What to Alt...
saedo — Fri, 02/29/2008 - 20:06
So, I've been thinking about what next main, I mean ALT, to make.
Got me a 70 mage, but that's mostly become my pot dealer. Pretty much done the KZ farming thing. Got most of what I need out of badge rewards (this patch at least), with a potential few others there for minor upgrades so not much motivation to continue diligantly. Don't really like pvp on it cause his gear sucks! lol Maybe next patch when there's the blue pvp gear on rep vendors will make it tolerable.
So this leaves not much left to do on either cept a daily grind, but that gets boring, and on to the pressing question. What should be the next alt?
I do happen to have a 60 dwarf hunter... But literally haven't touched it in over a year, not sure if I can remember how to play one. lol Not much pve experience there either, never got into the shot rotations and theorycrafting bits of it back then. And it's kinda another ranged dps class of sorts. But I do like the name I gave it and it's tempting to just level it just for the novelty of running around with it. lol
Or I could start from scratch. Experience the whole easier leveling in patch 2.3 thing.
Tempted to start a pally I guess. Prot pallies seem OP! lol And should I be healing this seems like something more appealing to me, efficient big heals!
Other stuff I can try...
Warlock? Well I've actually twice tried to level one, but just didn't get past level 25. lol
Warrior? Well I have levelled a horde one to 64. But guess kinda got bored with his crappy gear and inability to access alt twinking moneys. lol
What's left, priest, shaman and druid? Hmm, guess they're possible too.

Go for a shammy. Then you
Mashedtater — Fri, 03/07/2008 - 09:44Go for a shammy. Then you can heal or dps it up. They seem very versitile and raid friendly. I only brought a shammy up to 20 but it was fun. I think I'm more attuned to playing healers myself. Have 70 resto druid, 70 holy pally, 40 priest that will become lvl 70#5, as well as a couple horde priests on other servers. I just use my mage these days to get retribution on gankers whilst levelingmy alts.
One more 2 cents, I like to do several alts at once and as ones rest XP is used up, switch to another alt and repeat.
Maybe other then Ret
Agoney — Mon, 03/03/2008 - 13:46Maybe other then Ret Paladins, I'dsay Shadow priests are the "hardest" dps class to manage aggro. While every other class has some form of full aggro dump, we have a 30 sec fade that takes off a small portion of threat. Take a look at omen with a flight with a single target, priests are always right behind the tank :p
My girl, she likes to party all the time.

Katibug — Sun, 03/02/2008 - 14:23Upon rolling Sqwee, getting her to 70 and running a heroic Mech last night I finally realized the importance of Omen. I also realized I can't take a hit like I can on Katibug.
Hearing "Watch your aggro, Kati" was very foreign to me, but it shed a brighter light on aggro management and all that good stuff that you DPS people have to worry about. I think I like healing better :P
I have a 70 druid and
Dikymo — Sun, 03/02/2008 - 13:31I have a 70 druid and shaman. I dont yet have the gear to try out resto on the nub but I have been resto on lotus for quite a while. Both are fun and easy to lvl. The question is do you want ghost wolf at 20 or flying skill for 7g at 68?

Frollo — Sun, 03/02/2008 - 12:28my priest is 40 wew! i'm excited to try to heal as that is the only thing i havn't really done yet i have several alts on several servers of every class in the game somewhat like aidin (levels on down the line) and i have to say my little spriest is kinda exciting :)

I tried rolling a healer and
Popplegem — Sat, 03/01/2008 - 19:57I tried rolling a healer and managed to get her to level 7 on Gorg and level 11 on Aerie Peak where I played horde with a bunch of friends from Mbios and Seattle. I then lost interest. Now that Popple's gotten to a place where I really can't raid much with her (due to my own schedule) and I'm gearing up for The Great Move (aka, leaving college) I'm thinking about rolling a healer to just hear what all of you always complain.. I mean talk about.

Don't listen to aidin,
Epatrick — Sat, 03/01/2008 - 19:07Don't listen to aidin, tanking is not something you can do while watching tv in BC. Too many AoE's, mobs that need taunting, healthstones that need popping, mages that need bopping (or intervening w/e) I watch grid just as much if not more on my tank than on my healer for the simple fact that red dots on grid are easier to see than one ghoul running out of the pack towards One of our overzealous Warlocks in MH. Pally tanks actually can target a friendly player and taunt off up to three mobs that may be looking to smash it's face in, so having the ability to actively pull threat back without targetting an unfriendly is awesome. I tank heal and dps on different toons, they're all interesting, challenging and engaging, although I haven't found many heroic groups willing to let me heal them :x
Truth be told, last fall I
Derchlon — Sat, 03/01/2008 - 16:09Truth be told, last fall I was talking with Garreth at his parents Café, and we discussed the aspects of the healing classes and convinced me to roll a healer myself. At the time, it wasn't worth leveling the character when I still needed to gear up Derchlon with Heroics/Kara and such, but after that, I picked up playing a shaman more hardcore, so I could go resto eventually.
I even rolled resto spec for an instance run through Sunken Temple, and it was unbelievably fun. As a hunter, I memorize a shot rotation based on my situation and mana reserves, but as a healer I got to make decisions like "heal a bit here on the MT, oh he doesn't need it yet. I'll stop casting and start again to save mana, maybe pick up the rogue a bit, chain heal" and so on. I had so much fun, and I can't wait to go resto once more when Feudara hits 70.
Earthshield is Hax BTW.
Tank or a Healer... Tank if
Aidin — Sat, 03/01/2008 - 09:19Tank or a Healer...
Tank if you wanna watch TV while you play...Healer if you want to really experience a different game dynamic. Tanking is much like rogueing ..but with plate and you're SUPPOSE to have a red dot on Grid.
You'll find warlock is just like your mage, with fear...not too much different, but you'll miss blink and frost nova.
But a healer will give you a whole new respect for the game and those who keep you alive every raid.
These are of course just my opinions. I have a 70 holy pally of course, 70 mage, 70 rogue, 62 s.priest , 61 warrior, 43 druid, 37 hunter, 28 lock. So I've played them all...except a shaman for some reason...but i hear their heals are OP...lol.
Who do "I" enjoy the most? Pally, Rogue, Druid and Hunter.

starstalker — Sat, 03/01/2008 - 07:13Shihli broke my firefox!
Anyways, Saedo, I'd reccomend rolling a pally or a druid. Want to heal? sweet. Want to tank? ok. Want to dps? Well...you have your druid. =P
Maybe we can mke it a guild effort to get garreth's mage to 70. I'd love to hear him shout "GRID MEH!!!"
And yes, I rolled an alt healer. I actually have 3 other toons besides my hunter, but the only one I really ever play and cared enough to get to 70 was my druid, and I use him primarily for healing. Its a very interesting change of scenery.
/flings poop at Garreth

Epatrick — Sat, 03/01/2008 - 03:50I also vote Garreth role a dps class and get it to 70, CC/threat/resource management is nowhere near as easy as you make it seem. Life's a little harder when you can't heal yourself and have no bubble. Saedo, only roll a paladin if you're ready to autoattack, and autoattack and judge...and autoattack. It's one of the most versatile (spec based) and rewarding classes to play when properly geared at 70, it is the bane of your existence until then.

I still recommend Garreth
Shihli — Sat, 03/01/2008 - 03:07I still recommend Garreth pick up a dps'er and get it to 70.
So we can talk about shot cycling and such.
That's what I did!
Cisper — Sat, 03/01/2008 - 01:43That's what I did!
Roll a healer, Saedo.
garreth — Sat, 03/01/2008 - 01:41Roll a healer, Saedo.
Seriously, I have a massive lack of respect for people with five DPS alts. Roll a healer, get a look at this ENTIRE OTHER side of the game that is about OTHER people. Do it.
Then we can talk healing coefficients and blink decision making.
Hehe. I did purposely
saedo — Sat, 03/01/2008 - 02:11Hehe. I did purposely avoid trying healer cause I just didn't think I could do it. I figure I'd have to pay attention to the game 100% of the time. Can't be watching TV on the side (where permitting). lol Mad props to those of you that do this every day!
Hmm, so healer... Still leaning towards pally then. Unless I should avoid it and do another class? lol
I was one person that could
Ewiges — Fri, 02/29/2008 - 23:25I was one person that could never play an alt. I have my 70 rogues, then I have a 70 warrior. My warrior I got to 40 pre- HKs. My idea was I could PWN the level 40 bracket. Honor Kills turned to work on a different system and the brackets were changed to prevent one level of class having mounts. I finally got that warrior to 60 within the last 6 months of pre-BC. I got into an argument about tanking while in Asgard. Only one warrior agreed with me. I began tanking MC and prooved them wrong. (sadly by that time the only warrior still with us was the one that agreed with me) Then of course when BC came out I wanted to keep that character at max level. Got kara attuned, did one Kara and played no more. Now I have almost ten characters on Gorgonnash and other realms between the levels of 20-40. Between those levels on either horde or alliance I just get flat out bored. I think, why am I doing this when I can be getting more stuff on Ewiges? So... Ewiges is mostly the only character I play. I sometimes hop on my friends characters or my warrior to do minor PvP or a heroic. Therefor I can somewhat play all classes except Shaman. (Though a lot of specs a can not do such as DPS or Tank pally)
