core2Duo or Quad

I'm looking at building a new gaming rig and I'm torn between a Q6600 or a E8400. They both hit about the price range I want to dedicate to this component. So what it boils down to is a 2.4 Ghz 1066 FSB quad core or a 3 Ghz 1333 FSB Duel core. Money saved in this department goes towards a decent mobo. Thoughts?
And on another note, have any of you had any experiences with vista 64 bit home premium edition and WoW?
What is in my cart so far: EVGA 780i, OCZ SLI-Ready Dual Channel 4096MB PC6400, coolmaster 750 watt modular power supply, 74 gig raptor, zerotherm btf90 cpu fan. I already have a 8800 GT in my hands (not the Ultra or the GTX tho sadly).

So far so good. System
Mashedtater — Sat, 07/19/2008 - 16:52So far so good. System runs like a champ and for the first time I can hit F8 and it will toss wow on the other monitor like nothin. I messed around and overclocked a little. If you are looking at a 780i mobo, the run fairly hot and aftermarket cooling is virtually nonexistant for the northbridge unless you go watercooling. The Zalman keeps the 45nm cpu nice and cool.
I also like vista 64 so far. I have not had any isses with it as of yet, turned off UAC immediatly and all is good.
The order is in, I went with
Mashedtater — Wed, 06/25/2008 - 20:14The order is in, I went with the 8400 duel core. It has a nicer FSB and clock speed. Also went with vista 64 bit home. I'll post back in a week or so once I get it on its feet and tell you the results. I'll also tell you if a Zalman 9700 cpu cooler will fit on the 780i mobo. It is huge and the northbridge might get in the way.

Plus a better mobo will also help your system out a lot more than 2 fancy cores
looks to be a good system! i
Frollo — Wed, 06/25/2008 - 06:41looks to be a good system! i agree the faster dual core will benefit you more at the moment as most apps / games arn't as optimized for multi cores as they should be so you see more benefit out of higher clock speed. what os are you planning on going with? know up front that xp won't be able to utilize over like 2.7 gig or 2gig per single app. a 64 bit os is needed for that.
good luck it is going to screm!

Go with the dual core. You
Dufe — Tue, 06/24/2008 - 23:51Go with the dual core. You really won't see nearly as much bang for your buck with a quad if gaming is your main emphasis.
