Life After Raiding
Karli — Wed, 03/04/2009 - 11:23
So as many of you know I recently re-activated my account and have logged in for a few short stretches. After spending a week with enough free time to play crappy video games, I figured I might as well do something I enjoyed a bit more.
Well, enough time has passed for me that I feel a bit lost. My gameplay for so long was centered on raiding that I kinda don't know what to do with myself! I've been toying around with the idea of doing pvp (in battlegrounds) because that's the easiest way for me to have flexibility to step away if need be.
The nice thing is that the last month has made a major difference in how much care my son needs, and I've really been enjoying getting some of my free time back. He's starting to consistently go to bed earlier, and even though he still wakes up a LOT at night (and hence I wake up), he sleeps very well during the night time hours.
My question to you all is: what's your take on solo-ish play these days? One of the reasons I stopped playing wow was because I couldn't commit to doing things w/ other people (as to not want to inconvenience them if I had to bail at a moment's notice). Once upon a time I played completely on my own on another server (on a horde mage) and didn't even have a guild, so I know there was a period when I enjoyed solo play.
I miss the group game play and whatnot, but I know it's completely possible to have lots of fun doing solo things on wow. I just need some ideas and inspiration!

Cdhabro — Wed, 03/04/2009 - 19:15I poopsocked through the quest content and have little interest in the achievement system (outside of the few with rewards that interest me).
I spend a good bit of my time playing on the AH and get satisfaction out of being able to assist guildies with finances//items when i am aware of the need.
Hey Karli, one of the things
Tankard — Wed, 03/04/2009 - 14:04Hey Karli, one of the things I've found enjoyable for solo play is to give myself a goal that is soloable and work towards it. Frequently, this is a piece of gear. Some of your options: There is epic gear for nearly every rep faction at exalted. There's a great caster ring that sells for 8000G. There's epic craftable gear that requires grinding up your skils and gathering a ton of mats and there's some really good pvp gear you can buy just for honor points (not even BG tokens).
what I do when I cant sit down for more then 10 mins at a time.
Jayel — Wed, 03/04/2009 - 13:15Having small children of my own I know how difficult it can be to get on for a long period of uninterupted time. I find that plaing around on alts or herb/mining is a constructive and fun way to play. If Karli is a gatherer you can fly around and kill horde (usually very fun), since you can afk on your bird/dragon at about any time.
If you havent done so yet I would make a DK alt and atleast go through the beginning quest line. I felt it was pretty awesome even though my DK now rots at the bottom of my character list (this summer she'll get to 80 unless I actually find a good job after graduating).
This might not take you very long but it might give you another character to get on for a little bit and just have fun with.
I've spent a month in
garreth — Wed, 03/04/2009 - 13:12I've spent a month in Icecrown and am still not done there. I think I'm going to run around and do all the quests just for shits and giggles :)
If you see me tinkering
Fjork — Wed, 03/04/2009 - 15:10If you see me tinkering around out there garreth and you have some group-quests you need done, just lemme know. I solo'd alot of them, but there a crapload that even my poor 26k hp tankadin just can't handle.

Running flags in full prot
Epatrick — Tue, 03/10/2009 - 16:06Running flags in full prot gear is very fun, especially when a healer sees you and goes "oh hey, 33k health, he should run the flag" I've done about five wsgs where I've ironmanned it lol
You can always achievement
Katibug — Wed, 03/04/2009 - 11:44You can always achievement grind solo. I'm working on completing the Icecrown quests to finish up all of the quest achievements for Northrend. I still have quests on the other continents to do as well.
There is a ton of stuff to do if you focus on achievements!
I started doing some of the
Karli — Wed, 03/04/2009 - 12:18I started doing some of the loremaster quests for Azeroth and was amazed at how many quests short I still am, even after doing a grind to get exalted in the major cities factions for low level quests. It was kind of fun to go back there, but I got bored after a while. However, I really haven't spend a whole lot of time in Northrend, so doing the loremaster stuff there sounds like a good start. Thanks for the idea Katie!
Music helps me when I start
Katibug — Wed, 03/04/2009 - 13:03Music helps me when I start to get bored. One headphone on the ear, the other not so you can listen to the baby monitor :P
