Derchlon — Sun, 05/31/2009 - 11:02For his gear level, those numbers are decent. Were you on Add duty for Deconstructor, or did you spend a lot of time on the boss? I know from my experience, add control is so mana intensive, I usually switch to viper to hit the boss, so I have plenty of mana for the next round of adds.
Second, you aren't hit capped yet. Until you hit the cap, Hit rating is higher in dps value than agility is. I suggest you switch out some of your 16 agility for gems for 2 16 hit rating gems. That should put you where you need to be hit-wise.
Third, you're an engineer, make use of your profession bonuses! http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=54999 is a higher dps glove enchant available only to engineers. You basically get a free haste pot every 60 seconds. I'd macro it into all of your shots to optimize efficiency.
Other than that, keep up the work and good attitude.

Roronek — Sun, 05/31/2009 - 14:45Well our first strategy on XT was the normal tank in the middle and I was on adds for that run, but on the second time we tanked him to one side so that adds would only come out of one side of the map so I did not have to be on adds for a majority of the fight. I was however targeted for Light bomb and gravity bomb a bit more than I am used too which made me move too much and consequently lose more dps. I know I could have done a LOT better on that fight with that strat. I think I was too worried about the strategy not working and me having to run in and slow the adds that would be right next to the boss almost instantly.
About the hit thing, I am only 1% below the hit cap which doesn't equate to a lot of missed shots overall, 4-5 explosive shots if I shot the amount that I did in that raid, and at 2k damage a shot times 3 for the 3 procs, that is 6k per missed shot missed, or 24k - 30k total for the ENTIRE night, and for Explosive shot 30k damage out of 3,469,536 is only .8% damage loss, but then on the other hand for one shot out of my plethora of other shots I can see how that could affect my dps, but I don't see how mathematically it would affect my dps all that much, maybe a 1% loss total, which I could prolly make up for by timing a shot a bit better or getting my trinkets and rapid fire off more.
The engineer thing I had never known that they decreased the CD and increased the duration, when I look at patch notes I mainly pay attention to the hunters notes and I guess I might have forgotten to check that out, but yeah I'll be sure to get that changed quickly. Thanks for the tip.
EDIT: By the way I am figuring the draenei hit buff into all of this, most of the time I am with a draenei in my group.

Derchlon — Sun, 05/31/2009 - 16:11You would only be 1% under IF YOU HAD A DRAENEI. If not, you're actually 2% under. Based on my calculations, simply by increasing your hit by 1% would give a minimum of 45698.04255 more damage (low end) overall to your ES alone. Not to mention your pet, which also benefits from your hit rating. Why would you willing choose to do less damage?
Also, your ES numbers are wrong. Your ES ticked for 3548.21 per tick, for a total of 10644.63 damage per shot (crit and non-crit average). Timing your RF and trinkets better won't help negate that damage much, if at all since RF doesn't affect ES in the slightest, and your on use trinket doesn't change the fact that your improved damage to ES won't help if your ES misses during the duration of your trinket.
I'm going to be generous, and only give you the six misses your hit rating affected(out of 13 practical misses). That means you missed 63867.78 ES damage for the night.
Here is a list of the damage you lost, excluding your pet:
ES: 63867.78 damage missed.
Auto Shot: 10372.04 damage missed
Steady Shot: 3676.755 damage missed
Black Arrow: 5785 damage missed (plus the 15 seconds of 6% damage increase)
Total Damage Missed: 83701.575 damage.
Now, on to the agility you decided to use instead. That extra agility will give you MAYBE 6 damage more to your non crit shots, giving it a value of 8.9778 damage per tick, assuming your crit rate is practically the same. This gives you an added total of 26044.5978 extra damage to your ES for the night. Hardly compares to the 45-63k damage eh?
Edit: To clarify, all numbers given are the crit and non crit averages, giving a practical damage per shot calculation. With the exception of BA which cannot crit.
so what you are telling us about your hit cap

You think you can *make it up* with a better timed shot ,trinket use etc. Not being hit capped leaves too much to rng. What if your shot was the one that would stop a bot from getting to XT and healing him, and you missed ?
To play this game at the highest levels, you maximize your rotation, macro your trinkets and do everything you can to max your DPS. You cant forget about +hit

If you have a piece of gear that, based on how much it adds to non-missed attacks, outweighs hit on that piece of gear, you *can* be under the hit cap.
However, that mostly applies to rogues and DW classes, because the hit cap is unfeasibly high.
For hunters, being hit capped should happen by sheer dumb luck.
Roronek, get hit capped, it ain't hard.

In your case, Roronek, this isn't true, as it is a straight 32 agility --> 32 hit rating conversion that can all be done with gems, without changing a single enchant or gear piece.

That will give you some Ulduar entry level numbers on pretty much every stat you should pick up, and what priority they are with practical DPS equivalents per point.

But thanks Derch on clarifying. I see now the average dmg per shot in the parses and yeah it works out to be what you said, thanks a lot.
Now that I have the numbers I have no problem in getting hit capped. I probsbly won't go for the 64 hit i need to get 100% hit capped no matter what, I will just go for the draenei hit cap.
Also thanks a WHOLE lot on that link I guess I never saw that post but I have been looking for something like that for the longest time.
2 things: you have two 8 agi
Derchlon — Mon, 05/25/2009 - 19:152 things: you have two 8 agi 8 crit gems. I can see you using one of those to activate your meta, but using two at once, EVEN FOR THE SOCKET BONUS is not worth while over the straight 16 agility gem. The next, is that you are 1.5% OVER the hit cap. That is quite a bit of itemization wasted.
Other than that, your spec looks acceptable. That is the non-Imp hawk standard spec, and will serve you well for the majority of the Ulduar fights (Yogg as the exception).
He has been "trained" by Grasen for a while now, so I'm confident he knows what he's doing rotationally. What I'm wondering, is can you stay out of fire Roronek? Do you have the smarts to move when you need to? The situational awareness required to optimize DPS while not taking risks? A lot of our hunters are very constantly present, and thus, there isn't much desire for another one. I can't speak for Salmon specifically, but in regard to Kitten Brigade, it may be a long time before you were able to see action, let alone get a regular spot. you said it wouldn't be a problem in your app, but 3 months is a long time to wait. Are you sure you're willing to wait up to that long?

And yes I can get out of fire, void zones, etc. I have noticed that I generall am one of the few left alive at the end of a fight even if we wipe.
I am willing to wait 3 months to get in one of the top guilds on the server. That is not a problem at ALL.
EDIT: Now I only have one 8 agi 8 crit gem, it might be an old page because I just got Belt of Dragons. It also might be because I logged out in my old belt yesterday on accident because I never changed it in my Equipment Manager.
