Resizing your game window.
Prime8 — Thu, 05/07/2009 - 13:14
I've been trying to find a way to resize my game window. I noticed that a lot of the dashboard style UI mods just sit over your window, which means you're actually unable to see anything under the frames. CT_Viewport appears to be broken, and I haven't been able to get skinner or the other viewport alternatives working. I came across these macros though:
/run WorldFrame:SetUserPlaced(true) WorldFrame:ClearAllPoints() WorldFrame:SetPoint("TOPLEFT",0,-100) WorldFrame:SetPoint("BOTTOMRIGHT",0,100)Reset to default:
/run WorldFrame:SetUserPlaced(false) WorldFrame:ClearAllPoints() WorldFrame:SetPoint("TOPLEFT",0,-0) WorldFrame:SetPoint("BOTTOMRIGHT",0,0)
Unmodified, that first macro will create a black bar at the top and bottom of your screen. The game will resize to fit between these bars (giving you a widescreen look), but allow you to place your addons inside these black bars. I'm going to be messing with it a bit more, but here's what I've initially got:

This is the thread that talks
saedo — Tue, 07/07/2009 - 10:23This is the thread that talks about viewport macros. Though, it doesn't affect frame rates it seems?
What's your question? If

If you're asking if this macro will increase your framerates, the answer is no.
I suppose that was the
saedo — Sat, 07/11/2009 - 11:12I suppose that was the question. A few days ago, some talk of viewports in the shoutbox. Bumped this, with the added remark of guess it doesn't really bump frame rates.
Setting even a tiny viewport
garreth — Wed, 05/27/2009 - 17:56Setting even a tiny viewport didn't really up my frame rates at all :(
I think that's because all
Prime8 — Wed, 05/27/2009 - 21:28I think that's because all the same information is still being rendered. The intent of this is to give you an area outside the rendered window where you can place your addon frames, so they aren't blocking things you need to see. I wouldn't expect this to increase your framerate, except for maybe the tiniest amount if you were switching from using an addon to manage your rendered window size vs using this macro (I'm assuming this macro uses no additional CPU or GPU cycles, it definitely shouldn't be using any memory). I'm not really surprised though.
An additional bonus is if you manage your window size this way, you don't have to update it every couple of weeks. Although the downside is, I doubt this is as powerful (read: configurable) as something like eePanels.
Hey!
Sofija — Tue, 05/26/2009 - 20:54Dude, this worked out amazingly. Thank you for the info!
Getting there. Here's what

Here's what I've got so far. Starting to look a bit sexy.
And here's Prime's new UI: LINK
edit: Ahhh I linked the wrong one. Fixed now.
Thanks for this macro. It
cromi — Thu, 05/07/2009 - 17:23Thanks for this macro. It works great. I changed it so it resized it at the bottom by taking the WorldFrame:SetPoint("TOPLEFT",O,-100) to 0 or changing the y point to a number that suits you better. And you can do it to the left point also making it easily customizable to your preferences. If you take it out entirely you will not be able to interact with the actual world.
Still working at it.
Prime8 — Thu, 05/07/2009 - 17:16Still isn't really where I want it. Maybe I'll slim down the bottom one a bit and increase the top one so I can throw my minimap up there. All I really need on the bottom is my action bars, grid, and MT windows. I currently have 175 px bar on the bottom and 100 px bar at the top. I see a complete remake of my UI in my future.
I should have pointed this out in the original post
("TOPLEFT",0,-100) ("BOTTOMRIGHT",0,100)The numbers are reversed from where you would expect them. So the TOP value is actually the second number (-100) on the first line, as is BOTTOM on the second line. LEFT and RIGHT values would be where the first number (0 on both lines) is.
smexxy macro

There are a number of
garreth — Thu, 05/07/2009 - 13:47There are a number of "viewport" addons that allow you to adjust world frame sizes. I used and liked Skinner for that reason. A great side effect of all this is that the reduced size of 3d rendered screen means your frame rates go up!
I haven't used ...
Prime8 — Thu, 05/07/2009 - 14:54I haven't used any of those addons, although from my understanding using a macro vs a mod whereever possible means less CPU usage generally right? I've heard skinner and eepanels are fairly configurable though, so I'll check them out. I couldn't find them on wowinterface, and stopped myself short of going to curse.
OH i think you're right that
garreth — Thu, 05/07/2009 - 14:58OH i think you're right that eepanels does this too. I should look into it since I use eepanels already. I'm pretty stoked to try your macro though, that's a pretty low-overhead way to do it.
