Cataclysm Information and Discussion
garreth — Fri, 08/21/2009 - 13:30
Here it is, folks: http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/cataclysm/
Let's use this as a unified place to discuss what is likely to be the most disruptive expansion yet!
Yes, I'm rolling a Worgen. No, I'm not a Furry.

Reforging
Nuitarin — Sat, 08/22/2009 - 15:11I'm really excited about this Reforging. Allows extra customization, possibly no more over capping of expertise when you need hit?
Reforging
Well this isn't entirely
saedo — Tue, 08/25/2009 - 10:13Well this isn't entirely unexpected, but they'd def gonna restrict reforging stam into dps stats: http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=19377454350&pageNo...
It's too early to go into a lot of detail on the new features, but the basic idea here was to make an undesirable drop possibly more desirable. It still shouldn't compete with gear that is actually itemized for you.
As an example, letting someone turn stamina into a dps stat is something we'd be unlikely to do (or at least impose a lot of restrictions) since that lets you turn an undesirable stat for most characters into something good.
Think of reforging more as a consolation prize or as a way to work around things like hit caps, and not the kind of thing that clever players are going to be able to use to vastly min max their character power.
This scares me a bit
saedo — Sat, 08/22/2009 - 15:52This scares me a bit though. People are sometimes surprised like I only have 17K hp unbuffed in pve gear. All natural stamina. Now imagine I start running around in 8.5K hp all for the sake of moar dps!
But, perhaps there's one thing that can counterbalance this. They said they're gonna normalize the stam across all armor types. Mostly for healers/clothy sake, but others could benefit. That could mean everyone will have similar hp to tanks, well minus gems/enchants, and tanks are just less squishy. Then for pve gear, we'd screw over that advantage we just got for more dps/healing/regen!
I am not surprised you only
garreth — Sat, 08/22/2009 - 18:31I am not surprised you only have 17k hp. I see you vaporize quite frequently.
World
Ybloc — Sat, 08/22/2009 - 07:53They should have been changing the world in every expansion to show the minor and major changes that are happening in the conflicts around the world. Im glad they finnally decided to do that. Although i just hope they dont murder Lore of why each race acan be only certain classes. They did this first with Blood elf palys. Possibly with Drania shamens, although i can possibly see this since they did have contact before outland became outland. When will they stop ignoring the fact that not all High Elfs became blood elfs. High Elfs should be a race on the alliance.
I hope there more encouragement to world pvp also. I didnt hear to much if there was or not XD
Well for classes... Worgen
saedo — Sat, 08/22/2009 - 08:03Well for classes...
Worgen get everything but Shaman and Paladin. Goblins get everything but Druid and Paladin.
High Elves will likely never be a race. FIrst, there's already 2 different set of elves around. Second, they become Blood Elves, and have complete dominance over their homeland. What's left of the High Elves are few and scattered, and would likely take decades in the timeline to rebuild them into a self-sustaining society, if that's even possible anymore. Well they can make it up if need be.
And nothing really mentioned for World PvP itself. Here's what they had on PvP:
High Elfs
Ybloc — Sat, 08/22/2009 - 09:32I didnt think that many High elfs became blood. I thought there was at least enough of a population to have a town at least XD
Well as far as we know, as
saedo — Sat, 08/22/2009 - 10:08Well as far as we know, as the Blood Elves rebuilt their city, gained power, found redemption, got their Sunwell re-ignited, more and more High Elves could concievably just join them under their new banner.
Hell, you can pretend that's how Blood Elves got Warriors back. They are the High Elves that never fell into the magic addiction and came back after the Blood Elves got their Sunwell again.
You can almost pretend all the new classes as old factions joining their race post-Cataclysm
Human Hunters -> Um, what's left of high elves training Rangers!
Dwarf Shaman/Mages -> Wildhammer Clan united with the Ironforges
Night Elf Mages -> Shen'dalar Night Elves rejoining with the threat of Aszhara
Gnome Priests -> Well... Gnomeregan is retaken and the medics re-join the front lines
Orc Mages -> Basically be less corrupted warlocks for them
Undead Hunters -> equivanlent to humans, and they have Sylvannas
Tauren Priest/Paladins -> They're tacking on some lore in 3.2.2, a building faction of Taurens are pondering why as druids they're only worshipping the moon. Why not sun worship and all? So their version of The Light, is The Sun.
Troll Druids -> We've seen them around in other clans already
As for the new ones,
Worgen Hunter, Mage, Rogue, Warlock, Priest, Warrior -> No brainers, they're basically like our version of the Forsaken, another "human copy".
Worgen Druids -> I suppose it'd due to the Night Elves being the ones helping them restore their sanity. So some devoted their ways to them.
Goblins -> I suppose makes sense, they can do anything, but Druid and Pally. Pally is obvious. Druid too, not that they're not in touch with nature. Shamans are and they can do that. But druids are generally more hippy like and goblins don't roll that way lol
Worgen/Goblin Deathknights -> Though Cataclysm and introduction of these races are supposedly after Arthas and won't make sense for them to be in it. From the player point of view, it can still make perfect sense. Any toon you create will be doing quests, yea post-Cataclysm zones, but you'll still be heading into Outland, then into Northrend where Arthas is still in your face with the quests as you join the war effort up there. So from player point of view, you'd have to treat Cataclysm as "during" the Outland/Northrend invasions. Arthas is alive and well until you're ready to leave Northrend and some other band of heroes killed him as you join the war effort against Deathwing next.
The only one that gets me is
Fjork — Sun, 08/23/2009 - 20:40The only one that gets me is the Undead Hunter.
NO Fiddo!!!! That's NOT the bone I meant to throw to you!!!!!!!
Hunters
starstalker — Sat, 08/22/2009 - 18:41I never really did understand why there were no human hunters.
It's cool to bring the
Atakheal — Sat, 08/22/2009 - 06:38It's cool to bring the classic Game Again like it was before. It's too soon to talk about changes, cuz everything can be changed in the las moment, but i hope they can REAL fix our problems in game, class mechanics and versus(Balance).
Looks like this is the prepatch to Fight with Arthas, after this Arthas will be released,i think.
G, Don't post about ReRoll cuz im thinking about it, don't be Evil and leave my consience in peace!! (btw we should reroll everyone to Worgen)
The big idea to change all the world by this event it's cool!! now we will fly in Azeroth and EK!! Great to gank lowies? LOL
WELCOME BACK OLD INSTANCES !! a new version of BRD fucking great and others too!!
"Deathwing" sound to me like will be hard to own the last boss.
Ohh well, lets wait to see what happen with this changes, cuz are too many.
No no Atak! This is the next
saedo — Sat, 08/22/2009 - 07:49No no Atak! This is the next expansion. It'll come after Arthas is released, for he is the last boss in Wrath.
ohhh fuck! after
Atakheal — Sat, 08/22/2009 - 09:20ohhh fuck! after Arthas?? danm...
I like the creative concept
Karli — Fri, 08/21/2009 - 20:58I like the creative concept behind this new expansion; the idea that we don't just have a new zone pop in to existance, but the truly epic nature of the entire "world" that we know it getting forever changed. It seems like some of the changes they are making are more things that our type of guild would benefit from (guild leveling system in particular), which is exciting to me.
I honestly felt like Wrath was, and still is, a bit of selling out to the people who have whined about things being too hard or time-consuming. Call me old school....but back in classic wow I liked that events felt epic (AQ Gates Opening, Scourge Invasion, etc) and that quests are gear weren't the easiest thing to dominate. TBQH it has felt to me like Wrath catered to a lot of the ADD/Instant Gratification masses, which always irked me because it took away from a lot of the fun I got from WoW in the first place. I'm really interested to see what other details emerge over time, but so far so good.
Something to note here: When
garreth — Fri, 08/21/2009 - 15:06Something to note here:
When Wrath was announced, I was really ambivalent. We were so focused on Sunwell, there was a fair amount of BC drama, and I think we were all burnt out. Wrath seemed kinda "meh" at that time. Though today I'm enjoying WoW more than ever, Wrath just didn't have a huge impact on me.
I'm more excited for this.
Same.. I'm already way more
Agoney — Mon, 08/24/2009 - 09:10Same.. I'm already way more excited about this expac then I was for wotlk.. ps im back in like 2 weeks!
I have to say I agree 100%.
Shihli — Fri, 08/21/2009 - 15:26I have to say I agree 100%. I am VERY psyched for Cataclysm ... will post more thoughts later, at the moment I got chores to do!
I'm definitely staying with
garreth — Fri, 08/21/2009 - 15:04I'm definitely staying with Garreth as heals in Lysm (Cat? What's our new nickname?). But the Worgen side of things is really interesting to me. I was never really down with the LOLore of the Draenai or the complexity of DKs. But Worgen is something I can get down with.
Worgen Deathknight. I am
Shihli — Fri, 08/21/2009 - 14:06Worgen Deathknight.
I am torn. Continue with the Draenei DK, or reroll a Worgen DK in Cataclysm ... fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck
Shihli! Your prayers have
saedo — Sat, 08/22/2009 - 10:37Shihli! Your prayers have been answered:
"Why do you think the Horde/Alliance faction changes are less game breaking than race changes? Chilton says they WILL be doing race changes, further down the road. BlizzCon exclusive!"
Wait for racials LOL Nah
Gares of War — Fri, 08/21/2009 - 14:47Wait for racials LOL
Nah that is stupid, just make it. I am going to reroll worgen something for sure.
Edit: Actually Shihli, I would think about it. You did put a lot of effort into your current deathknight, and they will make you a.) delete it or b.) move it to another server to make Deadhliwuf
Well, the whole reason I
Shihli — Fri, 08/21/2009 - 14:49Well, the whole reason I picked a Draenei was because it brought the most possible raid-buff-type abilities out of the other various races.
But with Worgen being a reality, I may want pure cosmetics over raid functionality.
I know I'll make at least one Worgen toon, but I am not sure if it will be my "main" or not.
Shihli, you're post made me
garreth — Fri, 08/21/2009 - 14:30Shihli, you're post made me laugh my ass off. I can literally see you all tensed up, biting a knuckle.
I think the selling point for
Shihli — Fri, 08/21/2009 - 14:43I think the selling point for me may be racials. At the very damn least I know I will make a worgen *something*.
That said, you sticking with your squat little self or full rerolling in the xpac G?
Racials
saedo — Fri, 08/21/2009 - 14:53Worgens seem kinda meh. Goblins look more interesting.
Worgen:

Darkflight, instant, 3 min cooldown, activates your true form increasing movement speed by 70% for 10 sec
Viciousness, passive, increases all damage done by 1%.
Flayer, passive, skinning skill increased by 15 and allows you to skin faster.
Goblins:
Best Deals Anywhere, always receive the best possible gold discount, regardless of faction.
Better Living Through Chemistry, Alchemy skill increased by 15.
Pack Hobgoblin, Instant, 30 minute cooldown, Calls in your personal servant, allowing you bank access for 1 min.
Rocket Barrage, 30 yd range, Instant, 2 min cooldown, Launches your belt rockets at an enemy, dealing 30 fire damage.
Rocket Jump, instant, 2 min cooldown, activates your rocket belt to jump forward.
Time is Money, cash in on a 1% increase to attack and casting speed.
That would be a tough
Dragon — Fri, 08/21/2009 - 14:09That would be a tough call.
Worgen Warrior is also tempted.
G will become a Worgen Druid and be a true furry :P
Worgen hunters will be..........wierd.
I'm especially excited about
garreth — Fri, 08/21/2009 - 13:59I'm especially excited about the Guild Leveling system. It will nice to see a measure of how "awesome" a guild is outside of simply raid progression. People need to see numbers and numbers are easier to communicate than "we're really active".
It won't be a huge measure
saedo — Fri, 08/21/2009 - 14:03It won't be a huge measure really. Cause it's only 20 levels, and likely most guilds that are reasonably sized and raidable will reach it.
Guild advancement system. Leveling up your guild to get access to perks. Game systems panel will cover this more. Personally, this will get me to buy the expansion.
Planned to have 20 guild levels. Everyone can contribute to advancing it. Raids, dailies, BGs, etc will all contribute to advancing the guild.
High level guilds will get access to new perks. Guild talent trees!
Cheaper repairs, less durability loss when wiping in raids, etc. "Mass ressurection" Rezzing an entire guild after a raid wipe.
Looks like more on Guild
saedo — Sat, 08/22/2009 - 10:49Looks like more on Guild Levelling:
"Stockton says that guilds will be able to craft guild heirlooms, for the entire guild in any slot. They will scale every level."
Mass rez alone will get me
garreth — Fri, 08/21/2009 - 14:30Mass rez alone will get me to buy the expansion.
