PS3 is sold cheaper than production cost

Sony lost about 3.3 billion on ps3, they totally failed in the console war this time, there are still in the war, but anyone think sony will pull a dreamcast and totaly quit the console race and just dabble with games? I don't see them just making games like sega turned out doing but i can see them pulling a dreamscast here if they can't keep rolling with good games, they are on a roll right now.
mgs4 and resistance2 are a good start. However they need to keep rolling with this, bring back the legacy of kain games if possable, get some actual good games to play online, and figure out how to make the console cheaper to make, they did good with the ps2, take out the backward compatability of memory cards and reduce size and increase that verions price was prolly a great idea to reduce cost and make more profit, however downgrading the ps3 now would prolly be futile and make things worse without them realy racking in the cash.
They need to do somthing fast because i don't see sony lasting too long in this console war if they can't keep up the good games. ATM I know of prolly 10 games from xbox360 that totaly kick ass, however i only know of like 3-5 on ps3.......Grahh! end of my rant on ps3 my ex is trying to contact me agian and it just totaly pissed me off now lol.

I would definitely buy a PS3
Derchlon — Thu, 06/26/2008 - 22:37I would definitely buy a PS3 as a means to watch Blu-ray. As far as I can tell, it is still the cheapest Blu-ray player out there, but the games are not something that would sell the system to me. Not enough good games. A few really good ones, but not enough to lure me to buy cross platform games that I could just get on my 360.
Losing money when starting a
Agoney — Thu, 06/26/2008 - 22:35Losing money when starting a new business, or for instance, a new product line isnt anything new. PS3 wont fail due to Sony's willingness to dump almost endless amounts of money into it. I own a ps3, i think its better then xbox360, but thats just me. If Sony/ps3 keep landing titles like they currently are (see 26% increase in in 1st quarter) then I'm pretty positive they'll stabalzie themselves.
PS3 has been in a losing
Nellem1 — Thu, 06/26/2008 - 22:15PS3 has been in a losing battle from the beginning. To go along with the initial cost of the console ($600+), you had a lot more to spend on. Yes, it comes with a Blue-ray disc dvd player. Yes, it is backwards compatible with most games associated with PS2. However, in order to optimize the performance of the machine... you were required to spend more than most had intended. Blue-ray, while a great idea and definitely one of the best modern inventions to date, has under-sold since it's invention. They are very expensive for the quality "upgrade" over normal and even Hi-Def DVD's.
Already, PS3 is at a disadvantage due to this. In order for it to be a top seller, it now has to have it's buyers spend more than what they had intended for the extra luxury that they had already purchased. Not to mention, the number of games (not just quality games) that Sony decided to produce was on the low end in comparison to other gaming systems. Sony relied more on the fact that they had numbers in games due to the expansive number of games PS2 was boasting. Thinking that would be enough for the PS3 to survive was mistake #2. Then when Sony finally realized that they were trailing behind by quite a bit, it was starting to become too late to recover by generating all new, all exciting games that gamers and enthusiasts globally would be attracted to.
Now here Sony stands, in a struggle to maintain their newest invention. An invention that they spent more than their share creating and producing, one they are fighting to make a profit on. What is it that they need to do in order to turn the system around so it maintains it's "prestige"? My thoughts: create more appealing games, reduce the price for the console. A steady $400 for the console and a slight reduction in cost of games renders a larger chance for more sales and, ultimately, PS3 showing the dominance in which it was intended to show.
