Holy Schmoly, Wrath is for Prot Pallies
Olorien — Thu, 07/24/2008 - 16:23
I wanted to give the Prot Pally's some place to get excited about all the improvements they finally made to the Protection Tree for Wrath. Like the fact that we finally don't have to choose between stam for Survivability vs. Spell dam for Threat. So here is what I was thinking build wise and I was hoping that Grov and Pudo would throw in their 2 cents as well.
This is my Build at 70

And as of now this would be my Lvl 80 Build

garreth — Sun, 08/10/2008 - 02:33Yep, the second one you linked is pretty much exactly what I'm looking at. Except I'd put 5/5 into imp might. With the FoL Hot glyph and the "might as spellpower" glyph, it's going to be amazing.

Fjork — Fri, 07/25/2008 - 11:07Hehe, yeah, but we'll always have one thing that the Warrior's don't.
Once we hit level 80 we can farm Ony's Lair in 30 minutes, or MC in an hour from AOE blasting everything, then disenchant it all and make a couple hundred on the AH.
WIN!

Olorien — Fri, 07/25/2008 - 10:46Oh there is no doubt that a Pally will never replace a warrior as main tank. As you said we too many issues with silence and no spell interrupt but in 5 and 10 man situations, or any time you need to AOE tank anything Pally will always be hands down the best tanking option. I am just happy that they finnaly fiked some of the survivability issues with pallys, and look forward to future slight adjustments that help keep them a viable tanking option. I remember When BC came out and 99% of Pally's were still only healers but we have been proven at both Tanking and DPS. So we will have to see what comes next with Lich King But so far it looks good.
As too your statement about Pursuit of justiice I was thinking about that, mostly for the 2% spell damage reduction but have come to a final conclusion yet.
Hamm of Righteousness = Win.
Fjork — Fri, 07/25/2008 - 07:07Hamm of Righteousness = Win.
I think you've designed a well-thought out build. The only concern I would voice is on the Judgetment of the Just . If every boss/rare-spawn, or even every other, in the game is Immune to it, I might lean towards dropping two extra points into 'Pursuit of Justice' for the 15% increase to movement speed (Useful against mobs like Kargath when RD is down), but also for the 2% chance not to be hit by spells. That or putting the other two points in 'Guarded by the Light' to let us use our higher-level spells more often with less mana-concerns.
I did notice that they haven't quite addressed one of the issues/concerns primarily on the Protadin.
Silence. Even the Hammer of Righteousness is a spell. I'm going to have to agree with Shihli that the Prot Warrior is still going to be leaned on as MT more than those of us who love the Protadin simply because A) We can be silenced, B) We can't spell reflect, and C) We can be spell-reflected.
Just some thoughts. All I know it, I better *&%#-well get 70 and at least semi-well geared before WotLK comes out. I seriously wanna kill Vash and Illidan before the expansion, and I want to be tanking when it happens! At least once! I don't even care about dropping Arch/Kil'j.
Possibly.

Olorien — Thu, 07/24/2008 - 16:58So by that do you think the idea of the DK tank is to replace the need to have a mage/lock tank for specific battles?
I think I know how tanking
Shihli — Thu, 07/24/2008 - 16:40I think I know how tanking in WotLK will work:
1) Feral Druid - due to huge amounts of dodge, armor, and health, they will be excellent situational tanks and great for bosses that just deal huge heaps of damage (e.g. Arch, Brut)
2) Prot Pally - obviously the AoE tank king.
3) Unholy DK (likely with Blood for tank points) - situational magic/caster tank.
4) Prot Warrior - due to shield blocking, parry, dodge, and sheer health and armor, these will still likely be "the main tank" - so much flexibility in one class.
