Travels in Turkey Part Deux
Popplegem — Thu, 07/03/2008 - 12:18
Dear Blog,
Round two. For the last 4 days I've been in the town of Kaman, which doesn't have internet access of any kind, or anything else that remotely resembles civilization. We stayed at a hydroelectric dam power plant thing in the dorms, and had rooms with actual beds.
The work was about the normal. The area we were in looks very very similar to the Tri-Cities area where I grew up, so I was at home. It was very dry *FINALLY!* and the wind was up. I think I burned off all the minor freckles on my nose.
The highlight of the week was making team names for our groups. Our team was Team Blitzball, and we worked closely in conjunction with Team Chocobo Fan Club. There are 3 of us that pal around together and talk video games and zombie preparation readiness and WoW together. Life can be beautiful.
The rest of the week will be spent making maps on mylar and plotting points and writing a description of things that need to be described before I get to rest on Sunday.
The people are good. The Horde Character still wants to know what to re-roll on our server. She and I debate the merits of WoW ALL the time. I'm creating a post on the Geology of WoW, so that will have to be posted soon.
Only one person annoys the crap out of me, so I think that's a plus.
Eating a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables, and I've finally stopped throwing up. I think *knock on wood* I may be healthy.
The children follow me around still, and now I'm getting more shouts of "I Love You!" when I greet them with "Merhaba," or hello in Turkish. There are market's here, but I haven't heard anyone call them a souk yet. We barter all the time.
The big purchase of the trip has been the Turkish rugs. I got a great deal on a wool one and got my mom a silk/cotton on wool backing rug. It's gorgeous. I also got my sister a rug. I spent 850 bucks on 3 rugs, but since mom was paying (I'll pay her back) it's all good!
Oh god, now I have to get them home.
Next time: The Art of the Turkish Toilet
Love,
PG

YEAAAAAAH!
Ahem...
Man your Turkish adventures sound fun. Any crazy foods? Or did you refer to that in your last post... *Needs to recheck* What kind of fruits?!
WARNING: This post will probably contribute absolutely nothing to the conversation, it will only waste a few seconds of your life. Mavandon's shenanigans should not be taken by children 10 and under or adults over the age of 70.
Ah yes, the rugs. When i was
Nellem1 — Thu, 07/03/2008 - 15:02Ah yes, the rugs. When i was in Dubai, I bought 3 rugs also. Mine are the "illegal" type, however. Persian silk is, for some reason, not legal in the US when bought overseas. However, I was able to get past customs since Im in the military. I got 3 900 knots/in rugs that shine beautifully. 1 of them, I gave to my brother as a wedding present. I currently have the other 2. Persian silk/cotton is an amazing combination, and that was quite possibly the best $1000+ I spent on anything in my life so far. Enjoy the rugs, and get as many as you possibly can. Fortunately, you can turn a profit on the rugs if you decide to sell. It kind of justifies buying more.
Anyway, Im glad to hear that youre having a great time. Also, glad to hear that youre feeling better. GL out there. Return safe.
what doesnt die right away, will always have my ticking on their mind.
