Looking at the "Raid Talent"
Dufe — Wed, 11/05/2008 - 10:24Looking at the "Raid Talent" link you provided, I would say that that does not qualify as a real raid build. I'm curious if you can figure out which talent choices I might be concerned about and why. Also, tell me where else you might put them. Can you explain to me what cycles you would most closely follow, both with your spec and with the "more appropriate" spec I'm hoping you find after a review?
(Note: Just because I'm pointing out/asking these things doesn't mean you "fail." I'm just hoping to get a better gauge of your current knowledge level. And seriously, if someone other than the applicant answers the questions for him, I might just reduce that person's site access so they can't see apps anymore.)
Raid spec answer
broptimus — Wed, 11/05/2008 - 12:23Well to start off, I guess I should state that I am new to arcane. I am a fire mage at heart for raids, but as of the recent patch, I had tried arcane as it seemed to do better dps. In retro-spec of my own decision, I see the mistakes I made. The talents I believe you(dufe) are concerned about are.. slow, torment the weak, magic attunement. Maybe I did it to fast, and I am sorry. Slow i realize is absolutely no use in high end raids. Torment the weak is lost in raids as bosses are usually NOT rooted, and magic attunement, amplify/dampen magic does not get used enough in different raids to spec into it. I would redo the raid spec to this- http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/mage/talents.html?tal=235005...
The rotation I would use would be- Arcane blastx3>AM>Scorch rinse and repeat. If clearcasting procs, another AM, and if Missle barrage procs, AM.
Now, as I do not have 2 pieces of T5, and i really question myself, I don't think arcane is even worth it for me now. I believe i just got caught up in the "arcane is op!" movement right now. IF i were allowed to change what i said, i would go my old FIRE! ,the spec i would use for fire would be..
http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/mage/talents.html?tal=235005...
I used this when 3.0.2 first came out. It takes advantage of all the goodies in fire but also gets clearcasting in arcane. If a clearcasting pops, AM!
Rotation- Scorchx5>fireballx6>scorch>fireballx6...
Living bomb for AoE when needed
Fire blast for added dps if i have a surplus of mana, same with pyroblast.
Now for scorchx5, if coordinated with other fire mages in the raid I may only need to do 1 or 2 scorches at the start.
I also realize that fire just may be the better choice right now because of my T4 set bonus.
Its really up to you guys which you would like me to be. Personally now that i look at it again, fire is def. a better choice, but arcane is still viable, just not as much as fire. Hope this clears some stuff up-front. School-time now XD
You were right about Slow and
Dufe — Wed, 11/05/2008 - 23:18You were right about Slow and Torment of the Weak. Basically bosses aren't snareable, so Torment of the Weak has no effect. However, it looks like the links you added in the last post are the same as your original link in your app. I'd be curious to see your fire spec. (As of 3.0.2 Fire should be better DPS, regardless of gear levels or set bonuses.)
For Arcane: Arcane Missiles have too low of DPS and too low of DPM to be good fillers in your AB rotation. At 80, you'd want to get up to ignite in the fire tree and use Fireball as a filler, and possibly as your main nuke depending on how they end up changing AB in the interim. For now, if you wanted to stick with a similar rotation, you'd drop the AM out of the standard rotation and just Arcane Barrage after the Scorch. Then you would just go back to ABx3 since the debuff duration was cut down to only 3 sec. You still do AM on Missile Barrage procs, since it can then provide really good DPS.
For Fire: Remember that we now have Glyph of Scorch, allowing all 5 debuffs to be stacked with only two casts. Also, the DoT on Living Bomb makes it a valuable portion of your DPS on single targets, so you'll want to keep it up as much as possible while still allowing it to fall off and get off it's final tick. (It's bigger than the DoT ticks.) Deep Fire specs right now don't really put any points in Arcane. With the mana usage/regen changes, Clearcasting isn't a necessity. You'd put your 8 into Frost to get the 3% hit and the rest go into Fire. I'll leave out further discussion til I can see that Fire spec you wanted to post.
Also with Wrath coming out in a week, I'm less concerned about you knowing every little thing about 3.0.2/3.0.3 mechanics at lvl 70. I'm more interested in seeing your thought processes regarding deciding what to cast and how to spec.
Fire spec
broptimus — Fri, 11/07/2008 - 19:38I really don't know why I posted the same thing twice. More than likely I forgot to copy the fire one before I pasted xd. So this is the fire spec I had thought of - http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=of0VZ0EzbRhIhVubhct
My thought process on the clearcasting was that , from my experiences , it proc'd alot. I had thought of it as good because maybe I could get a free living bomb in there or fireblast. I guess, as you stated about the mana regen change, hadn't brought that into account. But I can see how the the 8 in frost is way better. The 3% hit on raid bosses is amazing, and lowers the amount of hit we gotta stack. I have around ~160 hit I believe, so that 3% would definitely help. So if i were to spec as you said, would it go like this? - http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=oZ0EcbRhIhVubhctbhc
That's the spec. I know
Dufe — Sat, 11/08/2008 - 00:09That's the spec. I know things are a little crazy right now with all the changes. I'm just glad to see you're flexible and willing to listen to input and think it over in your own head.
Very professional
Fjork — Wed, 11/05/2008 - 08:45Very professional application. Definitely a plus on your side.
I would recommend that you browse our Calendar to see if there are any 5mans/Raids/etc going on that you are able to sign up for. I believe there are still dps positions open for this weekend's KZ/ZA.
I glanced at your gear and this appears to be a better choice for you than our Sunwell or BT raiders. (Not saying they won't still take you, just an observation.) The more events you attend, and the more you can show you are a competent, undramatized player, the better your chances of receiving a DF invite. Also, you might consider macro'ing your trinkets. Get better use out of them.
Now as for Garreth's normal question:
Downfall will be needing many raiders in WotLK that are willing to Raid consistantly every night, four/three nights a week. Is this you? Can you commit to every week, without burnout?
Now, as for Aidin's normal comments:
blah blah blah blah blah. (hehe, she's gonna yell at me.)
Whereas I am in no way a raid-officer or a guild leader, do take to heart the comments about both signing up for raids and not being a douche. There's no faster way to get your app closed than to have someone explain to you NOT to move during a Flamewreath then yelling at the raid-leader b/c you 'had' to move b/c you were being burned. (And yes, we recently had a pug-hunter wipe us three times in a row for that..... sad isn't it? ) Keep in mind after your sign-ups that a signup doesn't immediately indicate an invite, but if you sign-up you need to wait until all invites have gone out before you start looking at a different raid/instance. (Mage-tanking Gruuls = Win though. :D )
Have fun, and good luck!

Thanks!
broptimus — Fri, 11/07/2008 - 19:46Thank you for the review Pedran! I will definitely take your advice about signing up for raids. (could actually use some help there, can't seem to find where to do it on the site, maybe i'm just blind tho) To answer your questions... No, I will NOT burn out. I would say I play almost TOO much. I'm usually on from 2:30 to 11:30 every weekday, and all the time on the weekends. Its just who I am i guess. My passion is with computers, and I don't find myself stopping my gaming anytime soon. i'm here 7 nights a week, not 4-5 :D

Also, you should be able to see an "Upcoming events" section at the top-right of your brower. You can navigate the various events about to happen through there.
Very nice guy
Closer — Wed, 11/05/2008 - 10:01I met Dangulz last night while I was doing dailies. We chatted for a good 2 or 3 hours and I have to say I really like him. I noticed in his app he said he is 17 but I honestly thought he was much older.
I believe he is a very nice person and would be a great addition to Downfall.
On that note, I've known
Spagett — Wed, 11/05/2008 - 17:39On that note, I've known Dangulz for a good year now (we both played on Anub'arak together). I've raided with him countless times, and have yet to see him miss a raid. He's a excellent player, and overall a great friend.
Good luck on your app man!!
