Holy Pallies: Wrath Is For You
garreth — Fri, 07/18/2008 - 13:50
It looks like Blizzard finally got a paladin player on their dev team. Yes, after nearly four years, we finally get the talents and abilities we've been dying for.
I dub today: Happy Day. A day we will all remember as the day that end game raiding for holy pallies changed drastically. We're no longer flash of light bots. Yep, we now are being actively encouraged (through a LOT of talents) to get in there and judge our fucking brains out. Blizzard wants us to judge EVERYTHING we've got. Even non-offensive judgements like light and wisdom will now be able to put up the 3% raid crit bonus.
Instead of the usual holy/prot build that most of us holy pallys use, come Wrath we'll mostly be Holy/Ret. And this is a good thing. Here is what looks like will be a typical OMGAOE holy build:

This gets us into Beacon of Light, which looks to be the Circle of Healing of Wrath. It's a gimmick and will probably have the hell nerfed out of it, but for now, rejoice my faithful. This also puts us into some serious haste territory through Judgement of the Pure that encourages us to JUDGE JUDGE JUDGE. Since Conviction in the ret tree now gives us 5% spell crit and we can also pick up Heart of the Crusader (3% raid crit for ANY judgement), the ret tree really looks like fun :)
Another spec that will be popular, and the one I'm particularly excited about is this:
http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?talent=sxAzthzhVuzxRhZif0xh00h
That's the paladin HoT spec. No, really. We get a muthafucking HOT when we crit. And since we pick up about 16% holy crit JUST FROM TALENTS we're going to be HoT'ing a LOT. I love this spec because we pick up Pursuit of Justice (run speed) and a little Imp Might.
With some synchronization between pallies, it's possible to drop points in some auras and other buffs to really maximize your talent point spending. I'm excited as hell, to say the least.
Coming into BC I was a Poop Hurricane of rage over the Illumination nerf. Now that we're getting ready for Wrath, I can honestly say that healing looks like it's going to be a lot of fun. For paladins ;)

they claim to have seado but
Sorreah — Wed, 07/30/2008 - 14:51they claim to have seado but they also took away ou group mana regen and all our other worth while options

saedo, One thing to keep
carno — Tue, 07/29/2008 - 13:46saedo,
One thing to keep in mind is HP is independent of all the possible DPS pots... there are still health stones. For most classes in a raid, a health pot is definitely the OH SHIT button.
garreth,
You might want to check out the druid tree too. We now have nourish (another button to push!!!) , flourish (targeted aoe heal), and some neat hot return effects. Not to mention a GCD reduction of 0.5 seconds for lifeblooms!
It seems like priests are group healing + old school buffs, paladins are focus/"oh shit" healers + kickass support and yummy buffs, druids are preparation heals with MOTW, and shamans are for healing damage which druid HoTs don't soak up and cool totem things (fear ward, poison, etc.).
I don't think any of this is going to make paladins show up on the healing meters, but, it does give the class more engaging talents - similar to how they've given hunters a mana/energy/rage return ability (to party).
I also think with these added paladin/druid talents, shamans won't be able to just one-click their way to massive healing. One things for sure though... druids can't abolish or cure diseases. Diseases might be rampant in wotlk.
I'm not sure how priests fit all into this. Looks like they got the boring stick?
I think asking 100% of the
Dufe — Tue, 07/29/2008 - 17:32I think asking 100% of the raid to save their ONE pot per fight in case there happens to be a time when the healing can't keep up will generally be a little rediculous. Health stones will still be an option for some, but not all. The trade-off to help the healers/raid avoid having to do this comes in the form of more AOE type heals.
In any case, it's possible this potion sickness won't stay in.
Hmm the prob is the
saedo — Tue, 07/29/2008 - 11:05Hmm the prob is the DPS/mana/health pots share that debuff too.
So one, mana regen is more self based with maybe a group buff. This goes for everyone. Mages, priests, druids, hunters, etc.
Two, means your normal non-healers can't chug a health pot either as much anymore. So puts the ball back to the healers a bit more.
Three, it is less haste pots or whatever you can use so a dps drop there. But, with a lot of the group buffs going raid wide, this is prob just part of the "balance".

Because you can't "chain
saedo — Tue, 07/29/2008 - 10:47Because you can't "chain chug" pots anymore. You get 1 pot per fight.

Yep, that's what I'm
garreth — Tue, 07/29/2008 - 10:58Yep, that's what I'm alluding to. I'm really excited to raid where we must build around our synnergy instead of just relying on pots.

Not to mention. Its looking
Desteran — Tue, 07/29/2008 - 10:03Not to mention. Its looking like Pallys get an evocate as a base ability.

This signals a huge change
garreth — Tue, 07/29/2008 - 10:39This signals a huge change for end game raiders:
We're now going to be building raids around our own regen instead of just just "chain chugging" pots. Might make a few pallys spec beyond just "HUGEPENIS+HEAL" for once. Yes, I believe in the "soft cap" of 2100 +healing.

Sorreah — Mon, 07/21/2008 - 14:02Wotlk seems to be gearing classes to best suit raids if you bring 3 differnt specs of each class 2 extra ppl isnt hard to clear out in a given night
it looks like a prot pally and a ret pally will be viable options

what happens with BoK? Will
warion — Sat, 07/19/2008 - 00:29what happens with BoK? Will one pally have to still be Holy/Prot? Or will have a prot pally get for raid perposes. Cause now that ret has so many great spells for healing most pallys will be holy ret and will not have kings.
i think for me my self i wont be going for the hot when you crit ,i think i go for the aoe hot thing in holy tree.
http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?talent=sxAzgGzhVuMxRtZVf0t this will probly be my spec if they decided to keep it as is.
also in the ret tree the spell call swift reterbution i think 3% speed increse cast range and melle with retrbution arua that would be a pretty cool thing to have and be in a ret pallys group.
shamies healers are OP tho
