Poker Face, then and now.

Raid: Poker Face was created with the goal of getting 25 people from both of the normal 25 mans who were dedicated to going though Ulduar and getting Iron-bound Protodrakes. Hitting the hardmodes, and doing what our normal raids didn't do. We progressed through all of these hardmodes painstakingly, getting Freya, Iron Council, Thorim, Hodir, and even Mimiron. We downed Vezax, and on one particular night we killed Yogg 1 light. Many folks got their drakes, and together we celebrated for those that had all of their achievements completed.
As we progressed over the next week or two, we finished up peripheral hardmodes needed for others to get their drakes as well. All the way up to Yogg 1 light again. Our raid took an abrupt halt. Attendance has been very very horrid. Over the past 3 to 4 weeks we have failed to even ATTEMPT Yogg 1 light more than one night, due to limited attendance.
With 3.3 dropped on us, our attendance has dropped so significantly that we have had trouble even raiding AT ALL. Several of us who have been with Poker Face from the very start still need Yogg 1 light to finish our drakes. That is the only achievement that we need for our drakes. Without you, the ones we helped get their drakes, we will not be able to get ours.
Poker Face has been put on a raiding hiatus as of tonight. We will not be able to raid next week, because it will be Christmas. The following week is new years, so that won't be an option either. At that point, I personally will be back in school, and will not be able to raid with you anymore. I will have been left out in the cold on a drake. A drake that I did Freya 3 or more times for. A fight I hate. I helped you down Mimiron hard mode THREE times. Many people wouldn't have done it more than once, but I helped you guys. I spent hours and hours wiping with you guys, and dowing bosses with you guys. I feel very ashamed of those of you who bailed on me. Not just me, but Everstar, and others as well. They may yet get their drakes, but for me that is no longer a possibility. I feel sad that so many of you felt that once you got your drake, that you no longer had an interest in helping us.
I know who you all are. I won't call you out, but I want you to know how hurt I am. I feel betrayed by some of the very people I spend most of my evenings with. While it is now too late for me, I beg you. PLEASE come back and help the others get their drakes. Think of all the sacrifices they have made for you to fly around on yours. Don't continue to turn your backs on them. They deserve better than that.

As for HM Anub, honestly I think our focus is stretched a bit now. We're (some of us) now running across 3 tiers of instancing. Oh the memories of running AQ40/Naxx while still fully clearing BWL and MC. Sure, this is due to entirely different reasons (and difficulty), but still...
By the time we all get back to "regular" raiding schedules, another gate would be open in ICC, longer clear less time for old instances, and we're never gonna get back the 4th day in KB raiding I assume. I propose we drop Normal ToC, yes it's only 30 mins, but that 30 mins of no DV/Solace/Reign dropping time could be used on 15 HM Anub P1 pulls instead.
If Friday Poker Face attendence is still sketchy, I propose we do that raid on the following Tues or Wed after it. If Friday really is "bad' for people, then let's do it on regular "good" days. It knocks off 1 KB, 1 Salmon raid for that raid lockout yes, but so long as we do it "soon", it shouldn't affect ICC content, merely ToC. Again, this proposal is just so we can get these drakes over and done with and never speak of it again. Say goodbye to Ulduar, sans the 90 min Algalon runs, and focus back on ICC/ToC.

I feel for Derch and Kog, I really do, and assuming Derch is okay with sharing his account info with someone like you or Lumi (and consequently, answering a phone call to get an authenticator code) it should not be troublesome to get his toon in for Yogg 1-light. Kog should be around by the time we get there as well.
From the get-go, Poker Face was intended to be a Friday night thing. It was not intended to supercede Kitten Brigade *or* Salmon. I would prefer to keep it that way.
We *will* finish Derch and Ever and Kognus' drakes. The holidays are not likely the best time to try and force it to happen though.
EDIT - re-read Kognus's post. Reads to me like he won't be around this coming Monday due to holiday festivities - which, to me, reads like he won't be at home until January. Which rules him out for Tuesday anyway.
I still think our best time to resume this instance will be after the holidays.

Poker Face was, in addition to a drake raid, created as an optional friday raid for KB and Salmon. OPTIONAL. Forcing an optional raid down people's throats on a different night is, well, kinda messed up.
Trust me, I agree with all the points from the people who still want to keep this raid going. I also sympathize with the people who have shown up regularly that are being held back from their drakes based on attendance. I will continue to show up as needed and able, and continue to take the raid seriously while im there.
In addition to the drake and algalon factors, there is a healer who is getting progressively closer to a mace... It would benefit Salmon greatly to see this mace brought to completeion.
Lastly, Ulduar sucks. It's 2 patches old and it sucks. Im done crying about it. While we're in there, let's take it seriously, pay attention, and get it done. We outgear it by a very wide margin, so a focused and attentive raid should blast though there. BTW, focused and attentive raids are fun.

Derchlon — Mon, 12/21/2009 - 17:41I agree with both Shihli and Onrique. Ulduar is old content. We knew that going in as a combined raid, and Poker Face was designed as optional. I had just hoped for better turn out from those that managed to get their drakes on Fridays. I do not support tossing aside a progression night, to run a few people through a hardmode in old content. I hate Anub HM. The fight is not fun to me, and yet I would still prefer not to abandon a night of dedicated Anub HM shots. That would be unconscionable on my part, and I will have no part in the selfishness that entails.
As for having someone log in on my toon... I didn't reply quickly for a reason. I was really hoping I could suspend my account and save myself the $60 that I would have spent over 4 months. But with serious talk of someone logging in for me, I'm cautiously considering keeping it active longer. The jury is still out on my final decision on the matter.

saedo — Mon, 12/21/2009 - 18:59Historically speaking, we've had Poker Face run on "progression nights". A few Mondays, and I think even one Wednesday (report expired but it looked like there was such a raid).
Now was that fair having optional raid on these nights? With a fair chunk missing out due to spur of the moment changes. Part of the reason you and others missed out on drakes were because of these unscheduled raids.
When it comes down to it, only, most of the "core" of KB (the ones on everyday), and the few Salmon that were coincidentally on that night filling the empty spots got their drakes.
So what are we going to do about it?
Well this all still stems on an underlining problem with attendence in KB, but that's a seperate issue.

I know I just came back to the game in a sense, but it really boggles my mind how so few people want to do this.. this is the hardest encounter in the game at the moment, and still drops really good loot. Whether you want loot or just want to win this fight (which, I can say this is the driving factor for me, and i can assume for shihli as well) I dont see how we can pass/give up on this. I'm not sure if its frustration or what that keeps driving people away.
I guess my next question is, why DONT people want to do this? Too hard? Boring mechanics? What? I don't get it, Shihli doesn't get it, and I'd venture theres a few more people who don't get why people aren't showing up. So if your one of those people, nows your chance to give your side.

Me saying I only need 1-Light is a mere statement of fact and not an insinuation that I should get special treatment. I deserve it if I am able to show up for the raids when it is scheduled. Recently, I have not been, and I ask for no one to adjust their schedules for me.
As for Anub HM, I don't care about server #N kill. What I care about is that we have spent much time and gold learning this fight, just to ditch at the 3rd phase. We have put in the sweat, but have not gotten that satisfying relief of finally getting something out of a dead boss.
This is not directed at anyone in particular, but if you're not interested in killing Anub, which is still the hardest encounter available in the game despite higher ilvl gear being available in ICC, you're not all that into "progression" raiding - which doesn't make you bad person or bad player, it just means you're not a progression-focused player.
That being said, I wholeheartedly believe (and this applies for my own situation) that holiday season complications (work, travel, parties, etc) is the primary driver of recent attendance for KB specifically - Poker Face is a different story altogether.

But for some reason if we do run I need Hodir, Thorim, IC, Vezax and 1 Light. I'm really less worried about myself though as I only need 1 light in 10man for my drake and I only want one or the other.
As far as running Mon-Wed this week. I agree with a majority of people here in doing it. Community First Raiding Guild Second right?

I think i've had legitimate reasons to be missing but in the end missing several raids is still missing. Am I a make or break player in our raid? Probably not, but I'm still an incremental raider who could have helped people knock off achievements, and being absent is being absent.
I guess what I'm saying is that I personally don't care about the drake (as close as I may be), but I DO care about the people who care about the Drake. And yea, I've been ridiculously swamped as of late (I'm posting this from the office...on Saturday) and I probably won't even be able to make Monday or Tuesday...but still, I'm very sorry to have let you guys down.

Kognus — Sat, 12/19/2009 - 13:05Crap. One Light is the only hard mode that I need as well because the one time you guys did it was a Monday when I thought KB was doing heroic Anub shots. That is one of two Raid: Poker Face or Super Raid runs that I have not been there for from the start of raid. The other one was the first Firefighter kill that I got in late for due to some RL stuff and luckily grabbed the achievement (though I was there for our second and third kills as well). I won't be able to make it on Monday. Oh well.
[EDIT]You know what, guys? I think I've kind of resigned myself to not getting a drake at this point. Maybe in the distant future it will happen at some point, but the fact is that Shihli said that this clear through is going to probably be the last one. I won't be able to make it over the next couple of weeks because I am back home in Toronto seeing friends and family and saying "sorry, I can't see you from 9:30pm to 1:00am on a Friday night because I am playing a video game with my awesome internet friends who I hang out with all the time when I'm in Cali" probably isn't going to go down very well. In fact, I'll probably hop on to play a few arenas and maybe do a couple of heroics here and there (and I should be on this Tuesday because I can't go out that night due to a medical examination that I'm taking on Wednesday morning), but apart from that I won't be on much at all between now and January 5. After that I will be on every day as per usual though. Haha.
