judgedredd — Thu, 12/02/2010 - 19:21Did some looking around on my old comp. My Gpu was running at 110C+, so i took a closer look and realized the fan on the gfx card is shot. Samthing that happened to my last card.

shroom — Tue, 11/23/2010 - 12:478 thousand things are possible, but i think 2 are most likey: Your overheating your vid card, or blizz downloader is causing an issue. There are a ton of freeware programs that monitor the fans and temps in your computer. If i wasnt lazy i would get a link for a few, but its freezing cold and i, well im lazy today. Get one, run wow in windows mode, and watch the info as you play, looking for any weird spikes. Also check to make sure you have enough hard drive space free that Blizz isnt trying to put stuff on your computer that wont fit. Minimum i would suggest is 4gigs. Ram might also be a problem, but 2gigs of Ram should be the bottom end of sufficient. Make sure drivers and virus scanners are up to date also, of course.
any chance you have a radeon 9200?

Alakuu — Thu, 11/25/2010 - 13:40I've found that generally the auto settings that drivers have for keeping video cards cool tend to be far to off. Its either cleaver marketing or just stupidity. But even with a fully vented case people seem to have issues.
Your next setup I'd advise be it ati or Nvidia get a program that can either control it better for you. or like me. set it at a setting that keeps it 60-70c even under full load. A videocard fan dies. but thats far cheaper easier and less troublesum to repair, or replace than the whole videocard / whatever damage a overheating one can cause.
Also I'm sure others could probably help out more with a proper computer setup but I'm around and I love to talk shop...I mean tech so if you've got a question. Or just want general suggestions ask.
i ordered a new comp
judgedredd — Tue, 11/30/2010 - 10:21i ordered a new comp yesterday, should be here in time for cata. as for the old one, it was over heating so much that i couldn't touch anything until it cooled down. Now all i have to do is get wow on my external HD to transfer over so i dont have to DL the who thing again >.<

saedo — Tue, 11/23/2010 - 11:55Video card maybe? Check the wires, make sure the fan is running, reseat the card.
