I am not sure the statement needs defending.  This 40-something Gnome mage (most likely http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Korialstrasz&n=Xanxan) basically stated “I am ignorant!”

Assuming this is a serious post, which I doubt, I feel similar to Garreth in wanting to reach across the internet and smack some intelligence into him, but not because he insulted a company. Instead of typing “PDT” in any internet search engine he decided to devote more effort to remaining ignorant by ranting about something he perceived as a typographical error or some other mistake. “Is it the same as 2PM?”

Contrast Xanxan with Coffedrinker (http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=5282316113&postId=53751680907&sid=1#0) I am guessing there is a few years of maturity between them.

Being a product of the California school system as well this is my commentary:
Poster is intelligent enough to write coherent complete sentences with decent comma and punctuation placement but is unaware of PDT, PST, EST and the time difference between the many different parts of the world… or at least the terminology that distinguishes them. I am not sure this is an important topic for schools to cover as they are teaching first graders how to read a clock. Do you remember being taught about PDT, PST, EST, or GMT in school before hearing about it in college? I don't... maybe it was touched on in the Social Studies and Government classes I slept through... literally. His question (though ignorantly stated) was "What is PDT?" His minor mistakes show that he rushed through his post with very little thought.

I save the term “ignorant” for special cases and Xanxan is an excellent example.
