I love my addons, I use decursive, healbot, religiously as well as some others that make life a bit better also.

Raid Experience:

My first raid experience was at BC endgame in Kharazan. Since then, I've cleared 10/25m Naxx, 10/25m OS, 10/25m EoE, 25m Ulduar, 10/25m Onyxia and 10/25m TOC. I have engaged the first boss encounter in 25m TOGC, but my current guild has yet to clear that fight.

That said -

Antalissa, you could stand to talk with Talisdar, Resqtoaster, or Nickarito in regards to upping your raid performance as Disc. The other night in ToC/ToGc/etc, Talisdar had about twice the healing you did on nearly every fight - whereas this might just be a bad connection, it'd probably be worth your time to talk to them and see if there's anything you could do differently to get those numbers up.

That would be very very much appreciated, and yes I will be talking to all the other disc priests about tips and tricks. From looking over the parses that resq posted for me and a few things he's said I've started changing around my spell usage, but its a work in progress of course. Hopefully with the help of the more experienced disc priests I can quickly get into the swing of the spec and put out the leet heals that disc priests are known for.

As a matter of fact, even this website as an example. This site is very active whereas I think night shift's website is rarely ever even looked at by members.

I'm the disc priest for Raid Salmon and am happy to look over your application. Of course most of my observations will be from my personal play style along with forum strategies from places like Elitist Jerks. Since I haven't had the opportunity yet to see you in a raid setting I can't go into details regarding your play style but I've looked at your numbers during Salmon's attempts at Hardmode Beasts and will go with what I saw there... I apologize that I can't be more thorough.

1. Talents

For the most part you've hit the needs of a disc priest but I'm almost floored as to why you skipped out on two of the most important talents: Aspiration and Pain Suppression. Aspiration reduces the GCD of Inner Focus, Power Infusion, Pennance, and Pain Suppression by 20% and since you specced into 3 of those talents already it should have been automatic to pick those up. While 3 talent points into Improoved Flash Heal isn't bad I just don't see the need for it. My goal as a damage mitigator is to not allow people to get below 50%. And even then it's a single target with massive spike damage so I'll cast Pennance and the rest would be party based so Prayer of Healing would be my choice. I'm even considering taking out the two remaining points I have in that talent for something else. It's not necessary to move those; just a thought. Grace... Grace is up for debate.

In the Holy tree you've specced into Healing Focus and Improved Renew. While I'm ever so glad you didn't spec into Divine Fury I question why so many points into these talents? In terms of throughput Improved Renew doesn't offer much for disc. This HoT is more utilized for Holy as they can eventually crit off Renew cast. You'll see in my parses that I do cast it, but I don't actually want it to be big cause it already over heals a lot for me. It may seem like a PVP talent but I do highly recommend Spell Warding. A lot of raid damage is magic based and 10% on yourself isn't selfish, it's less healing to be done.

Yes, I specced into Holy Reach and I've really enjoyed the results.

2. Gear

Nice gear. I don't judge gear itself that much since I believe healing is skill based over gear based. I mean I'm rocking t8.5 though I've had ample opportunity to acquire t9 gear. Then again I also believe the set bonuses and "increase" in stats was actually a detriment to disc from t8.5 to t9 but not being a numbers junkie I can't really proove it.

3. Gemming

I do like gemming for socket bonuses, however, there are occassions where I won't. Usually if I need intellect I'll forgo the socket bonus. All disc priest forums will state that the order of importance goes like this:

intellect > spell power > crit/haste > spirit/MP5

Firstly, your meta gem is a PVP gem. Never socket silence, fear, or stun reducing gems for PVE. You should pickup Insightful Earthsiege Diamond or Beaming Earthsiege Diamond. Those are very easy to pickup. Another thing I'd recommend is to not ever gem straight Spirit or MP5 gems. I suggest the Int/Spirit (purple) or Int/MP5 (green) gems. If you plan on switching between Disc and Holy a lot, go with the Int/Spirit gems since Holy benefits from Spirit conversions. It would take me forever to explain each thing so here's some changes as a list:

a. Head - Insightful Earthsiege Diamond or Beaming Earthsiege Diamond and Purified Dreadstone

b. Chest - 2 Luminous Ametrine

c. Hands - good

d. Waist - 1 Purified Dreadstone and 1 Runed Cardinal Ruby

e. Pants - good

f. Feet - good

g. Weapon - 1 Brilliant King's Amber (+4 crit isn't amazing considering the int -> crit conversion)

4. Enchanting

Much like my conversation about silence, stun, fear duration reduction in gemming, enchants are the same thing with resilience. Resilience is a PVP thing and doesn't help in the PVE environment. Your shoulders should be enchanted with the item from the Sons of Hodir. If, however, you don't have the rep with them I can understand the route you've taken.

a. Head - great

b. Shoulders - Sons of Hodir Greater Inscription of the Storm

c. Back - good

d. Chest - +10 stats

e. Wrist - perfect

f. Hands - perfect

g. Pants - fantastic

h. Feet - Yes or the +5 MP5 and +6 HP5 enchant

i. Weapon - you're awesome

5. Gameplay

You mentioned that disc priests are good at MT/OT healing and Holy is great for raids. Did you know that disc are freaking amazing for raid healing too? While it's impossible to maintain shields on 25 players, I have been able to consistently shield 10 - 15 through boss fights. Some of my fellow raiders may not be aware that even though I'm assigned to either MT/OT heal or raid heal I will do both along with all the other weird and random stuff I do.

But I don't want to write this on your app. I'll write a disc priest healing compendium for all to enjoy... or dread.

First off, the talents- I had played as a holy priest since rolling as a priest, I was asked to change to disc after TOC/TOGC went live and since I had no experience as disc I was actually told what talents to spec into by my current resident disc priest. Since then however, I have spoken to other disc priests as well as read up on disc priests more so yes I see your valid points on aspiration and pain suppresion and will be changing those here tonight. As for the renew, given I was told to skip over aspiration and pain suppresion, that was just where the surplus points ended up.

Gems-

Head- On the spirit gem thats another side effect of my noobness when I changed from holy to disc. I stacked spirit as holy and I guess I just skipped over that when I was swapping gem's to INT stack. I have however changed them out.

Chest- I've always had the allmighty importance of SP pounded into me, so another noob mistake with the solid SP and the Spirit gem. Those too have been changed.

Waist- The mana gem was a result of me going OOM a lot when I changed over to disc prior to reading up on the spec and learning a good rotation that somewhat conserves more mana. Those have been changed as well.

Weapon- Yes I can see how the extra INT would help so that is changed too.

Enchants-

Shoulders- At the time I didn't have exalted with the Sons of Hodir, but I do have it now so will be going to get the greater inscription of the storm.

Chest- That one I was actually told to change from +10 stats to the MP5, and it will be changed as well.

At the time of my app, the only experience I had as a disc priest was with MT/OT healing, and since then I ran a raid with Poker Face and was set as a raid healer so I am more than aware how freaking awesome freaking bubbles are. I think I had something like 16 bubbles going at a time lol. SO yes, I now know that disc priests are pretty awesome at raid healing and not just tank healers.

I will say that my current guild leader is a jackass about healers. If your not top of the heal chart your not good enough to him, so I've always been told to top that meter as opposed to simply doing my job and preventing damage and simply keeping raid members alive, but as I pointed out, that was when I was relying on what others have told me and I've come to learn to read up on the spec from various places to get a better feel of what I'm supposed to do. I may not top the meter, but when I'm on a tank they're alive as long as I am. I actually laugh to myself now when I look at my current guilds heal meter in raids because I get bitched at for being low on the heal meter, but the top healer is always 30-40% overhealing and now with me discovering the guessed absorbs addon for recount I can get a better feel of what my BUBBLES do lol.

Anyways, since we've both basically filled my app page up, I just want to thank you for looking over my app and the reply as well as the helpful insights into bettering my gear and such, it is much appreciated.

Well that certainly is an unfortunate series of events to become a disc priest. Considering the situation you had to deal with I hope you at least enjoy the spec. I'd hate to hear you wishing to play as Holy and feeling forced to be disc if you truly don't like it.

The next step if you continue with this spec is to roll in some heroics, 10 mans, or if you're lucky 25 man raids. It's going to be difficult to fit you into a 25 man as the people who... took a break during ToC are now returning wanting to raid. I would like to see what your playstyle is like so I can figure out what kind of healer you are more prone to being.

From the parses of the ToGC I saw that your Flash Heal HPS was up to what I consider "very high." That's because I only view Flash Heal as a filler when other spells are on CD. Check out my parses for Lady Deathbringer:

Flash Heal is my least cast healing spell. That fight might be biased because I felt the need to protect everyone so heavily and actually learned that it was melee who only needed shielding during our last pull. But I typically don't use Flash Heal. I find Pennance, Prayer of Mending, and Prayer of Healing to be sufficient when not needing to cast PW:S. But again, that's me.

But what is your opinion on spells? I'm very curious as to what you've observed so far.

Yes, it was unfortunate, but overall I would have to say I enjoy disc as much as or possibly a little bit better than holy.

As for my spell usage, I will admit, I am a flash heal spammer -_-. I'm still learning the disc role a bit and right now I usually try and keep shields on everyone and spam flash heal to people who take damage. I think that is mostly because a flash heal takes less time to cast than a penance channels. WIth my current guild there are usually 2 to 3 shammy healers so their chain heals hit my targets too and penance usually ends up being all overheals.

It's also still kinda new for me to be on raid heals as disc so I'm still getting into the swing of it and my spell usage is constantly changing. I do use penance, but I usually never think about using it unless my target is lower on HP than usual. My Penance heals for an avg of 10k, but with my flash heal spam on someone taking damage it's rare for me to see someone who needs that much heal.

From what I've seen of Downfall members and raids, I like it more and more after every run with them. The members seem really cool and the raids are very well organized.

I was under the impression that not only was Pennance more HPS overall but that 2 ticks outta the 3 for penance delivered more healing than FoL in barely any more time.

Back to cleaving and dreaming of toaster's life saving bubbles.

Oh and Finally, having a Guild Leader/Raid Leader that bases how good a healer is by whether they top meters means that person is probably an idiot. My 2 cents.

I'm not a numbers junkie so I can't prove or disprove those comments. But because Pennance hits 3x times in a full cast it greatly increases the chance to apply Divine Aegis, Grace, and Inspiration. If the disc priest is patient, they'll cast a PW:S before using Pennance to reduce the channel time by 25%. Another thing is that the caster can stop Pennance at anytime during the channel if they know an overheal will occur.

Pennance is a disc priest's best healing spell. No one will argue that. The only spell in our arsenal that brings up debate is Greater Heal. There are those who argue to spec into Divine Fury and stack haste to cast a fast Greater Heal and apply a massive Divine Aegis, but I think that's a load of crap.

My Divine Aegis accounts for a lot of my damage mitigation as it is and it mostly comes off of Pennance, PoM, PoH, and, yes, Glyph of Power Word: Shield. I guarantee my Divine Aegis mitigation would go down if I started casting lots of Greater Heals cause no one gets shields for over heals.

I've heard other players talk about using grid for raid frames, but I personally just keep healbot up and use it to show raid frames. Is there an advantage to grid over healbot in that manner? I have mouseover macro's set up so grid and healbot both work for targeting, but I use healbot because, from what I've seen of other people's grid setup, it show's the HOTs that a player has in way that's easier to read.

Now, as I said, I've not got much experience with grid so if it is better I would be more than willing to change from healbot to grid to make myself a more potent healer.

Grid is more compact and has the ability to show more information than healbot does. If you do want to show the hots in grid, it's easily setup with GridStatusHots. Another thing, when you do begin to use grid more and more, you're not going to need to use decursive, as grid has the ability to show you what targets that can be (or rather, need to be) decursed/cleansed/mass dispelled
