Karli and Kybosh welcome level 1 male human! (Starts at Exalted w/ the Boobies Faction)
Karli — Mon, 11/10/2008 - 19:56
Colin was born via c-section at 1:22am on Friday November 7th. He is completely healthy and weighed 7 lbs 12 oz at birth and measured 20 3/4 inches long.
Labor was induced starting around 9:30pm Wednesday evening per our decision (we were just tired of playing the waiting game--it's enormously hard on your psyche--and they typically offer it to past-due women). I began contractions around 3am, and by 10am was having some serious issues dealing with the pain. I spent another 1 1/2 hours actually in a tub which really helps, and then I had some IV pain meds which got me through about another 2 hours. By then I had totally caved and demanded an Epidural, and I can honestly say that I cannot fathom the pain getting any worse than it had been or dealing with it any longer....so for those of you ladies who spent longer in labor and made it all the way through, I applaud you.
Anyways, got the epidural around 3pm, and was doing amazingly well after that (as in, I almost felt normal). They started to have some concerns about my progress and how baby would handle it as the night wore on, and even though I REALLY did not want to consider a c-section as an option they pretty much told me that if things got much worse it may have turned in to an emergency situation.
So, at around 1 am they started the surgery. It's not painful because you are numbed up beyond belief, but you CAN feel enormous amounts of pressure and your body typically responds by shaking violently. Colin was born shortly thereafter, and his proud papa, who was previously so squeemish around blood that he couldn't look at me getting a shot, cut the umbilical cord.
I spent about an hour recovering from surgery, and the next few days got far too little sleep. Can't say I like being at a hospital, as I'm an INCREDIBLY light sleeper and with the amount of guests we had coupled with the constant flow of doctors, I was a basket case by Sunday morning. We finally had to kind of put our foot down with the staff and say they needed to give me at least a few hours of guaranteed no interrruptions because at this point I'd slept maybe 7 hours since Tuesday.
We asked for an early discharge and got home yesterday evening. I'm still recovering from the c-section, but most of the time it's not as bad as I thought it would be. Getting out of bed has proved to be the hardest and most painful thing I do. I am surprised at how little not getting much sleep is bothering me, mostly because I tend to not be in a great mood or be able to function well and I've been happy and productive so far.
I'm not a "babies are so cute!" kind of person but I really have to say I am so in love with my little son. Everything he does is just so cute and fascinating...I really think I am going to enjoy these next few months just chilling with him at home.
Kybosh has been absolutely amazing, from supporting me during labor to picking up new fatherly duties like a champ.
Sleep is really sporadic right now, but I do think things will settle into a good routine here quite sooner than I thought they would, so I imagine we'll be online a decent amount in the upcoming weeks. I'm sure we'll both be big dorks and post more pics of him later, but here are a few for now!

Huzzah!!!
Salus — Wed, 11/12/2008 - 21:52Congratulations to you and Kybosh... Denul and I were randomly thinking of you guys the other day... "Did she have that baby yet?!"
I love the name "Colin"... a good, classic boy's name. Too many parents name their kids wacky and ridiculous names, it seems - I'm all about tried and true names.
(He's adorable, hun.)

Tankard — Wed, 11/12/2008 - 12:02Grats you two! The problem with boobies rep is that it goes down for at least 10 years to the point where you're hostile and then you spend the rest of your life trying to grind it back up to exalted.

Aidin — Tue, 11/11/2008 - 09:50So glad you are all doing well.
Everyone tries to prepare...but no one is EVER perpared for that kind of pain, are they Karli? ; ) Yay for epidurals! What was the cause of the stress that brought on the c-section?
Aidin, you totally called
Karli — Tue, 11/11/2008 - 12:05Aidin, you totally called it. You said to get the epidural and DAMN were you right. That kind of pain is just....like, how could you not being dying? Meh. No more natural birth shit for me! Honestly the c-section still isn't even that big of a deal. Kybosh's mom commented that I was looking more mobile than she was after she delivered Ky's 10 lb little brother the regular way...
Not tellin ya what I went
jaibyrd — Tue, 11/11/2008 - 13:05Not tellin ya what I went through but all I can say is this: YOU GO GIRL!! You and your family will do what is best for you and let no one and nothing get in the way of that. Remember this though: the remembering of the pain fades pretty fast (that's why there are families with more than one child).
"They" say that pain is like
lesda — Tue, 11/11/2008 - 12:12"They" say the pain is like no other that it makes you forget and you end up having more children !! :)
So very true :) Congrats
