The Not-So-Shocking Farewell Post
Karli — Tue, 12/16/2008 - 16:38
I'm sure this post will not come as a shock to those in guild that have been playing alongside Kybosh and I for the last several months (and years). My account expired as of this afternoon, as I stopped my recurring payment a bit over a week ago.
It's definitely weird to be experiencing a variety of emotions over a video game, but I never realized when I bought this game 3 1/2 years ago that I'd enjoy it as much as I did or be able to make legitimate friends of those I played with. It is very much a bittersweet feeling to be typing this up right now.
You all know that Ky (Jason) and I recently had our first child, and I would imagine many of you have noticed we haven't been on much (if at all) since. It's not that we couldn't be playing if we really wanted too (which again, many of you know for a long time that we were really hoping to try). It's just that well....we wouldn't be able to do anything else. Obviously a newborn takes an enormous amount of time and energy, and it is definitely the cliched wonderful and challenging experience that all those before us say it will be. As they say, having a baby changes your life.
WoW and all the Downfall crew have been my relaxation, my hobby, and a good part of my social outlet for almost three years now. And during those three years I have been able to maintain a balance between working full time, advancing my career, spending time with our relatively large and awesome group of friends here in Portland, doing other hobbies that I enjoy, and generally being a more or less responsible and productive member of society.
I don't think I'd be in the minority of gamers here to say that one area that has suffered since the start of my "wow career" is the time I spend with my friends here in town. I also know that one of the other things new parents (and their friends) say the most is how much their relationships can suffer after the addition of a child. It wouldn't be unfair to say that I have taken certain friends for granted and spent less time with them than they deserved, and it is primarily for this that I need to hang up my mage boots. In short, Jason and I realize that yep, we could keep playing wow...but we'd end up losing all our friends in the process because there just isn't enough time in the day.
Another thing that is really worth saying is that again, we could keep playing, but honestly, what both of us loved doing was raiding, and raiding together. I already miss the scramble to get home from work and pop on my computer to get ready for raid, and slay internet dragons with a group of people that I considered to be friends. But the reality is that it would be irresponsible for Jason and I to attempt to get back into that kind of habit, and no other aspects of game play quite do it for either of us.
I am unsure if we'll attempt to come back, and honestly it would probably be best if we didn't. I don't do well trying to recapture the glory of good things past; they always fall short and end up leaving you disappointed in the end.
There are so many of you that I will truly miss and I know I will wonder and hope that you're doing well as time passes.
To my Downfall ladies: Melissa/Glowy, Cindy/Closer, Christine/Aidin, Dalene/Saja, Katie, Alli, Josalin, Jorence, Everstar, Jaibyrd, and Jasmine (even though she is fail for leaving)--thank you for not making me a sole pair of boobs in a sea of horny teenagers.
To other Downfall members who have been raiding alongside me all this time; Chris/Cat Herder, Sorahn, Tankard, Keisjaa, Grasen, James/Gares, Nuit, Agonub, Shin, Shihli, Diky, Rupta, Netti, Dufe, Saedo, Star, and in all reality too many more to name...thanks for the fun times and I will miss you all!
Those of you who are on my various social network sites, I hope you don't mind if I spy on you on occassion just to see what you're up to (and feel free to do the same =P).
Much Love,
(Your favorite reckless fire mage)
-Karin / Karli

I'm going to miss you both
Tankard — Tue, 12/23/2008 - 17:03I'm going to miss you both and I'm really glad that I got a chance to meet you two last summer. If you guys apply the same drive to be the best Mage and Warrior to being the best parents, that kid is going to be the most well adjusted person on the planet :-)
My best to the three of you...
Netti — Tue, 12/23/2008 - 13:04and may you have a wonderful Christmas and Happy New Year. Enjoy this exciting time in your lives.

Glowy — Mon, 12/22/2008 - 12:00Dearest Karli,
How sappy is it that I teared up when I read your post? You know things about me that my friends in real life will never know. I totally understand and support you decision but it goes without saying that I will miss you. I never thought a friendship of someone I never met would mean so much to me but it does. No matter what happens in life you will always have friend inCali . Totally going to myspace spy so don’t delete that account.
Love ya,
<3 <3 <3 Glowy/ Melissa
Thanks for all the kind
Karli — Thu, 12/18/2008 - 21:51Thanks for all the kind words. We will try not to be strangers, and I miss you guys already! I have been enjoying some stuff I haven't been able to do much of in a while though. We've been kinda stuck in the house due to shitty weather and I've spent the last few days watching way too much Food Network and cooking all sorts of yummy stuff. We got our fire place working and have been having beautiful fires at night...I had forgotten how soothing an open fire can be.
Colin learned how to grasp a rattle, and we've been seeing some consistent smiles that just melt your heart; especially after hours long crying boughts.
Dalene, we would love to stop by for a bit as long as you don't mind us toting the kid along, even if it's just for an hour to say hi.
Anyways, keep kicking ass and I hope to see that Realm Rank climb in the coming weeks!
<3 you guys,
-Karli
If you guys come, I EXPECT to

Dikymo — Sat, 12/20/2008 - 02:41I wish nothing but the best for all three of you. i havent been around much myself but ill miss both of you. Enjoy the holidays with the little man. Please dont be a stranger!!
Hey, good luck to both of ya!
Ewiges — Sat, 12/20/2008 - 04:14Hey, good luck to both of ya! Its been a great pleasure being able to raid with the both of you during Burning Crusade. Ky knows how much fun we have all had especially in group 5 chat, and without each of you that would have been less of an online party. Best of wishes for Colin and I hope, nay, I pray that the two of you won't be strangers to IRC or the forums whenever either of you get bored. There is a strong community here at downfall and warcraft and it is sad to see some of it go, but it takes little effort to log on once in a while and just drop a hello and it would probably be most welcomed from all of us!
Yes come, yes bring kiddo.

All jokes aside....this is a very smart move for you guys. A strong support network is important to have in the early years, and as much as we all wish we could, our virtual support isn't what you need. Enjoy that beautiful baby, your friends and your family.
Eventually you'll get old (like me), and your friends will get older, and life will slow down a bit. The kiddo will begin to do things on his own weather it be playing in the back yard, playing video games, hanging in his room with a giant black sharpe makeing you a pretty picture on your freshly painted white walls...lol I suspect we'll see you 2 again when Mr. Colin is old enough to wipe the raid on Vashj and say "you got killed" and laugh hystarically with the raid he just wiped. ;)
Raid : Golden Panda Showers played a huge part in my path to downfall, we became pretty tight in those 10000 SLabs runs...lol You and Ky were the first real connections we made inside of DF when we joined....and this I will never forget.
I will close by saying good luck in life, I will miss you both horribly, and hit you with this little bit of nostalgia (nostalgia shout out to Grasen and Keshini, GPSers missing in the picture):

I'm sorry Drew will be living
Agoney — Wed, 12/17/2008 - 11:06I'm sorry Drew will be living in your city soon, i feel your pain.
While it might be the end of an era, it's the start of a new one. You guys definetly made the right choice, you will find it much easier and probably less stressful with one less thing to juggle and commit too. I've really enjoyed being able to raid and play with you guys over the years. Don't be strangers, stop by the site or wherever when you have some free time! If I ever make it out to the west coast, I'll be sure to bring some Brooklyn beer just to prove the east coast is still the bomb!
Take care!
ps. If you need help pickin out some Nikes, you know where to hollar.
I will miss you both alot.
Grasen — Wed, 12/17/2008 - 08:00I will miss you both alot. We will meet again though. I have every intention of takeing a trip up there one day. Hopefully this year, Yall damn well better make sure i see yall and the kiddo :)

I am proud of you guys coming into your own and taking care of eachother =) Best of luck to you three and definately stop by and say hello once in a blue moon! You are already missed<3333333 And again, congratulations =D

I'm gonna miss you guys!!
garreth — Wed, 12/17/2008 - 02:18I'm gonna miss you guys!! Promise me you'll get the kid to roll at DK as soon as he grows fingers. Kids don't have fingers when they're born right? Don't be strangers on the site and let's chill in portland :)
Bye Guys! You were fun to
jaibyrd — Tue, 12/16/2008 - 23:41Bye Guys! You were fun to play with but I too am glad you are keeping in perspective the 'living' part of life. Be there, enjoy and cherish...it really really does fly by at a certain point and you can't believe it went so fast.
I'm glad you two are making
Shihli — Tue, 12/16/2008 - 17:33I'm glad you two are making as much time as possible for raising your child. You will be missed, but don't be strangers on the site. Keep in touch!

Allikat — Tue, 12/16/2008 - 18:46^^what he said. I'm glad you're putting the kiddo first...unlike a certain couple we used to know *clears throat*
Well Well Well. Best decision
Enixa — Tue, 12/16/2008 - 17:28Well Well Well. Best decision you could have possibly made. Juggling a child while trying to play a game that actually requires more then "raid times" then getting back into work. Insane to even fathom. You guys were a blast to play with and assuming I get approved I'll be in portland by the 2nd week of January. And for those other Portland people. I plan on wrecking your city so be ready :D. Karin and Jason best of luck to you and definetely keep in touch. Yadidimean!?
You'll both be missed. And
Saja — Tue, 12/16/2008 - 17:26You'll both be missed. And maybe we can actually hang with you more in the flesh lol.
And don't forget to call me if you need a babysitter so you can have a night out ;)
if you're down: Saturday at 7 ...if you're up for some ugly sweater goodness and ornament exchanging!
Dear Karen and Jason, I'm so
Katibug — Tue, 12/16/2008 - 17:19Dear Karin and Jason,
I'm so happy for the both of you that you have started a lovely family. I was kind of expecting this day to come, but it's a joyful kind of leaving, not an "I'm emo, QQQQQQ I got no loots so I'm going somewhere else."
I commend you for trying to play with the new addition, but I can't even imagine being in your shoes and trying to take on so much responsibility.
I wish you guys only the best and I hope that you stay in touch. Dalene is having a Christmas Sweater party on Saturday night that I'm sure she wouldn't mind if you guys stopped in to say hi. You could even dress up the kiddo in his own ugly sweater!!
Best of luck with the new family and being picture perfect. That clip is adorable, btw!
