Crashed Hard Drives suck

So, a week ago today i got a call from my fiance while I was at work. She had tried to turn my computer on and like every other electronic thing she touches it said no. I got home and preceded to spend the next 6 hours with my roommate(also a tech weenie) trying to recover any data that could be salvaged. At that point I gave up hope on getting info off and tryed to do a new install. It was then that we discovered that there were too many bad sectors on the hardrive to format it much less install II, wine, and wow. So I RMAed it back to segate due to the holiday they only recieved it today and began processing it. I had went ahead and bought a new hard drive (western digital caviar black) and that arrived today. Between the start of school this week and work I may not get a chance to get wow installed and up to date till this weekend. Just thought i would up date you all on the situation.
for those who are curious of such things I believe the error was something to the effect of " one of your partitions crosses the 1024 threshhold

UPDATE: This is a nice little
coretwo — Wed, 01/21/2009 - 20:35UPDATE:
This is a nice little tidbit for those of you thinking of drinking the coolaid and jumping on the ubuntu bandwagon. There is currently an issue with wine 1.0.13 were if you're using the online installer it won't properly connect to the internet and will cancel the install. Easy fix: install wine 1.0.12 install wow and then update your wine back to 1.0.13. then you can continue with your regular configuration'
ps coolaid tastes pretty good try it!

Looks like you may have
garreth — Wed, 01/21/2009 - 15:53Looks like you may have gotten hit by the Seagate firmware fiasco:
KABOOm!
Western Digital FO' LIFE!!!!
Meh, it was my understanding
starstalker — Wed, 01/21/2009 - 18:08Meh, it was my understanding that that problem only effected the largest capacity drives (the .11 series is home to the 1.5TB drive). I've ran seagate for a long, long time now, and have been ever since I dumped the failhappy western digitals (which I used after I dumped the even more fail happy deathstars, I mean desktars from IBM)..
I run 11 Seagate drives in my house of varying sizes, 6 of them in RAID 0's (no redundancy/backup), so its safe to say I do trust tehm. I also run 3 Western Digitals. 2 of the WD's are raptors, and the other is the 1TB in my media center (Which has failed twice before, but for some reason WD doesn't want to send me a seagate drive in return =P).
