it is not ok to sign up sit back and expect your invite forth coming
if you dont get invited and you dont take an active role then you were not ignored you didnt take an active enough role in yourself to make a difference
noone can be expected to care about you if you do not make yourself known.
now if you sign up make yourself known and make curteous inquires and are still ignored that is just rude and that is uncalled for. and honestly this means if you send a tell and dont get a response in a few minutes wait a little bit and repeat. raid leaders are generally spammed with tells during forming of raids and it is very easy to get lost in the crowd waiting until they may have had a chance to sift through the mass and get yourself a little attention to make sure they realize you are available and ready to help is all you can do and a quick response should be enough to let you know you arent forgotten
Also to clarify, my being overlooked on raids wasn't on 25man, it was for kara(10man). Being overlooked or someone forgetting I signed up on a 25man much less a 10man isn't good enough reason to leave a guild for IMO.
ardea nailed it. Raid leading is no joke! I've gained an entirely new respect for all the raid leaders in this guild, and im only just starting. We simply just dont have time to contact everyone to let them know they can/cant go.(granted you may of had a dusch bag of a raid leader) Take it from me, the more you interact with the people, get on site, make/comment on the forums/blogs, sign up for events and you will get invites sooner or later. Being part of the community means your not always going to get the raiding spots, but good members will be happy to be a part of it period and that goes A LONG WAY.
I absolutely guarantee you I will not let you know you didn't make it into my raids on my own. People gotta ask and be proactive. But I don't have an "autonotification" for the other 40 people that signed up but didn't make it.

We have pretty much zero spots for rogues in almost any raid until Wrath comes out.
Let that sink in for the rest of this application process. Our other "upcoming" rogues like Greyvon and Barqs flaked out or moved to alts because they didn't get to see the action they were hoping for.
If you want to come over to help out our 5 mans, run arenas with our people or be on our Gank Squad, the more the merrier. But I must make this absolutely clear: Downfall has more rogues than we can handle as it is.

"but some common courtesy would have been nice. That was my point. "
Quick note about being ignored and raid leading...
Both suck... One feels neglected and one is working really hard to organize a successful event for 24 other people with 50 people wanting to attend it.
I do not know your previous guild or your raid status or your skill... I do know raid leaders do not have time to personally tell each member of the guild that they cannot get in the raid that night... yes, you did sign up so they knew you were interested.
It is really hard to understand their side unless you have tried to lead a 25-man raid.
You may want to change your apps then because I answered the questions based on my options.
1. It could be a 5-man or Illidan, let us know why you like this particular encounter. (this is on your app)
2. see above
If Gruul's is the only 25 man Ive been in....I cannot make a judgement, good or bad based on my only 25man, 2 boss raid.
3. As to being ignored or bashed, poking fun I can handle as long as we are all laughing. The being ignored refers to a situation in my previous guild...signing up for raid 1st then being online 2hrs early on comms in the correct channel and noone bothers to tell me I've been bumped because too many priests wanted to go. It happened regularly. No officer ever contacted me in game or said anything to me until raid time.
Don't take that the wrong way...I understand that as a rogue I don't fit into every raid well but some common courtesy would have been nice. That was my point.
I apologize for not giving props the raid leaders, it is a tough job. It takes a greater person than I am to do what you do. Much respect to you all.
I think the being ignored/bashed issue is more community related than a raid issue. Sorry, bad wording.
Raids aren't my reason for applying to Downfall, I'm really want to be a part of a community. Yes, the game is why we're here but I like to meet new interesting people, have fun playing with others and becoming a better player. I have a RL family but a gaming family is something I have yet to find in WOW yet. Maturity and respect is a must. I don't bash guild members, let alone players in general for being undergeared or inexperienced or for ANY reason for that matter.
Also, I enjoy doing the 5man and I do kara on my own so an endgame spot isn't a problem. I PvP as well. Community is more important than all the gear in this game. I would say family but I didn't want to creep anyone out.
Shihli I do want to point out that on the application there is an example for the answer to the question about 25 man raids that I seem to remember. The suggestion for answering includes naming raids that are not 25 man if there isn't a 25 man that makes an impact one way or another.
1) What is your favorite 25-man BC Boss encounter, and why?:
I
don't have a favorite 25man yet but maybe Blackheart from shadow
labryinth just because of his MC. This first time I went in there, I
think I killed 2 party members while MC'd. I couldn't stop laughing.
You are aware that you cited a 5-man instance boss as your favorite 25-man BC boss encounter, right? I know you said you don't have a favorite 25-man boss, but if asked on a job application to a computer company, "What skill level do you have with programming?", you don't respond with "I can make a mean turkey sandwich."
2) What is your least favorite 25-man BC Boss encounter, and why?:
MC-Magnadar
fight, just for the obscene amount of dying I did on my first
encounters with him. Being feared into lava isn't fun.
And again, you are aware that Magmadar is a 40-man PRE-BC boss, right? Not a 25-man *BC* boss.
3) What things might cause you to leave?:
If you ignore me or bash me.
You must know that we have raids going on almost every day, and that not everyone reads guild chat 24/7, so there will be times when what you have to say will likely go unnoticed (happens to all of us). Also, if you can't handle some friendly ribbing (e.g. Disrupta is a terrible Moonkin who is also a terrible mage), you might want to look elsewhere ...
Thank you for your application to Downfall. We are not currently recruiting for our 25 man MH/BT/SW raids. This does not mean that your application is or will be rejected. What it does mean, is that you will now be faced with a few tasks.
Downfall is a community first and foremost and a successful raiding guild second. First you need to ask yourself what it is you want from Downfall. If it's a spot in end game raid, and nothing more...then you may want to seek entry into another one of the many guilds on Gorgonnash.
If you desire a strong sense of community then get ready to work for it! When we talk about community, we aren't talking about the type of community that jumps when you say OMGRUNMYALTTHRUVC!!!! We're talking about a group for people who love this game we pour our lives into, people who will run things with you when they have time, people who may have their own special way of contributing to the community.
Now that you have applied (and if my wall of text didn't lose u 2 paragraphs ago), don't just sit there and hope someone will come hunt you down and say "HERE'S YOUR INVITE!!" because that simply will not happen. Those who gain entry into Downfall work for it. Members have waited upwards of 3 months or more to be part of our community. How do you ensure that you have every option to be the next addition?
Here's an idea:
Stay active on this thread, it's your application. You will receive feedback and recommendations. Don't take anything personal, if you can't take constructive criticism, you will never make it in guild chat. Applications are open to the entire community, not just officers, so if you were a douche to a member in the past, be ready for it to bite you in the ass.
If given goals to meet, make them.
Sign up for events you can make and which you are geared for. No need to sign up for MH/BT/SW, as those aren't testing grounds for new members. Focus on the Sunday Gruul/Mag run by yours truly or the Saturday SSC/TK run by Grasen.
If you sign up...show up. No one likes an app who signs up for all raids and never shows. Be sure to send a tell to the raid leader so he/she knows you are available and ready to rock.
Download the raid pack. DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT show up to a Gruul/Mag or SSC/TK without our required add ons. If you do not understand what you are looking at, then research it. If you still don't understand, post you're question and someone will help you. (If you think only bad players use mods, we can say our goodbyes right now)
Do everything you can to get your name out there, and show why you should be part of our community. Run 5 mans, Run 10 mans, participate in forum discussions.
If and when you are accepted into Downfall, you are strictly on a trial basis. If we invite you because you convinced us you were the worlds greatest healer/tank/random dps class, and you looooooooooove to run 5 mans...but you never run a thing, you never sign up for fun runs, and you burn out and don't sign on for 1+ months, don't be surprised if you find yourself guildless on log in one day.
It's very simple, don't say what we want to hear just to get in, because it will haunt you in the end. Be honest, and we will be fair.
