Be on during our raid times, we may need dps for hard modes.

Xvii — Tue, 11/10/2009 - 22:59

I'm fairly certain that he actually downloaded an addon pack, thusly his UI looks exactly like someone else's out there.

Wow! Where to start! :P

Tyger — Tue, 11/10/2009 - 23:46

Wow! Where to start! :P Firstly I'd like to aplogize for not responding quickly, I'm not sure what it is with this site and my network, they just don't agree for some reason. Not an excuse, just informing. A lot of comments about my UI, that picture is of a Priest and yes it is an add-on pack, I did no way design/make it nor would I take credit for it. It is not Caith, it is TUKUI. I didn't have a screenshot available nor near a computer that had one on it, did most of it on my iPhone! :P I will be sure to take one if you wish and re-post it. But it does look exactly like that. I will certainly add Grid if it is needed, no worries there.

Secondly, Xvii told you about my name change, I should have posted that as well. I see you all now know the name. :)

Gear/talent wise, it isn't the greatest and I know that. I am looking to only make it better. I wasn't expecting to jump right into hard modes with this set up. :P I took Mining as a profession while leveling simply for the money. You can make a lot of money farming ores, prospecting, Titansteel, etc. There is no other reason to take this profession for me. I thought about dropping it, but it is supplying me with quite abit of coin for gems, mats, goodies, etc. Maybe after I store some gold away I will level Tailoring. About the hit cap, I just got the Cape from H ToC to put me hit capped, also a Necklace and Ring if I need it. Shadowfury was just a choice thing like you said, no real reason. In regards to the no dual-talent, I just never really needed it. I don't PvP a lot anymore, so I didn't see the need as I wasn't raiding all the time, just PuG's, Heroics really, so the one spec was enough. I have the money and I will certainly pick that up. Cooldowns, I use an old school add-on called Event Horizon. Keeps track of DoT's, etc so there is no clipping and constant up time.

I hope that I answered all of your quesitons to the fullest, if not, let me know and I can explain more. I will be certain to be more timely this time around! :P

Good answers...and timely. I

Scaron — Wed, 11/11/2009 - 07:16

Good answers...and timely. I like that.

Glad you got the cape. It's always a good idea to hold onto a few hit items so you can switch them out as you gear up, but it sounds like you're onto that.

Right now, I think you can feel pretty good about your app, I do.

That said, the best way to get a g-invite is to hop into /dfrecruit and be there...a lot. Chat with us and hop in our runs, all of the suggestions you get here are theoretical and the only real way to get into guild is to show that you're practically competent, can pump out dps commesurate with your gear level, and can take criticism well (or like me you have a friend who's a guild officer...but trust me it's a lot nicer to prove your worth prior to getting in than to have to make a case for it later on). Nothing left but time.

Be aware that sometimes it can take a bunch of time. That doesn't mean that you can't hop in raids with us or whatever, just that we want more behavioral evidence of what we think might be a good guild app (which you seem to be) before we let you talk in green.

Good luck, see you in game, and one last thing...would you mind making a website username that matches your the name for your ingame toon?

Yeah, I kept some hit gear

Tyger — Wed, 11/11/2009 - 08:14

Yeah, I kept some hit gear just to ensure I'm capped for raids. Had I known about the recruit channel prior, thanks Xvii :P, I would have done so. I will be sure to now that I know about it! :) Thanks!

I would love to hop in on some runs of whatever it is your running. I do find this an excellent source of figuring out a person, behavior, etc. Just let me know when and I'll be there. By the way, excellent use of the word commesurate! How long have you been waiting to throw that into a conversation? (Seinfeld) Had to do it! :)

I will certainly change my name here to match my toon, sorry for the inconvience.

Scaron — Wed, 11/11/2009 - 13:15

In my line of work, I find utility in words like salience, commesurate, parsimony, and nexus (not the crystal) all the time. ;)

Well it made my day. :) And what is your line of work?

Scaron's picture

This is the first warlock app

Scaron — Tue, 11/10/2009 - 18:34

This is the first warlock app I've seen in, like, forever.

A couple things:

1. You seem like a human being (as opposed to a walking sphincter); we can help low dps but assholes--they're forever. That said, you seem alright. Had you not passed that test, I'd not move on to point number two, but you have. Grats.

2. Gear: seems like you might be getting back into playing after a bunch of time off. You've got a load of naxx gear and some TOC gear...that's okay...but you'll probably be expected to do some serious gear upgrading before you hop into hard-mode attempts. Just something you'll need to be aware of.

3. Yay for gemming and enchanting correctly.

4. Mining? Okay, I know I'm not going to convince you to drop your 450 profession to level tailoring or enchanting, but you're simply not getting the dps from your profession like you could. If you're interested in more dps (and you should be) consider dropping mining for one of these two professions (unless someone knows something about mining that I don't).

5. Remember how I said you were gemming and enchanting correctly. I sortof lied. You are gemming and enchanting correctly ASSUMING THAT YOU ARE HIT CAPPED. Currently, even taking suppression (which you did), you're sitting at about 35 - 40 points below the cap. Switch out that sp / haste gem and a sp gem for hit gems until you hit the cap.

6. The only talent point I might quibble with is with Shadowfury...more of a pvp talent, but honestly it's mostly a choice thing--you've taken all the other major dps talents (with the exception of dumping a few points into soul leech (which may help with survivability).

7. Glyphs are right on.

8. I'd really suggest picking up a second talent spec. I know, it's way easy for me to spend 1k of your gold, but as a warlock who switches back and forth between Demonic Pact --demonology-- (which is getting a serious buff in 3.3), and 0/13/58 destro--you bring your raid a lot more situational usefulness being able to hop back and forth. (Or chosing whichever you'd prefer if you're in a raid w/o players who benefit as much from demo (or who would benefit a lot from demo).

9. Question: how do you keep track of dots and cooldowns? Addons? Watching debuffs on the boss? (Yes, this is a trick question--there are several correct answers and all of them require some sort of addon that you should be using.)

Looking forward to your responses.

No offense intended but I'm fairly certain I've seen THAT exact screenshot of that EXACT UI before on regarding Caith. So if you would be so kind please post a picture of the UI with your warlock itself?

I love the UI.  Lots of open view space.  Just need a good Grid spot, and you're good.

I wish all my main abilities fit on one bar line.  :(

Xvii — Mon, 11/09/2009 - 14:12

Hey guys, he's already transferred and his new name is Grimnex.

His UI is the same on his warlock as his priest, thus the SS of his priest.

I did an armory search for Akademiks and the highest warlock I could find was level 70.  Did you spell the name right?  I wanted to peek at your gear.

Sounds like a cool guy.  Xvii's brother in law.  Must be a cool cat.  I'm sure if he's anything like Xvii he's make a great person to add to the guild roster.  Looks like he knows how to work with an UI as well.

I'm game for giving him a shot.

Xvii — Sun, 11/08/2009 - 15:22

Akademiks (Tyler) is my brother in law, I'm having him app because he's looking for a place to play thats relaxed and an all around cool atmosphere in general, I told him about our guild and how we fit that description rather nicely.

He's an exceptional player and knows his class like I know mine. I know he'd fit in great here with Downfall.

As I believe he already mentioned he's just looking to do some 10 mans here and there maybe a few 25 mans, and possibly even raiding with kitten bregade or salmon at some point in the future if he can be of use to ether 25 man.

There isn't much else to be said other than he's a really chill guy and a lot of fun to play with.

hm

KeithC19 — Fri, 11/13/2009 - 10:37

He seems like the guy who would GTFO OF THE FUCKING FIRE.  So he gets A+ from me.

Being able to not DIAF is less important to me than knowing to STFU during loot. =D
