http://www.radioiowa.com/gestalt/go.cfm?objectid=F6C79819-F2AF-5AB4-C104... LOL! because of this incident I had to sign a piece of paper saying I will not shoot anyone trying to rob me at the Pizza Hut I work at. Anyways what do you guys think? Do you guys think delivery drivers should be able to carry guns in their car and use it if a robbery on them is attempted? I see the pros and cons of having one, but I still believe it should be the drivers decision about carrying a gun or not. Personaly I wouldn't if I was a driver, chances are they just want the money and will just let you go. However if the pizza hut I worked at was in a bad neborhood with a very high crimerate then I would carry one.

Actually pizza hut is owned
tweaks — Mon, 05/19/2008 - 19:11Actually pizza hut is owned by a company called "YUM!" they also own KFC A&W and Taco Bell. prety crazy shit there.

Yep. I don't think most
Sorahn — Mon, 05/19/2008 - 15:48Yep. I don't think most people have a clue about how far companies (esp big ones) have to bend over backwards to not get sued. People suck. There's no common sense anymore. I remember a training session I had to take at work years ago which boiled down to being sensitive to everything in the fricken world so that I (and/or the company - both can be liable) won't get sued. One of the examples that was given was about holding a door open for someone. Basically, don't do it. Someone can sue me because they *see* me hold a door open for *someone else* because *they* percieve it as being a sexiest/etc action. Complete bullshit.
Oh, and I concur with Grasen on the giving drivers the option. I know I certainly wouldn't feel safe delivering stuff - esp at night. Hopefully they're allowed to at least have pepper spray or a very large dog. :)
Large corporations have to
Tankard — Mon, 05/19/2008 - 15:20Large corporations have to protect their asses in a way that is mildly evil, but it is done because people suck. People try to milk them for money for stupid reasons ALL the time. Like suing for burning yourself on hot coffee. Suppose that guy dropped his gun in the store. Someone could sue for emotional distress and cost Pepsi (which owns Pizza Hut) a few million dollars.
My guess is that the guy who suspended that driver didn't even want to, but had to for political and corporate pressure reasons.
I have to take the side of
Nellem1 — Mon, 05/19/2008 - 05:24I have to take the side of the driver also. There's no reason that he shouldnt be able to carry a weapon, especially if he has been licensed to carry a concealed weapon. He proved that he wouldn't do anything other than what was necessary. Who knows how long he had the gun before he finally had to use it. Good on him.
As for Pizza Hut, it's hard to say whether or not i am for or against them in this decision. In one hand, they punished someone for defending themselves in a moment where their life was on the line. On the other hand, they are upholding a company policy. Tough call there.
what doesnt die right away, will always have my ticking on their mind.
If you area a liscensed card
Mashedtater — Sun, 05/18/2008 - 08:59If you area a liscensed card carrying legal legit concealed weapons permit carrying individual, I say a driver should be able to pack some heat.
I spent Years delivering
Grasen — Sun, 05/18/2008 - 09:29I spent Years delivering Pizza when i was younger and was robbed once in a very upscale neighborhood. The robber followed me from the store to my first dilivery. Had i been carrying your damn right i woulda shot the guy. they hit 4 drivers that night hospitilizing the one they hit after me. I'm 100% for drivers being allowed to carry.
Ya, I understand about if
tweaks — Sat, 05/17/2008 - 21:21Ya, I understand about if it's not your car but if it is your car and the only time you don't carry the gun is when in-store I see no problem, as long as you have a permit for it. Hell, one of the people that used to deliver always kept a walter ppk with him except when in-store.

I guess it comes down to
Barqz — Sat, 05/17/2008 - 18:22I guess it comes down to whos car are you using when you are delivering? If its your car then I suppose you could carry, but if its company car i can understand you not. You can't logically bring weapons to work, unless your job required you to have said weapon. Personally I would just stab teh bastard in his eye with my car keys. Pizza hut can't make you sign a waver saying "I will no longer carry keys to work"
