Looking to build a new comp......

So I'm looking to build my first computer. After many years of taking my own computer apart I know that basics of most of the components. But one thing I am still not sure about is the CPU-Motherboard compatibility. How do I know when I'm shopping for a CPU what motherboard will be compatible with it or vice-versa. Are their certain numbers I should look for on the motherboard that will tell me the CPU type that it is compatible with. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

CPU's have a 'socket type' - motherboards are designed with matching socket types.

www.newegg.com makes this easy to select. Pick your cpu and they will even offer you some combo deals with a motherboard.
