I would strongly recommend that the cutesy get used on the way up, NOT on the way DOWN... waiting until you are right about to hit the ground is just really dumb... and begging to be yelled at for wiping the raid. The only justification I can think of for this is if they failed and clicked the Tear too soon. If that was the case use slow fall... switch to cat form...
Use the ability (blink/ charge) early you can save time (if you are the tank you can save the next people on threat). If the ability fails you will have a ton of time on the way down to use the Tear.

Using the Tears you have a good 2-3 second window when falling to use them to prevent death. This would spell death for anyone whose latency is at 2000ms or worse. Hopefully none of us are trying to raid with latency that bad.
That said, allow me to quote the part that I feel is most important:
"Relying on cutesy abilities to avoid taking damage is nice, until you crater and wipe the raid."
Notice the word RELYING. If you want to try and Blink when you hit the ground, be my guest, but don't RELY on it. Use your tears as they are FAR more fool-proof than the Blink/Charge latency-check.

I might be vague on the mechanics so you can correct me.
1. Tears are also affected by latency... it is an issue with everything. From what I have seen Tears are not affected by GCD.
2. You can blink immediately after getting air bursted putting the mage back on the ground, which shortens the possibility of using the Tear at the wrong time and going splat. True sometimes when I waited until the return trip to blink I ended up higher than I was (gg environment not latency). Mages can then fall back on the Tear (or slowfall).
3. Charge sounds like a great idea if you are the tank... the second you go up spam charge to get right back to the boss. I am not sure what Arc will do with the tank gets out of range due to air burst... btw the tank would also be out of healing range.
I would recommend using the abilities that they have been using for the past 1 to 2 years first and then fall back on the tears if things don't work out... the Tears need to be used relatively close to the ground and is less familiar.

Don't do any cutesy shit.
Charge/Feral Charge/Blink/etc may allow you to avoid taking fall damage from Air Burst, but you're relying on a few things to happen:
1) (Charge/Feral Charge) you're relying on you landing within range of Archimonde to use the ability; and
2) (Charge/Feral Charge/Blink) you're relying on your latency to not screw you up.
Relying on cutesy abilities to avoid taking damage is nice, until you crater and wipe the raid. Don't be that person, just use your Tears of the Goddess and don't put your raid at risk. One death can mean a wipe.
