not ment to show time dead. it is only ment to show time afk. dieing will not trigger presence to drop unless you allow wow to go idle while dead. if your still typeing or moveing your mouse or anything it knows you are still at your keyboard and are still "present"
