Chronicles of Tuque - Prot Healing
saedo — Sun, 04/20/2008 - 03:27
So I got into an Uldaman group and had to be the healer. It was... less painful than I would've thought. lol With me being prot spec, only having a mish mash of crappy "healer" gear, and having no real experience before with healing, I fully expected to be the cause of many wipes. lol
At first it was suprisingly boring. lol I'd stand around waiting for the tank to get hit enough before I'd cast my 800ish max rank holy light heal on him (lvl 39 arms warrior). Maybe it was just Uldaman nowadays. Another suprising thing was that I rarely ran out of mana. Only really ran out when I had to branch out and heal the dps and stuff.
So overall, no wipes, tank only died once, cause I started slow then some mobs stunned me. Anyways, some random cliff notes:
- Don't like Grid. Well, not for 5 mans in my current set up for it. Like the Pitbull with big bars and numbers to see. Yea I know this won't work in raids. But that's if and when I get there. lol Adjust Grid then I guess.
- I usually only look at the tank's bars and perhaps one other that's close by. The others are usually screwed (even me) unless I remember. Heh guess gotta widen my focus.
- I ain't healing life tapping warlocks anymore. lol I just don't have the mana to spare for that sort of thing.
- Same with pets!
- I tend to smile when I see the warlocks in my group scream heal me after they aoe'd and pulled 10+ mobs onto themselves and start to hellfire. Oh, they stopped using hellfire after that.
- So pretty much I spammed one button to heal, holy light. Sometimes threw my draenei HoT on the dps. Used Flash when I was pretty much oom and pretty much screwed already lol Flash heals for so little... lol Like 150ish vs 830ish for holy light. Well sometimes went down a rank for HL, which heals for 550ish then. Tried to keep to max rank cause I assume it's most mana efficient and my mana suxors. lol
Also, dinged level 45 after the run.

Do not underestimate holy
Mashedtater — Mon, 04/21/2008 - 06:32Do not underestimate holy spec for grinding or farming. More than one rogue has made the mistake of trying to gank my pally while out and about only to get a HoJ in the face followed by a 3k Holy shock crit.
I helped my buddy set up grid to look like Healbot at one point because he had the same thoughts about it as you do in 5 mans. You can almost make it look and behave exactly the same. But with more goodies like raid debuff and aggro indicators. Health deficite and incoming heals are possible too.
Warlocks and lifetap- I'm undecided on that one. If I'm at full mana, I dont mind. If I'm at 50% or below and they start lifetapping, I toss a bandage their way untill they get the idea.
I slacked away from my pally for a long time after I got burned out in MC/BWL. But lately it is all I want to play.
Well an addendum to this
saedo — Sun, 04/20/2008 - 23:49Well an addendum to this story. This time, had to heal a ZF somewhat. This went somewhat smoothly too. This is just getting me curious, maybe I should spec Holy just to see what I can do with this.
Prot levelling is def making me sleepy. lol With Holy Shield's been helping along esp with some aoe gridning. But it still tiring. lol
So, if I go holy should I expect the grinding to be even more dull? lol
