I need a new motherboard and cpu :(
Ybloc — Wed, 09/23/2009 - 22:07
Ive been trying out a few new games recently and I have had to turn down the graphics because my Video card was demeanding to much from my 450 watt Power supply. So i went and got a new 700watt one and some ram(to go from 2g to 3g). Aperently i found out my motherboard is gettin old (3 to 4 years -_- ). At that point i thought about it and the only things i havent changed/added are the motherboard and cpu in my computer.
Thus my problem. I know little to nothing about both. I want to keep everything i have and just switch out both motherboard and cpu.
To start I thought i look for a CPU and was reccomended to this site www.newegg.com .
Took a look around and saw these CPU
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103674 3.2ghz AMD
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103692 3.4ghz AMD
Both are AMD. Seems like the best price compared to cost(plus i want somthin over 3ghz(1.9ghz atm about). Im dont know crap AMD and of course all you see is intel bragging about speed on TV.
MOtherboardwise i know i need something that supports the cpu socket and type. But every motherboard has a brand. So Just asking if theres some brand you would reccomend or some you would piss on if you got the chance.

AMD or intel does it matter? Should i look at something other that just speed? XD
What SHould i ignore or look into? Tried to add microsoft sign for laughs
Or is it all generic and it doesnt matter?

<3 the new computer ^^

Getting the Cpu and MB in a deal and I decided to stick with the 1333 RAm after looking at the 2000 and literally lol(after seeing a frigin Fan on the ram & price). I'll probally get a case from a random website. Also take the Video card out of my old tower and use the new power supply i bought recently. AS far as i know this is all compatiable. : )
Any comments b4 i buy

Motherboards
Ybloc — Thu, 10/08/2009 - 20:43Im looking at 2 motherboards, one has under Memory: Standard 1333, the other one has no specifications on what speed of memory it can have. Can Any DDR3 Memory speed work with the motherboard not showing this or are they not giving enough information.

At this point Im probally going to take your advice on the intels and get a Intel i7 920. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115202

Dufe — Fri, 10/09/2009 - 07:57The memory requirements are determined by the chipset for the most part, so generally same chipset = same memory = 1333 DDR3 in this case.

Dufe — Thu, 09/24/2009 - 06:51At that CPU price range, the Intel i5 750 is really the best CPU. The problem is that your current RAM is likely DDR-2, whereas the i5 requires DDR-3. If you don't want to replace your RAM (which I'd assume is the case since you just bought more), then you'll have to go with the AMDs you listed or the Intel Core 2s. In your case, the AMD's you listed are probably going to be your best bet. Find yourself a good motherboard from Gigabyte, Asus, EVGA, maybe a Foxconn or DFI depending on the features you want.
As a side-note, GHz means almost zero these days, don't try to use that as a deciding factor in CPU purchasing.

Ybloc — Sun, 09/27/2009 - 18:26Thanks for the info. I decided on returning the ddr2 ram i bought XD, because it limits what type of motherB/CPu i can get.

Thats what im looking at now. Just need to scratch up a little more cash and im good.
If you're going to put that
Dufe — Sun, 09/27/2009 - 21:00If you're going to put that much money into it, get an i5 750 or i7 860 paired with and Asus or Gigabyte mobo. You'll get better performance for your dollar at that price point.
