Ok... so I'm in the market for a truck. Ive been looking around, and Im finding that I tend to like newer trucks more than older ones. By newer, I mean 2000+. I have a budget of $7000 towards this vehicle, and am wondering if anyone has any advice on which vehicle I should look for. Any personal experiences would be greatly appreciated and helpful. Or, if someone has a truck for sale that would like to talk to me about it... feel free to hit me up. Thanks guys.

size?
moriella — Tue, 05/19/2009 - 09:24Full size (f150 size) or small pickup (ranger) sized ?
Is it a truck for working, or just transportation?
Are you paying cash or financing?
well, the size really is
Nellem1 — Tue, 05/19/2009 - 10:23well, the size really is dependant on the vehicle. i dont really mind either or, i was thinking a V6, but i would settle for a V8.
The vehicle would be more for transportation, as i dont need it for work reasons. I was looking at it to have a 4x4 vehicle to take to the mountains for camping/hiking/winter activities. it wouldnt be a daily driver, unless my current vehicle takes a turn for breakdown town.
and i am financing. already have been approved for a loan for the above amount. i would have gone for more, but my current vehicle is still under it's lein and im trying not to get into excessive amounts of debt. especially for items that are for pleasure purposes.
Any plans for towing? In my
Ewiges — Tue, 05/19/2009 - 11:29Any plans for towing? In my suggestions if you can get a light weight pickup do it. A ranger, tacoma, or f150 will be fine if you don't need a larger truck.
the only plans for towing
Nellem1 — Tue, 05/19/2009 - 11:56the only plans for towing that i have would to tow a trailer or something to go camping in. outside of that, no major towing that i plan on doing.
I contacted a seller earlier about a 2000 dodge dakota. seems to be a decent vehicle from what i read and saw. going to take a look at it on friday:

I used to work in the auto
Prime8 — Tue, 05/19/2009 - 12:13I used to work in the auto industry. Get a ford. I've seen all the different companies' manufacturing, with the exception of Crystler and most of the korean imports. Ford has a real focus on quality the others just don't have. Its the reason they're still making cars while GM and Chrysler are going under.
Thanks prime, I'll take that
Nellem1 — Wed, 05/20/2009 - 13:47Thanks prime, I'll take that into consideration. I also found a decent 2001 F150 that I will be looking at as well. Appreciate your thoughts.
Having my dads side of the
cromi — Wed, 05/20/2009 - 14:52Having my dads side of the family live in oregon (in the hills of oregon I must say, well hills in general. french canadians you know). And my grandpa be a logger then mechanic. I have to say the most fun i have ever had in any truck is in a 1970s era broncho. Before they got all big. I don't know where you live but knowing most of the mountains here if you get one that has been fixed up it is the all terrain vehicle in every sense of the word. I've seen people do crazy things in them. If you are looking for a fun truck thats very fun. I know that you want a car after the year 2000 but i'm just putting it out there that the style of the car looks good better than a jeep. And it is a value.
