3.2 Holy Paladin Tricks
saedo — Mon, 08/10/2009 - 10:20
I'm just posting some random thoughts. So how are the holy paladins finding 3.2?
Basically beacon MT and spam quick heals on the raid right? Been doing that since my Holy-Prot experiment ;p
Another quick tibbit, I finally loaded up Rawr to see what they do with Holy Paladins. My particular spec was a custom one, and appears to be the worst at "Fight Healing". But, it was the best at "Burst Healing". 3rd overall in combined score. I think I can see why, I always hurt when I have to switch to Holy Lights. But if I can carefully manage that, mana isn't an issue and I seem to be able to manage bursting around.
Beacon Tricks, well the first trick appears to have been fixed, can't spam someone with special talents to increase healing for more beacon heals.
The trick I've kinda been working on / experimenting with is what I'll dub, Beacon Relaying.
The first thing I was trying to do is Out of Line of Sight Healing. Heh, though it seems Blizz beat me to the idea, it appears the Beacon doesn't affect me, so I can't spam heal myself. So the idea is the heal the Tank that's out of LoS, via using someone else that's in LoS. I would have to get in LoS every 60 sec of course to recast beacon, then go back into my little corner.
I can't really think of a fight in Wrath where LoS is useful anymore to avoid shit. Maybe partially for Sapphiron. But interesting to try nonetheless.
The second thing I tried was Out of Range Healing. This means I was out of range of the tank, but spammed someone closer, a ranged or something, to relay that heal to the tank. Theoretically, this means I can heal from 100 yards away. Though not recommended to stay that far out for long of course, still need to recast that beacon every 60 seconds. But still, staying more than 40+ yards away can possibly avoid more self damage while still healing tanks, sounds like it could have potential.
Combined, this Relay style healing means I can't be too stuck with Grid Vision anymore. Sure, it's still good info, but have to look up at least once in a while to see who I can use to Relay the heals along. Well, that's until I find a mod / grid addon that is able to tell me the range everyone is from everyone, well maybe just from one target, the tank.
Anyone else got any tricks they found they wanna share?

Even more important pallie tricks
Vitriola — Thu, 09/03/2009 - 11:16Can they jump on one foot, juggle 3 mismatched items and whistle Beethoven's "ode to joy" and still heal the raid? Now *that* would be a good trick! I want to see Garreth do that! :)
Argh never mind all this.

Ok after some more experimentation I found this. Out of LoS doesn't work at all. It appears that I do have to be in LoS of the beacon itself to get heals to it. I tried it using some around the corner healing, healing the ranged that was in LoS of both of us, but not me with the tank. Didn't seem to work.
As for Out of Range Healing, it works, but not as good as I'd expect. It's not 100 yard range heals I can do. I can def out range it even if my target is within the beacon's range. My current guess is that it's the 60 yards, I have to be in range of the beacon for the beacon to do anything. But, this means up to 60 yard heals, 20 yards more room than normal.
Paladin Tricks
Dragon — Mon, 08/10/2009 - 10:43These are more paladin wide but this is what I think more of our paladins should overall address
#1. Divine Sacrifice: Ret is still picking up the talent just not improving it and most holy paladins are getting it now. It requires bubble to use in a raid but it cheeses a lotta fights to use it. 2 good examples that come up are in ulduar. First is XT in any form. Set up rotations with all your priests/paladins to divine hymn/div sac on every tantrum. We should have enough that they can be rotated every time. The Second one is hodir for frozen blows on hodir. What is more, holy paladins can add in Aura Mastery here. The more big damage you can avoid=fewer heals=more dps=more hard modes.
#2. Hand of Sacrifice: IMO too few paladins in guild use this ability to it's max potential (read every time it's up). Sure on sarth it was nice but think about it for other encounters. This one really doesn't require bubble to use so use it nearly at will. Best times here are times like Surges on vezax when there is the greatest likely hood of having a healer outta range for a moment.
Really thsoe are the 2 big ones, since paladins (nearly all now) can combined for a LOT of mitigation.
AMEN!
Elapsed — Thu, 09/03/2009 - 11:06I can't think of a time I didn't pop my divine sac CD in a fight (hell even in mimiron/vezax trash pulls)
I like to do a HoS without a bubble on plasma blast on mimi and spam heal myself, then save the Divine Sac CD with bubble for phase 2/3 depending on how theyre going, (usually during laser barage since any healer who is running needs the help!)
also fully speced into Divine Guardian makes it so Divine Sacrifice has no limit on the ammount of damage it absorbs (current glitch) it just lasts the full 10 seconds!
Corretion
Dragon — Thu, 09/03/2009 - 14:09It is not a glitch.
Due to the way the game calculates damage, since you are immune to the damage done it does not start counting to your health total. If you do not bubble when you pop it and instead get absorbs or take damage it works according to the tooltip health pool.
I don't have the time right now to go look up the exact quotes and blue sources but I do know that it was covered ad nausium in the 3.1 Retribution EJ thread until the blue posts appeared.
well the intresting part of
Elapsed — Thu, 09/03/2009 - 14:33well the intresting part of that is that I've seen it fall off early on a person who did bubble but wasn't specced into Givine Guardian. Hence why I assumed it was a glitch, also I've seen HoS fall off early while bubbled.
hmm will have to check into this further
OMG!
Vitriola — Thu, 09/03/2009 - 11:18"I can't think of a time I didn't pop my divine sac CD in a fight"
PLEASE tell me that is not a euphemism!
