DPS and tanking specs
Olorien — Thu, 04/16/2009 - 14:45So this is my Blood DPS spec. With the nerf they added to the patch towards the end of the ptr the testing I did had the perma ghoul doing more dps than the dancing Rune Weapon. Plus the 5 points in impurity make you DCs hit that much harder.

As for my Tanking Spec I have always been a frost guy. That being said I stayed away from unholy in this build because I wanted to get into Rune Tap. The idea being that pestilence will keep up my diseases Runetap will keep my blood runes on cool down and then I can just HB/OB with my frost and unholy runes. I also get Imp Icy Talons for because I like to go down to Icy Talons anyway for the increased attack speed and what's one point so you don't need a second frost DK in raid.

As for your other specs:
The frost DPS spec I would take the 3 points out virulence and put them in Rune Tap, but those are really preference points. I like the Unholy DPS build and for striaght out top dps I think it will be the best of the three.
I like you blood tanking spec but have never tanked blood so it is just a theory observation, but it looks like you put the points in the right places. The same thing holds true with your Unholy tanking build.
After doing some reading and
Olorien — Fri, 04/24/2009 - 12:23After doing some reading and testing I have altered my spec this is what we I am running now. I should have some better idea how this does dps wise.

I'm most familiar with Blood
Shihli — Sun, 04/19/2009 - 01:39I'm most familiar with Blood and Unholy tanking. My Blood tanking build is a mild adjustment of the build I used to tank Sartharion on Sarth 3D 10-man. Unholy tanking is what I started out as in Wrath.
I tested a bunch of different
Keisjaa — Thu, 04/16/2009 - 12:31I tested a bunch of different specs on the PTR so i'll give you what i know from that:
DPS SPECS:
Blood: http://www.wowhead.com/?talent#jfVMqh0Icfof0sxZfMhhLcz:AGLMmV
-The shift in pts is mostly preference(i took unholy blight over DRW cause i found it more useful & a bit less maintenance)
-Rune tap vs Mark of Blood is also preference
Frost: I use the spec you posted as is & like it but there are some caveats
-you need the 4pc t7 & Unholy presence to make it work(UP to use up the extra rp/Gcd's with frost strikes)
- I like FINALLY being able to pick up Virulence to cover the gap in spell hit(without having to spend 5 more pts)
- the other spec i tried with similar results was http://www.wowhead.com/?talent#jcZG0xxAbckf0VostfM0hxM:sakMmV
Unholy: I tested out http://www.wowhead.com/?talent#jZG0xZfMhIxMdgcqMcsut:LrAMmV
-It was prolly the highest dps on the dummy(acounting for things like necrosis & such)
-Less dependent on gear(2pc vs 4pc did the same dps, just made RP a little more free flowing)
-LACK of Subversion for Aggro reduction (you could steal the 2pts in epidemic for it if you needed)
Regarding your build, I'm curious that you skipped Unholy Blight and took the bone shield glyph(with the CD at 2mins seems odd)
TANK BUILDS:
since it's the oly one i've tried so far
Frost: http://www.wowhead.com/?talent#j0EMZhxx0AbIoc0iost0xh:awkMmV this is the version i took
-The 3pts in morbidity were a toss up between it & virulence
-I skipped scent of blood(I have little experience tanking with it so I'm not sure of it's necessity)
-Deathchill could be swpped for hungering cold(although it's debatable which is more useful)
-In your build I'd personally skip icy reach(and not use glyph of death strike as frost has no buffs to it)
I skip Unholy Blight out of
Shihli — Sun, 04/19/2009 - 01:38I skip Unholy Blight out of personal preference - if I use Unholy Blight my typical rotations look like:
IT -> PS -> SS -> BS -> BS -> UB
SS -> SS -> SS -> DC -> DC
SS -> SS -> SS -> UB -> DC
etc etc
I like the idea behind Unholy Blight, and it could conceivably be a dps upgrade for me, but I prefer my rotations a touch simpler. If I split my attention too much between too many things, I start missing things and end up fucking up Immortal runs.
I also take the bone shield glyph largely because 4 procs go away very very fast. 2 extra procs extends its active life by 50%. Again, personal preference more than anything. As I start getting more T8 gear I'm going to drop the points in Imp Unholy Presence and pick up Dirge in its place.
Erm, wouldn't dropping 1
Dragon — Wed, 04/15/2009 - 13:42Erm, wouldn't dropping 1 point out of something like blood worms in order to pick up mark of blood (just extra utility etc in a raid setting where every little bit of healing seems to count now) make the spec better?
Technically, dropping a point
Shihli — Sun, 04/19/2009 - 01:34Technically, dropping a point to pick up Mark of Blood would be decent, thing is that Mark of Blood is not terribly potent. A 4% damage decrease sounds good on paper (and that's all it is, really), except that the hits our tanks are seeing are significant.
Ignis hits Nuitbear for 25-30k, 4% of that is 1200 damage. That's likely not going to be saving too many lives.
Regardless, none of these are set in stone.
Touche I didn't think of the
Dragon — Sun, 04/19/2009 - 11:42Touche I didn't think of the Hit:Heal ratio. In that sense ya I understand where you are coming from and would be inclined to agree with you.
My current frost tanking
pulga — Wed, 04/15/2009 - 13:20My current frost tanking build:
http://www.wowarmory.com/talent-calc.xml?cid=6&tal=005502000000000000000...
With the icy touch glyph, coupled with chill of the grave, RP generation is no problem, so I don't need scent of blood. I prefer to have Icy talons and improved icy talons to bring an extra buff with me to raids. I also went 5/5 killing machine because I like the tons of crits. Of course, my spec gives me 3% less hit compared to the one you linked. I haven't been able to test this build in a raid setting yet, but so far the damage and threat generation is pretty good.
