Well, he plays Basketball so
Agoney — Thu, 12/04/2008 - 07:01Well, he plays Basketball so I'm down.
I like this application.
jaibyrd — Thu, 12/04/2008 - 02:04I like this application. Often I don't even weigh in but I like him because
1) he is from Alberta
2) he obviously knows how to play/class stuff
3) I appreciate his honesty about how many raid nights he can make, most of us if we actually look at our attendance is very simular to what he says he does.
So basically I'd like to do some grouping with him and see what kinda person he is but first impression is sure positive. ;-D
However if you are a Stampeder fan...this is all null and void.
Part of the reason I started
Botwin — Thu, 12/04/2008 - 10:16Part of the reason I started leveling my DK so late was because I was in Ontario/Montreal for the Grey Cup :D
Well..hmm...since I live in
jaibyrd — Thu, 12/04/2008 - 16:48Well..hmm...since I live in NE Alberta I'm not actually a Esks fan. I grew up in BC and I've always been a Lions fan. Heartbreaking that it wasn't an all west gray cup this year, wasn't it?
See normally I'd agree since
Botwin — Fri, 12/05/2008 - 16:12See normally I'd agree since in years past BC has been my second favorite team but it was just so satisfying after they gave out the most outstanding player and all star game to everyone but the best team in the league, my Stamps, to see everyone else get stomped out including BC who had more than half the West All Stars on their roster (for the 4th time).
Questions to follow.
Shihli — Wed, 12/03/2008 - 12:37Questions from a fellow Unholy DK, who is MT in 10-man instances and OT in 25's :
1) (Disregard if not currently tanking) why didn't you pick up Blade Barrier, Toughness, or Anticipation?
2) Why didn't you max out Necrosis or go for Outbreak?
3) Why did you go with Impurity? It does *not* add 25% of your Attack Power as damage, but rather the *damage coefficients* scale with your attack power. This leads to, at best, approx. 10-12% damage increase on Death Coil - and much much lower overall improvements on all other DK spells.
4) Why bother with Master of Ghouls when, in a raid and heroic dungeon environment, the ghoul dies too fast to make an impact?
5) Why bother with Wandering Plague? I used to think this was a good talent too until I read the fine print - it has, for you currently, a 21% chance to deal additional damage from your diseases to surrounding targets. This means that, at most, this will proc once every 5 seconds or so, for approx. 200-300 damage per proc, per target. This means that on a typical group pull (3-4 mobs), it will do - again, at most - about 240 dps. Assuming nearby targets aren't disease-immune. And this is in dps gear - if you plan on tanking your crit chance will plummet and the talent will be near-worthless.
Ok now as for the questions
Botwin — Wed, 12/03/2008 - 13:46Ok now as for the questions from my DK brotha, I'm not a tank yet I just posted that as what I prefer doing. ATM I'm all out DPS spec since I don't have the gear to tank yet. (I still love dpsing too)
1. I'm not tanking right now.
2. Outbreak is an aoe talent and there's plenty of AoE I have without it, maybe not maxed but will cost me boss dps which is where I feel I really need to do the max possible damage.
3. Impurity causes just over 5% of your total DPS since Unholy is the most magical damage based spec for a DPS DK in Naxx equivalent gear.
4. The master of ghouls adds a great deal to dps in a fight where it survives well along with it's utility to soloing.
5. Wandering plague - This not only spreads desieses to multiple adds but makes all of your disease dots have a chance equal to crit (30% in naxx gear more fully buffed) to do 100% extra damage, effectively making your dots crit. In effect it's one of the most damage/talent point talents according to theorycrafting.
Edit: BTW my tanking spec will be very differant but I don't need to spec it unless you guys need me to MT
To address points: 1)
Shihli — Wed, 12/03/2008 - 13:55To address points:
1) Ok.
2) Gotcha, since you're not tanking Pestilence/BB aren't as important.
3) From everything I've read Impurity doesn't stack up very well for a dps-focused build. I haven't read any of the EJ theorycraft work, however commentary on Wowhead seems to indicate that it's not exactly worth the points.
4) I'm impressed that your pet survives long enough to sneeze at a boss.
5) Wandering Plague does *not* spread diseases. It deals damage to nearby targets when a disease damages a target - the only way to spread diseases around in an AoE fashion is by way of Pestilence. And again, my math indicates that against a typical boss (1 mob), at 30% chance to proc, you're going to see ... maybe 50-60 dps increase thanks to it. There are no bosses in the current content where you'd be dps'ing more than the boss themself, so at the cost of 3 deep-tree talent points you're looking at maybe 50-60 dps increase, which - if my dps as a tank is any indication - is about 3%. You be the judge on whether those points are best spent there.
3. Scourge strike is magic
Botwin — Wed, 12/03/2008 - 14:113. Scourge strike is magic damage, so is UB and Death coil that's enought right there for a big damage boost.
5. I'm mainly trusting EJ theory crafting on this, I haven't gotten to raid yet enough to test things out myself as of yet.
Scourge Strike is indeed
Shihli — Wed, 12/03/2008 - 15:49Scourge Strike is indeed magic damage, I might have to do some testing on Impurity to see if it's worth the points. As for the EJ theory work on Wandering Plague, the way I see it the math breaks down like this:
Let's say you have a 33% chance to crit. Wandering Plague cannot proc more than once per second. This means that *on average*, it will proc once every three seconds. When it procs, it will deal 100% of the disease damage on a target (aka Plagued Blood), which typically procs for ~200-300 damage. Let's go on the high end and say 300 damage per proc, per eligible target.
This means that if you're only fighting one mob, Wandering Plague will *on average* deal 300 damage every 3 seconds, for a 100 dps increase. Do keep in mind, though, that this is on the high end of gear - right now in my dps set I have ~22% crit, and my disease procs for ~240 damage on the high end, meaning Wandering Plague would proc about once every five seconds, for a total dps increase of about 48 - way smaller than the 100 dps quoted above.
When you do reach that high of a crit chance, odds are you'll be doing the 2500+ dps numbers, which means a 100 dps increase is a 4% damage increase, for 3 talent points - this is certainly worth it at that level of gear. At my level of gear, it'd be about ... oh, 2.5 to 3% increase.
So it might well be worth it at all levels of gearing, but it certainly scales as your gear gets better. I'll have to do some more research to see what turns up.
I have just a few questions
Fjork — Wed, 12/03/2008 - 12:46I have just a few questions for you.
Normally I am alot more positive with guild apps and such, but I will be frank with you so that you do not get the wrong opinion of me. It appears you do not have the right idea of what Downfall is as a guild.
Downfall is a community first, a raiding-guild second.
Yes, we do have a fair number of raiders who spend 100% of their game time either in-raid or prepping for raid. It happens, however each of these Raiders is dedicated to not only themselves but the Raid and Guild as a whole.
If your application was written with a completely different intent, but you only accidentally came off as a cocky, holier than thou, impatient, selfish raider than I apoligize right now.
My advise to you is to do one of two things:
Alright first I'll go through
Botwin — Wed, 12/03/2008 - 13:29Alright first I'll go through the answers to Pedran: Why I left stoic was because the main reason I was in it was because one of my best RL friends was in Stoic, I was not the MT nor would I be in WotLK since I started Lich King late they had full raids so they wont be missing me THAT much. It was time to move on and I decided to go back to my roots on Gorg for the PvP, the old friends and some new friends. My RL friend that I went to play with said he'd xfer here as well if he starts playing again as well. As to not waiting 3 months to raid that doesn't mean if I don't get in I won't keep my app up until there is room, but I have friends in many guilds and would want to play with people like orky anyway. With the time I put into WoW I like to raid and if I can't do so in 1 guild I'll find another. For my looking to see new content, it's not about progressing insanely fast, it's about overcomming a hurdle. What I mean by that is 2-3 or even 5-6 weeks on the same boss isn't going to discourage me, I'm not a quitter. I just meant to state as a raider and as a member of the guild I'll do what I can or what you need me to to down that boss. 80% is very high, it's usualy the base standard for the very best and server top guilds, that doesn't mean it WILL be 80% it just may drop to that during these couple months I'm busy coaching the basketball team I may have to miss or at least be late for 1/5 raids a week. In my old guild stoic my attendance over the course of the 4 months I raided with them was 99% missing one raid because my sister was in the hospital. Tuesday is an important day I know that, but there's a differance between missing something RL wise to make a wipe night on a challenging boss and missing one and letting a backup have a spot for a raid instead of killing (for example) Sartharion for the 50th time. I can say with full confidance that if given a chance, I will be one of the top attendees. I'm sorry if the app came out cocky, it was meant to come out as confidant, I usualy fill out apps as I would a resume, very professionaly. That's not what I'm about at all, all these high standards I have are more about my own play. I didn't put who I am as a person more because I really believe you have to meet me, I'm a chilled out take er ez person in RL not any kind of freak out over mistakes nazi. After all Lush was my favorite guild I've ever been in and as the name emphasizes it was a relax and get drunk with friends type of raiding environment that Tew and I were striving for. Every guild is based on being a community that's what makes it fun, I'm active in forums and like to run with pugs within the guild (How I got to know Tew was our "Bi-Weekly Drunken ZG" in Vanilla). I can't say I'll be everyone's best friend but if you're into cracking jokes and not freaking out in raids we'll get along great. It seems like you went after my more hardcore app style AND my more chill out RL comes first opinions. The only thing I can say is I got along with Orky and Rupta great and I'm sorry my app came off as cocky but you can't really understand my tone while typing that's exactly why I don't think I can represent my personality through an app. If this is a real concern give me an interview in vent I'm not the person you seem to think I am :( -Logan

Fjork — Wed, 12/03/2008 - 13:40It is something with the guild-apps. You have to put your text in, then hit "edit" after you complete it and change it up. The Guild-Site just went through a major revamp.
And on to my post.
I'm sorry.
There was no excuse for me to be quite so......... callous? to a guild app. I'm sorry for that.
I can respect your attempt at a professional guild-application, and to be honest I was trying to re-edit my original post because I came across as a complete a-hole, which REALLY wasn't my intent. After your explanation, I see where your 'intent' was in alot of your statements and I'm sorry for my assumptions and for how badly my 'intent' came across (which wasn't as negative as that post is.).
You get my vote just for responding to my jerkface post in such a positive manner.
Hey no prob dude I understand
Botwin — Wed, 12/03/2008 - 13:42Hey no prob dude I understand where you're comming from, with no sense of tone and context in typing my app very well may have come through as a know it all douchebag. I AM a know it all but I only offer my opinions and advice when asked. Thanks for the vote bro :D

Fjork — Wed, 12/03/2008 - 12:49I forgot my normal disclaimer:
I am not a guild officer, recruiter, raid-leader, or nearly anything except a guild member with WAY to much time spent in the forums.
And like I said, if your application just came across wrong, I apoligize, but lemme know.
