Checking in to see how everyone is doing.
Vulk — Fri, 08/14/2009 - 21:18
I just wanted to check in with everyone since I have been disconnected from the technological world. My computer is, for all extents and purposes, dead pending funds to get it back up and running again. I have about an hour of computer acces a week. Life seems pretty dull and boring without any regular access to computers, TV and even radio. I have found myself reading alot more than I used to: Instead of burning through a book a week, I burn through one in two or three days now. I'm curently reading The Sigma Protocal by Robert Ludlum and no clue as to what I will be reading next.
I miss WoW, yet this forced break is liberating in its own way. I will more than likely return once I get a working computer again but I will be a lot more casual, especially with classes looming around the corner. So guys, fill me in on what I have missed and leave no details unspoken!

What are these books you
Aidin — Sat, 08/15/2009 - 06:26What are these books you speak of?? LoL...I miss ya Vulk!!
unpublished book
Vitriola — Sat, 08/15/2009 - 05:03If you are interested, I have access to an unpublished book that is quite popular within the small circle of those that have read it. It is fantasy (i.e. magic) in genre. At the least, it is unpredictable and therefore has unexpected turns. If you want me to email you a copy, PM your address.
I'm reading the Iliad atm,
Prime8 — Sat, 08/15/2009 - 00:22I'm reading the Iliad atm, although I wouldn't recommend it for recreational reading. Stephen R. Donaldson's Gap series is pretty awesome. I've read a few Dan Simmons' books lately (which is what inspired me to read the Iliad), but he's hit or miss (Carrion Comfort bad, Olympos Mons/Ilium good). If you do read 1984 and like it, pick up a book called Jennifer Government. Its in the same vein and pretty decent. Also, look around for used book stores (or check your library). Around here we have a place called Half Priced Books, you can get some amazing deals.
edit: ewww. Ludlum.

The Anti-Federalist Papers
are two that I definitely think you (and every American should read).
Other than that I've actually already started reading some textbooks for this fall that I bought earlier this week for my History of Terrorism class.
Good to see you're still
Derchlon — Fri, 08/14/2009 - 22:21Good to see you're still enjoying life without wow. If you're looking for more reading material, here are a few I think are must reads:
1984 (George Orwell)
Wuthering Heights (morbidly depressing, but still a very good read. Its by a Bronte)
Candide (Voltaire)
Slaughter House 5 (forgot the author)
The one I'm reading right now is more a historical work, but its really entertaining if you appreciate history. Its called "The Assassins" by Bernard Lewis. Its a history of the Hashashin and the Ismaeli influence on Islam.
Slaughterhouse 5 is buy Kurt
pulga — Fri, 08/14/2009 - 22:40Slaughterhouse 5 is buy Kurt Vonnegut. I hate reading, yet I loved his books. I suggest reading all of them.
