If you want help with a leveling spec or help in general as a shadow priest I have already been asked by one person to have a seminar on how to play a shadow priest effectivley and I would not mind doing it if enough people were intrested. If you just have simple questions you need anwsered here is the place to ask or you can PM me in game.

garreth — Sun, 04/19/2009 - 12:20Mori has now been set as the author of this post. Expect awesome updates.
Admittedly, you've said this
Cisper — Sat, 05/23/2009 - 23:50Admittedly, you've said this has to be updated with 3.1 and so forth, but these matter for both pre & post patch.
Firstly, http://www.wowhead.com/?talent#bVhbzhZfxtcf0qihMIoh
Healing Focus (1st Tier Holy) 2/2 isn't needed as with Concentration Aura it puts you at 140%, so if anything, only 1/2 is viable / unwasted. Although, not having any point in it is completely practical.
Meditation 3/3 (3rd Tier Disc) is viable for Discipline and Holy and isn't something you should ever skip. It's a core component of our regeneration and you'll always have - no matter what healing spec - at least 1000~ Spirit buffed, so it definitely just something you should always have.
Seeing how this is the Deep Holy Spec, it's the primarily raid healing spec - so Healing Prayers (5th Tier Holy) should be another thing you should but 2/2 for, you'll use this rigorously in Ulduar.
Improved Power Shield 3/3 (3rd Tier Disc) is generally wasted, Shielding isn't really practical in a lot of circumstances and the 15% isn't worth the points verse other talents.
Improved Inner Fire (2nd Tier Disc)is definitely worth the 2/2 - it provides almost the same coefficient as Improved Power Shield but effects every spell.
Silent Resolve 3/3 (2nd Tier Disc) is a large waste of Talent Points, the threat should never be an issue in raids, nor should our spells being dispelled. No points, personally, should be put in this.
Inspiration 3/3 (3rd Tier Holy) is very essential when it comes to tank healing, but you need to analyse if you're always on the Tank (should get) or mostly healing the raid - generally the casewhen Holy - which it is redundant. The same applies, to an extent with Test of Faith 3/3 (9th Tier Holy), but a little more practical, this and Serendipity (8th Tier Holy) are largely interchangeable and generally more so personal taste and play style/
At this point deep in Holy with 5 Points left (+3 if you take out Silent Resolve, +1 if you put two in Inner Fire from the 3 in Improved Power Word Shield. You have 3/5 in Empowered Healing (should be maxed, practical for raid and tank healing), 0/1 Circle of Healing (completely essential, must have), 0/5 Divine Providence (this is more or less essential, the amount of static healing increase cannot be ignored) and 0/1 Guardian Spirit (this is personal taste as well, but given smart use is a core component to a lot of Hard-mode strategies and literally a life-saver. Accompanied with the Glyph and smart use is a core ability).
Most of the points carry forward to the Discipline & Holy spec, but obviously that itself is much more personal taste and application of practical use.
Of course, the way one chooses their talents is each to their own, but something to take careful notice of and make sure to get when planning out a spec. Great to see insight from other Priests always though, look forward to hearing more Moriella :)

note on this thread
moriella — Sun, 04/19/2009 - 08:55Because this thread has almost 12000 visits, many of them from off site - I wanted to put a note here that this is totally incorrect with 3.1. I'll be starting a new 3.1 thread today or tomorrow.
I should close this thread
garreth — Sun, 04/19/2009 - 09:43I should close this thread down, maybe give you access to edit it, Mori.

Gems and Enchants for Priests
jaibyrd — Sat, 03/14/2009 - 11:14I thought I'd throw this link in here because I like it. It helps me and frankly its quicker for me to access it through our site. Maybe it will help other players too.

ed: apparently I fail at linking...however you can copy paste if you so desire.
I can't remember how to link
jaibyrd — Fri, 12/05/2008 - 00:29I can't remember how to link stuff so I'm just gonna say that I like the disc build I've got right now for lvling. It works well for defense and mana regen and hit power and healing if I end up in 5 mans. Not sure about 10 mans because I'm not 80 and haven't tried it out yet.
Jaibyrd, just go to
Adwarflol — Sun, 12/07/2008 - 10:24Jaibyrd, just go to http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=b and fill out the talent build then copy paste the URL ^_^. Then I'll gladly add it. Or I can just add your spec as is and you can tell me how you'd fill it out all of the way. <__<
sorry dwarf: I ended up going
jaibyrd — Thu, 12/11/2008 - 02:22sorry dwarf: I ended up going holy for 80 and didn't see this post till after I changed my spec. I'll do a talent build at some point for what it was, but I'm not doing it tonight.
Assorted Disc Priest Builds
moriella — Fri, 11/28/2008 - 10:23This is a typical raiding build for 25 man raids.
This build assumes that you will not be solo questing with the exception of dailies as it does not have reflective shield or DS. Reflective shield is amazing when the priest is killing, it's additive damage in a raid is questionable as it only did about 300k damage when on the tank over the course of a couple hours.

This is a very good 'level 78-80 - 10 man/5 man/I still need to level and or quest build
This is my current build. It retains Imp DS which is valuable till you start 25 man content or constantly group with a shaman who uses flametongue totem. It has 1/3 spirit tap for less downtime during fights when questing. It has imp renew because the majority of the time, you will be the only healer in group. It has reflective shield because this spell is just awesome for grinding. At level 79 and 80 would be when I'd add the renew points as you will be doing lots more instances then

Leveling from 70-77 ish
Here you want to max your dps to grind out levels fast. This build is tailored for level 74. After 74 you choose reflective shield or surge of light. I used reflective shield because over time, it puts out WAY more damage then SoL. SoL requires first, a crit then it has a 25% change to proc a free smite. RS is real damage every time something hits you, that you can count on.

hope these builds help those of you thinking about leveling Disc in the future
For the raid build, you
Adwarflol — Fri, 11/28/2008 - 14:03For the raid build, you didn't use all the points <_<
add a point to renew
moriella — Fri, 11/28/2008 - 14:16NT
LOLSmite or Die :D
Dragon — Sun, 11/09/2008 - 08:16http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=bVcbkhxtbxZfxt0bbVZh
Would be my build, Personally I'd also start with 2 points into Surge of Light as well. As you level I'd just dump more points into the disc tree.
Personal feeling is that the build is best for single target grinding/questing since the goal is to keep up spirit tap as often as possible (more Spell Damage and Mana Regen).
Yes, I like Smite spec priests so shoot me ><
Edit: Other things to note: Reflective Shield in disc Can crit which will proc Surge of Light :D
PS. I really gotta level my damn priest ><
i'd take focused power in
Keisjaa — Sun, 11/09/2008 - 11:32i'd take focused power in disc over spending the last 2pts in either tree(and just recliam them as you level)
follow it up with surge of light & PI then go from there
I'd still suggest going shadow over this build if you're leveling
-you've skipped all the healing talents so you'd heal just as well as shadow
-shadow has hit talents & more dmg flexibility so you could just pour +dmg/crit etc into your gear choices
-silence for casters
-shadowform 15% +dmg for 1 talent pt......
I took silence and I'm fairly
Adwarflol — Mon, 11/17/2008 - 08:03I took silence and I'm fairly sure all of the shadow specs had shadow form <_<. I've really liked leveling as shadow I might try some endgame shadow later unless we really need heals.
LOLSmite Moar
Dragon — Mon, 11/17/2008 - 08:21Keis's post though was referring to my topic about leveling an LOLSmite priest
Thanks for the input, ^_^
Adwarflol — Sun, 11/09/2008 - 10:08Thanks for the input, ^_^ It'll really help me speccing my priest <_<
Disc build(seems a bit all
Keisjaa — Sun, 11/09/2008 - 02:10Disc build(seems a bit all over the place)
- as disc you'll be using smite as a spammable attack yet you didn't spend the 5pts to shorten it's cast
-take out the martyrdom & take IMP DS(if you're solo'g any "free" spellpower is good)
-take out renewed hope and add 2 more into rapture(minimize downtime/mana return)
Shadow Build
-ditch blackout(you're grinding mobs not pvp'g) spirit tap is a farming/grinding GOD of a talent
-move those 5 pts into scream/silence(to pull caster mobs) and 1 each into twin disc/twisted faith
-next 3 talent pts should go into imp inner fire(as the Wrath ranks add spellpower)
Lvl 80 Disc build
http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=bVcbuhxtrxoVb0tbxxc0bZh
-inspiration can be swapped for imp renew(which would be better) this assumes you're looking for a farming type build at 80
LVL 80 Shadow build
http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=bVcb0hZZG0fiofkfiqfzAo
-pretty self explanatory
LVL 80 healing builds
barring any changes to CoH I'd heal with this build: (the 1 pt in imp shield is a throwaway point)
