Updated 11/17: Having technical issues... Can anyone help me figure this out?
Torvo — Sun, 11/09/2008 - 19:40
Bump on 11/17... Here's an update:
Nothing has worked so far. The list of ideas Blizzard's tech support (I'll spare the long rant about how slow and ineffective they are) has provided is as follows:
- Them: Update your drivers.
- Me: Ok.... still doesn't work.
- Them: Thanks for contacting us! Take this survey and let us know about your experience.
- Them: Hey, why didn't you update your drivers?
- Me: I did already, what's next?
- Them: Thanks for contacting us! Take this survey and let us know about your experience.
- Me: Umm... You still haven't helped me.
- Them: Well that's odd. Are you using more than 1 stick of RAM? If so, remove all but 1 stick of RAM and try that.
- Me: Ok... Nope, still doesn't work. I've tried multiple combinations of RAM sticks and motherboard slots. Always the same error.
- Them: Thanks for contacting us! Take this survey and let us know about your experience.
- Me: Are you f'ing serious? Can I have a phone number to call or something? Wrath has been out for several days now and I'm getting angry that I'm paying a subscription and you're not being very expedient about helping me...
- Them: (No response, going on 2 days now)
As for the feedback and help you guys provided here, I tried first to just upgrade with Wrath when that came out and it gave the same memory error on the Blizz installer. So, I did the full uninstall, rebooted, and tried to install from scratch. No dice, same memory error on that Blizz installer. For the first time I saw a similar error last night for my web browser when I was multitasking and surfing the net, but that wasn't repeated when I reopened the browser. I dread the notion of having to do a full reformat of my computer, but I think it's coming down to that.... Anyone have any lingering ideas of what else might work?

So I haven't been able to get WOW to load for several days now... I keep getting this error:
ERROR #132 (0x85100084) Fatal Exception
Program: ...\Wow.exe
Exception: 0xC0000005 (ACCESS_VIOLATION) at 001B:7C91302C
The instruction at "0x7C91302C" referenced memory at "0x00976A54". The memory could not be "written".
I've exhausted the Blizzard technical support knowledge base, done some searches on the Internet for help, and nothing seems to correct the issue. I emailed them, but their email support tech assigned to my case was slow to respond and is now out of the office for at least the weekend. With the holiday tomorrow I'm thinking it might be even longer before I hear back... Anyone seen this before? Any ideas what the hell is preventing my WOW from loading?
Nothing else on my computer is impacted. Only WOW and associated files (including the Repair.exe file). They start to open, then immediately shut off and display the same error. The Launcher opens for 1/10 of a second then shuts off, no error. It's getting obnoxious, because usually I can figure this stuff out! Any experts out there who can help me get back online? I've been playing XBOX and watching DVDs, but it's getting boring! I want back in!!

Well, as Lunchbox is wont to say, sh*t on toast
Torvo — Mon, 11/17/2008 - 16:54I guess I need to buy a new video card. What a frakkin' mess. If that works, I'm going to melt the old one down into a rod-shaped object and send it to Blizz tech support with a suggestion of what they can do with it.
Hopefully it won't be too expensive... I've been spending too much $$ lately ><
$110 8800GT, assuming you

You could try to reinstall,
Adwarflol — Mon, 11/17/2008 - 18:15You could try to reinstall, if other things work fine it's probably not just your video card <.<
Tried that
Torvo — Tue, 11/18/2008 - 11:43The WOW installer has the same error. Can't reinstall when the installer can't open =P
I think I'm going to buy a cheap card somewhere close to my house just to test the theory, and then return it before the day after Thanksgiving (planning to go to Fry's for a few things anyway that day, so I'll pick up a better card then -- hopefully on sale!). Probably will be tomorrow before I have a chance to try it out. Fingers crossed!
LOL -- I can
lesda — Tue, 11/18/2008 - 11:59LOL -- I can relate,...
I'm almost certain that Blizz has outsourced their technical support to India or somewhere,...
It's always about updating drivers and completing surveys -- LOL !!
Yeah, whenever I repeatedly
Adoron (not verified) — Tue, 11/11/2008 - 15:42Yeah, whenever I repeatedly get an error, I reinstall the came completely. It works 90% of the time (for my problems).
That memory error is as
lesda — Tue, 11/11/2008 - 16:01That memory error is as annoying as hell because you don't know if they meant ram memory or video memory.
I built computers for hobby -- hence, I was taking my computer apart piece by piece to isolate the problem.
Blizz kept asking me to download latest driver upgrade from manufacturers -- but it turns out I was a few months past warranty so I got no help.
I loaded wow 2X (yeah, that was a pain), played on my laptop for a good long time,.. finally bought a $20.00 Radeon Video Card -- thing works like a charm now. I think it's got 512mb of memory. Cheap for the performance boost.
I know deleting WTF file has no correlation to video hardware -- but my troubles began with that.
What 20$ card did you get ?
Adwarflol — Tue, 11/11/2008 - 16:15What 20$ card did you get ? lol

I had this exact same thing
lesda — Mon, 11/10/2008 - 09:29I had this exact same thing happen to me once,...
1. This was after I deleted my WTF folder.
2. Error persisted until I bought and installed new video card.
Good luck !!
I'd concur with shihili, but
Adwarflol — Sun, 11/09/2008 - 21:35I'd concur with shihili, but save ur patches!!
