Heads up from Karli & Ky
Karli — Wed, 11/05/2008 - 19:05
So it could mean something significant, but it's more likely to not mean anything at all. I had what's called a "non-stress test" today because I'm a few days past due (due date was November 2nd) and basically baby was very sleepy and not moving around enough for them to feel comfortable about its well being.
Standard protocal is to require telling the mother to go to the hospital for a more in-depth observation, usually lasting a minimum of four hours. I've already had to do this once and honestly felt bored out of my skull because I kind of knew baby was fine (I had fallen down a few stairs and landed on my ass). After spending almost 6 hours at the hospital a few weeks ago lying on a bed, not able to really move around, and watching crappy tv, I am NOT looking forward to this upcoming stint.
That being said, it's just as likely that we'll be home by midnight as they will say "nope, you need to get this kid out, and sorry we're not going to let you do it naturally." Ky and I are very excitaed to meet our baby and so this could be a great thing, but the likelihood that they'll want to induce me (which is more painful, longer, and harder on the baby than natural labor) and even do a c-section is much higher, so boo to that.
Anyways, just wanted to give a more in-depth heads up and we will keep you posted!

Alexinaa — Thu, 11/06/2008 - 17:03Good to hear that you and the baby are fine. I hope baby decides to grace the world with his / her presence soon.
My friend was induced with labour after being allowed to go 14 days past her due date. Ended up with a C-Section because in those 14 days the baby grew too BIG to fit through the brith canal. He was 10lbs 14oz and 25" long. Looked like a 3 month old when he was born. She was mad at the DR for allowing her to go so late.
I have my finger crossed things go well for you guys :)
You know, I knew those stairs
Derchlon — Thu, 11/06/2008 - 23:50You know, I knew those stairs would be trouble when I visited your lovely abode. Good to hear that everything is good so far.
Avoid the C-section if you can!

Ewiges — Thu, 11/06/2008 - 16:52Ironic how such a beautiful miracle is actually really painful (so I've heard) and very gross to watch. With that said, God bless your kid but please do not post a frasp'd video of your birth.

Karli — Thu, 11/06/2008 - 00:21Writing this from the hospital...sneaking on one of their computers actually. Kybosh and I just finished watching Harry Potter & the Order of the Phoenix to pass time. Baby is looking great (as I expected) and so the "OMG BABY ISN'T MOVING ENOUGH" from the non-stress test was basically a big fuss over nothing.
That being said, since I'm technically past due we agreed to let them do a smaller sort of intervention that could or could not result in labor. We're staying here over night and it's quite comfortable, actually. Well...comfortable for Kybosh anyway. I get awfully restless being stuck in a hospital bed for long stretches. Anyways, they may discharge me in the morning and let nature takes its course, or things could heat up over the next 8-12 hours.
Once again, we'll keep you posted....
And I will add that I am annoyed that I missed raid because I predicted that the baby would be fine. Bah, oh well =).
Good Luck Guys!
