Resto Shammies
lesda — Thu, 11/13/2008 - 11:26
Excellent thread I saw from our fellow druids regarding spec they are using for leveling to 80.
I was going to keep my resto -- but having second thoughts and thinking about going Enhanced now.
What are your plans?
Since I have not used Enhanced in a while -- any good tree for follow?
Thanks,

I hit 80 this last
Lunchbox — Fri, 11/28/2008 - 09:37I hit 80 this last weekend. Thing is, I already had all my Resto talents in place pre WOLK. The only points I was not able to get until WOLK was in improved shields and Insta ghost wolf. Everything else went into Ele tree. Theres plenty in the resto tree that really is not needed.
Thanks, Lunch,... I guess
lesda — Tue, 11/25/2008 - 10:22Thanks, Lunch,...
I guess there's just no way of avoiding the "grind",...
I've been questing feverishly as well,... adding points in the elemental tree for extra "umph" with mobs.
Also, picking up more trinkets with haste,... and that quest reward from Nexus,... I'm now 340 haste, woot !!!,... helps kill mobs quicker,... I think.
Work just keep getting in the way,... LOL.
I been doing straight
Lunchbox — Sun, 11/23/2008 - 08:41I been doing straight questing. The idea (from what I always believed) behind rest, was it was to help make up for the time you are not spending lvling, but it is not going to replace lvling all together. I always saw it as a way to keep up at your lvling pace, but I also don't rely on kills to gain lvls, I rely on quest turn ins. And as such, with rested exp, the bonus does not apply.
One of the things I found that helped, is instead of using my book of the highborne, I been using my ole PVP shield, (Which I just replaced last night) What this did for me was boost my armor, while taking my healing ability down. Though when running instances, I would switch em. Reason being is only person I need to heal when solo questing is myself, so I know i dont need OP heals for that.
I also still have not swapped out a piece of T6 gear yet, but I am hoping that that this changes once I finally get back to dungeons. I been having too much fun doing quests. Also do the string that starts with the quest They Took our men in K3. The quests will have you be saying WTF that was awsome, as well as I started it yesterday and spent a good 8 hours, and the quest string keeps leading to new quest strings. I guarentee it will not dissapoint (with exceptiong to beating exhausted Vikruls)
Beating the exhuasted Vyrkuls
garreth — Mon, 11/24/2008 - 13:24Beating the exhuasted Vyrkuls was sad. But the harpooning proto-dragon riders was WIN WIN WIN! (if that's the chain i remember correctly).
Ret > Prot for leveling
Cdhabro — Tue, 11/18/2008 - 11:27I started off leveling as ret with some random T5 I'd picked up in smash'n'grab (i look like a warrior) then specced prot for a little while for instances. after i finished with the dungeons i tried to quest prot, the damage is far better then pre-3.0 but the current ret just mows down mobs. decent AOE and lots of burst, single mobs drop in a 6-8 second rotation and multiples about as quick. Mobs in genereal didn't seem too keen to let me try to prot aoe grind (plus you can't Rank 1 consecration kite anymore since the downranking nerf.) I'll keep ret until 80, then prot and go primary prot/secondary ret once they have dual speccing in place.
Side note, i saved my first azol'nerub run, was DPSing ret and the feral tank was horribad, healer was about to bail and I said i'd put on my prot gear and try to tank... i died at about the end of every boss fight (enh shaman healing) but no full wipes. felt very strange after having tanked prot so much.
Just curious what tact peeps
lesda — Tue, 11/18/2008 - 11:56Just curious what tact peeps are taking to level,...
I like playing my toons when they are fully rested,... so I alternate characters.
Is there really a benefit in maintaining this type of approach?
The xp you get from killing mobs is cut in half -- but quest completion still awards full xp,...hmmmm.
As an update I been having
Lunchbox — Sun, 11/16/2008 - 07:47As an update I been having fun staying resto. I like it as when I upgrade gear I can stay focused on maintining the type of stats I need to be on top of. Plus I can live for days. I can't wait to get some of the new spells, as 71 and 72 spells sucked for me with exception of new lesser healing. I have a feeling that in arena 2v2's at 80 resto shaman are going to be OP'd heh. hex then heal
Hey Lunch, Fun to see some
lesda — Tue, 11/18/2008 - 10:52Hey Lunch,
Fun to see some shammy posts,... almost 72 and so far I'm staying resto as well,...
So sick of those green items from quest rewards.
I only hope it gets better as we level,...
Glad you two are staying
garreth — Tue, 11/18/2008 - 10:55Glad you two are staying resto! Blizzard did a great job of alleviating the tank shortage, only to encourage all the healers to roll dps! :P
I have to admit though: Being a competent healer at 74+ makes me feel like the prettiest girl at the dance! Everyone wants me!
Being a competent healer
lesda — Tue, 11/18/2008 - 11:07LOL -- a pretty dwarf chick !!!
Can't get that image out of my mind, G.
Downfall Oxymoron
Dragon — Tue, 11/18/2008 - 11:12pretty dwarf chick
Like the topic title says, that is an oxymoron
Too be perfectly honest,
Lunchbox — Fri, 11/14/2008 - 08:54Too be perfectly honest, I have had no problems so far sticking with resto. Since they changed it from + Healing to + Spell power, My Damage is up there with my heals, as well as since Aestrix got some really nice new enchants that she needs to lvl, I been able to solo better then she has and shes a mage XD. I like having things like riptide and natures swiftenss for last minute heals if things are looking grim. Plus people are always looking for healers for the instance runs. It is your call though, but I am still gonna tough it out. Yeah sure, with Ele you will be able to down mobs quicker, but with my PVP shield my armor is at 11k so I can run around and take hits and dish out damage. We will see though.
I think alot of the hesisitence to stay resto was pre-3.0 when Wow was not healer friendly. It also makes it easier if you get some crit or PVP gear. Then again though I am decked out in t6 so that probably makes a huge difference.
Thanks for that feedback
lesda — Fri, 11/14/2008 - 11:26Thanks for that feedback Lunch.
I'll come back to this post to see if anything changes,... meanwhile, I'll keep resto to try it out as well.
Haven't been to BT yet. Having too much fun with DK.
I'll have to play major catchup at some point :)
I'm pretty sure every single
garreth — Fri, 11/14/2008 - 04:44I'm pretty sure every single resto druid went Oomkin. Kati keeps bragging to me about her 8k crits.
