As things have been going
Celebra — Fri, 09/11/2009 - 10:05As things have been going well here I think it may be time to hop on vent and pick a few brains regarding grid. I have been running it next to my usual mod getting comfortable with it but I feel very much the same as Ace regarding it. I would imagine its because we are used to something else but I feel very much like I don't get enough information from little dots on a square. But then I am getting more visable information regarding debuffs on the raid that I'm loving. I think we just need to customize a bit more to get the information we are used to from our old mods.
Some things I've noticed from
Dragon — Fri, 09/11/2009 - 05:25Some things I've noticed from raid and the questions they have formed.
#1. Since you are using stock action frames and stock party/raid frames you asked watches and scaron to be in your group so you could taunt off them. Why don't you look into grid as a simple light-weight raid frame source so you can taunt no matter what party you are in?
#2. You asked to be put into the tunnel when we were doing thorim because you felt like you didn't have enough AoE threat to be in the arena as a tank. In fact you claimed that you had worse AOE threat than both a druid and a DK. Personally I am calling shenanigans on this. Maybe if we can hear back from some of our other guild paladin tanks on this issue?
This is not a matter of liking you or hating you, but your guild app is really the first and in some ways the last good place of getting condensed information about yourself.
grid/aoe
acetylcoa — Fri, 09/11/2009 - 09:16I installed grid a week or so ago and tried to run a heroic with it, the first pul somone pulled aggro and i couldnt tell who it was, so i quickly turned it off. the tiny red dots just dont pull the attention a glowing red raid frame does.
As far as the AoE threat goes, I pull big numbers on a maximum of 4 targets with avengers shield and hammer of the righteous. Consecrate doesnt pull enough threat to keep mobs on me from aoe atacks like mind sear, rain of fire, and blizzard. I asked celebra how much raid damage was going on in that first phase and she was appalled at how much there was. It is because i cant keep theat on 10 mobs at once unless noone attacks them for a couple seconds. The arena is suited perfect for a pally cause theres several groups of 3-4 mobs.
i'm sorry, but your excuses
Ghli — Sat, 09/12/2009 - 08:39i'm sorry, but your excuses for not having enough AoE threat doesn't work here. Sure, you have AS for 3 targets, and you have glyphed your HotR for 4 targets, but you haven't even bothered to talent your spec for maximum threat. You're missing the most crucial talent to do the most damage, and in turn the most threat: Crusade. How can you fix this? Start by taking out points from divinity[-5 talent points], drop 1 point in SA (2 points are not needed unless you're tanking General, and thats easily solved by carrying around the glyph of SA and another glyph that you're replacing, probably your SoV glyph)[-6 talent points], maybe drop PoJ and put tuskers vitality on your boots[-8TP], drop 1 point from imp judgements(you screw your 6969 rotation by have 2/2 here) [-9TP], put 1 point into bendiction(filler talent) [-8TP], pick up vindication(free demoshout that warriors and bears don't have to do anymore)[-6TP], 3 points into convicion[-3 TP], and 3 points into crusade.
In addition, you don't HAVE to get Divine guardian, but getting divine sacrifice is fine. You can move the 2 points from divine guardian to PoJ if you don't want to reenchant your boots to tusker's vitality.
You asking for people to be moved into your group who you loose threat from is not good. What happens (and this is completely theoretical) if you have 6 people who can pull aggro off you? Are you going to ask them to all get shoved into your group? There's a reason groups are set up in certain ways: draeni in every group for hit buff, etc. The amount of damage they do is so crucial to making hard mode timers especially in Thorim, Hodir, Mirimon, and Freya. By you not having talented into crusade, you are actually gimping their DPS as they would be more worried about being threat capped by you than maxing their own dps.
Doesn't this sound familiar to you? It should be, because you did the same thing on your warlock against one of our newer prot pallys in a Malygos10 run. /node/5607 We told you over and over and over to watch your threat and this tank wasn't that great on his gear, but all you did was just post meters of yourself topping meters after you kept dieing to pulling aggro, and you left in a huff after we wiped 4 times. We brought in another DPS to replace you, and we got though Malygos just fine.
All but 1 mob type in arena
Dragon — Fri, 09/11/2009 - 11:35All but 1 mob type in arena also hits your shield which reflects damage back at them.
All but 1 dps we had with us tends to holy hit 4 targets with their max AoE ability. Save rogues for whom your consecrate threat should more than outweigh their FoKing threat.
Aggro on grid can be customized to be shown however you want it. In fact you could turn their entire border red if you wanted it to be.
Finally with regardes to adds in the arena. All the lil adds tend to die to fast for you or any tank to get aggro on them and if the melee is doing their job then casters should not be an issue either.
Litte red dot wasn't enough?
Aidin — Fri, 09/11/2009 - 09:51Litte red dot wasn't enough? Then put a giant red border on it...or make the whole square turn red...all things you can do with Grid...it's fully configurable. Grid is the greatest WoW tool ever made.....
"Grid is the greatest WoW tool ever made"
Andelan — Fri, 09/11/2009 - 15:06Now that Im using it, Ill go one further, It is the greatest innovation in the RPG Gaming industry since the minimap!
A little tiny square that can give you enough information that it can tell you if properly read exactly what to do at that point. That, is the ultimate badass thing. It's like having a supercomputer making calculations for you on your team during a math turnament for healers...
My favorite Grid
garreth — Fri, 09/11/2009 - 15:28My favorite Grid customization is something that Noboru did:
While tanking, he uses the Grid threat module to make the raid's borders change color as they closer and closer to pulling threat off of him. So someone at 90% threat will have a yellow border. Someone with a red border is getting closer to 110%, for instance. That way, as a tank, he's prepared to act on that player. Cool stuff.
Something I use Grid for: I use GridStatusHots to track my Beacon duration on a player. The player I have Beacon on has a green border. As beacon gets closer to wearing off, the border turns yellow then red, reminding me to refresh beacon. I also use a color-degrading dot to indicate my Sacred Shield and it's duration as well.
All these highly customized indicators can have vast impacts on performance, bringing a player that much closer to their theoretical maximums.
I was messing around in my
Derchlon — Fri, 09/11/2009 - 17:02I was messing around in my grid a couple weeks ago, and found a way to make Mend pet show up in the grid pet bar with DURATION too.
Now I never solo without 100% Mend Pet efficiency.
I have a feeling that Grid can do almost anything at all, we just don't know how to make it do it yet.

I Am a certified, cupcakologist/frosting expert. C.D.A, F.D.A
cromi — Fri, 09/11/2009 - 10:32Depends. Is it soft, sweet frosting. Or bitter, sugar frosting, that makes your tongue die in a few seconds. Because all frosting, most of the time at least, In large quantitees makes everyone want to lie in a corner in the fetal position. I have found this of two factors. The frosting is too sweet or too bitter, and too much frosting just makes you feel fat.
well i was thinking of
PoTink — Fri, 09/11/2009 - 10:46well i was thinking of sprinkles cupcakes for her. i too am picky about the frosting and I don't like too much either (but everyone's definition of too much frosting is different) :P
Frosting
acetylcoa — Fri, 09/11/2009 - 11:32The next cake you bake, while its still hot and in the pan, cut slits from side to side not quite from each edge. Micro the can of frosting for 30 secs and pour it on the cake. makes it so everyone gets a corner piece's worth of icing.
This is an incredible amount
garreth — Fri, 09/11/2009 - 11:37This is an incredible amount of forethought into frosting.

I also really dig ace. Good
Scaron — Thu, 09/10/2009 - 21:14I also really dig ace. Good guy, willing to help do any number of things (log over and cut some gems on his lock, tank, give input, share his opinion when appropriate). My vote FWIW is yes.
Count My Vote Yes
Rescue Toaster — Thu, 09/10/2009 - 20:59Ace is a great tank. He works well with our raiders and he can quickly manage himself in unfamilar fights. I've only raided with him a few times but I like the guy so I vote yes.
Ace did great tanking general
Aurleas — Thu, 09/10/2009 - 20:53Ace did great tanking general and yogg tonight he was inexperienced with tanking both fights and did an outstanding job. He also seems to get along with the guildies.
If its counts for anything I vote yes!
Awesome guy!
Closer — Thu, 09/10/2009 - 16:33We had Ace come in and tank for us in Salmon last night. He knows what he is doing when it comes to tanking. He got along great with everyone too which is a plus to me.

acetylcoa — Tue, 09/08/2009 - 04:31So, I got beaten like a red headed stepchild last night. If anyone has any ideas for talent or gear or mechanic changes that might help I'd love to hear em. As it was i feel sorry for the healers that were trying to smash thier heal buttons through the keyboard.
