An excerpt from the books is below.
In a time when the world was young, there were many races that lived throughout the world. There were the Elves, a mystic and very ancient race. They lived secluded in their land known as Sheeyn on the western continent of the world. They stayed secluded from the wars and politics of the other major races, such as the young and noble humans. The humans were the youngest of the races of the world. They had come about only about in the last 500 years. The elves and humans however both feared the great evil that the strongest of their magi foretold. The Eradar.
The Kingdom of Gibland was the capital of the humans. They mostly lived within the city of Gibland under the rule of the King Dej. Under his rule they had prospered through the last few wars between them and neighboring rouge kingdoms of humans and had always come out victorious. Their strongest magi however knew that the new evil that was rising was far stronger than anything their army could defeat; he knew they would need help. Shinso was his name; he was a nephew of the king. He knew however though that the king was far too stubborn to ever accept an alliance with any other race, especially the elves.
Despite the seclusion of the elves the humans and the elves did not always get along. There were no major wars but there were the small skirmishes over a few acres of land or over a small spy that had been discovered behind the lines of each other’s kingdoms. Shinso knew however that times were going to change, soon, and if he did not act quickly that there would be no time left.
“King Dej!” Shinso yelled as he ran along the castle to deliver the news. “Yes? What do you need Shinso, I am in a hurry.”
“I understand your majesty, but you must listen. There is an evil approaching that is far greater than any of those rouge human fighters or even the elves.”
“How can that be?” asked the king, with a bewildered look on his face. He was obviously stunned by the news. “What is this threat and how do we fight it?”
Shinso told the king of the Eradar and how the only way to defeat them was with strong magic, and the only way we could get enough magi to combat the Eradar would be to ally with the elves of Sheeyn.
“If it is the only way to protect my kingdom and my people so be it, gather a party and travel to Sheeyn, as a magi you should be better able to convince them of an alliance than any other, be weary however Shinso, do not anger the elves. We don’t wont to lose the only possible ally we have.”
Shinso traveled with only a warrior, the local kingdoms Judge, Dredd. He was a brave warrior and probably the kingdoms strongest. He also brought one of the churches most valuable priests, Cisper. While not being very strong physically, she was one of the best healers in the city. She may have not been as powerful with the arcane as Shinso but she also had a few tricks up her sleeves. A party best fit for any danger the west continent would throw at them.
The trip to Sheeyn was a long one. The trip was estimated to take about 2 weeks walking time and that was with a smooth trip. The first leg of the journey was quick because it was all familiar roads to the entire group being hardened war veterans. They stopped and rested in the village of Darkshire. It was there though were the trip got ugly.
The group was asleep at the local inn when they were all startled awake.“What was that!” shouted Dredd as he sprang away his hands already grabbing both his swords.
“Lets go outside and see,” responded Cisper, grabbing her mace and shield. When they got outside their fears were correct. The entire village was on fire. The huts were burning to the ground and everyone in the town was running away from the town quad. The group ran there knowing that there was something there. What they saw astonished them. Standing in the middle of the town was a lone figure. It had horns and was a dark blue. He wielded a great sword and knew how to use it, by the mass of bodies on the ground near him. It was a Felguard.
A felguard was a lesser demon of the Eradar army. He stood 6 feet tall and ready to fight. As soon as he saw the trio he charged them. Without thinking judge threw one a shield and some heavier army to help mitigate the strength of his blows because he knew he would be distracting the guard the entire time.
The judge blocked the initial attack of the Felguard and swung back with a messly attack from his sword, not intending to hurt them but only to distract him. Cisper began using the power of the light that was imbued to her to heal any types of wounds that the Judge got while Shinso began casting spells of arcane destruction on him. Soon however the Felguard relished what Cisper was doing and began to go after her. “RUN!” shouted the judge running towards Cisper. Cisper though didn’t run, instead she began channeling a spell and instead of the normal gold glow of the energy this was a dark black. The felguard was getting closer and the Judge was far behind. Just before the judge got to her the spell was finished and a large black whip hit the Felguard, killing him instantly.
The trip had only just begun and already they were in danger. Who would the rest of the trip entail? Would they make it ok? Even if they did make it would the elves listen to their plea? Would they help them fight the evil Eradar? Find out on March 22, 2009 when Downfall hits shelves in a bookstore near you.
