A little help in the idea department
Nellem1 — Mon, 07/21/2008 - 13:03
Hey all, just looking for some opinions from those people who might actually know these areas better than I do. Im starting to plan my trip across the US and am looking for ideas for places to stop. Ive already got some obvious spots: Mt. Rushmore, Yellowstone National Park, Stop in Chicago, Possibly go to DC. But other than that, im pretty clueless as far as places to go sight-seeing along the northern part of the country. Ive done the drive once, from DC to Cincinatti and then to Seattle. Im somewhat experienced in the driving scene (umm, I think ive gone up and down the east coast 3 times, the west coast 4 or so times, and across the US once), so if you know of some places... just shout em out, I can figure out how to get there pretty much on my own =P.
Thx for you help =D.

Pettingzoo — Mon, 07/21/2008 - 19:49Hike 4 miles of moderate (by Tennessee standards...you need to be in decent shape) to charlie's bunyan on the Appalachian Trail. You get to stand on an ~1,000 ft. sheer cliff and look at the beautiful smokies. Do this in spring or fall for maximum effect.
I suggest this simply because it really is a spectacular sight. I don't know if you are an outdoorsy kinda guy or not. If you are, I would absolutely recommend it.

Nellem1 — Mon, 07/21/2008 - 18:06LOL... I was hoping to skip places in WA considering I've lived here for the last 3 years and seen most of what it has to offer. And going down to the south is kind of out of the question considering I will be driving a U-haul across the country, so Im trying to limit the amount of "extra" driving that I truly have to do. Great ideas nonetheless! keep em coming. My fiance and I really do appreciate it!

Pretty Much if you get to Alabama or Georgia you have gone too far.

You mean like Amarillo and Lubbock? Fairly boring, come south and hit Dallas, or head west and get some gambling done in New Mexico.
