PVP spec/ Gear
Dirthvader — Wed, 01/19/2011 - 18:53
I have worked my butt of to attain a full set of PvP gear over the past week or so (except the wep) (res 3450, spell pen 170)
my spec is pretty good as per some pro tips that i recieved from a guildy.
My question , I have a full set of tank gear and can do heroics but my main spec is DPS. I dont really want to respec every day going into TB or what have you. Should I just PVP in tank spec, or dps spec and do my best in a sub-optimal raid spec?
The reason why I'm asking is that I have fallen behind on aquiring gear from heroics (more imprtantly the points) I enjoy tanking heroics and hate waiting for que, and as tank I get right into a run. The problem is, the best pvp spec for me is Frost DK with 2h and my dps set is set up to DW Frost, the specs for PvP and for DPS raiding are quite different.
I just don't want to spend excessive gold on repseccing/glyphing all the time as I don't generate much gold on a daily basis, looking for some advice.
Thank you for your time on this and I look foreward to a response.

DO SOME DAILIES!!! If gold

If gold is your problem, there are a lot of ways to make it. Dailies for one. TB (penninsula) and therazane dailies take about an hour and a half to do both (if u don't get ganked/camped) and thats about 250g right there per day. Respecing costs 66 gold, and say you change 4 glyphs each time you respec. Thats a total of 106g per respec. Gathering professions is also a good way to make gold but say you are in the position I was in in wrath. My mage was my only 80, had tailoring and enchanting (I know u can't make gold off of those 2 professions, but I never put the time into making it). The way I made most of my gold was fishing. IDK what the price of fish is selling for atm, but normally the mats for the fish feast (whatever the new one is called) is what sells the best. I want to say that fishing for an hour or so could easily net you 100g or more, so there is another way to pay for ur respec.
Now, if you are looking for a simpler way, find the 2 specs you use the most. If you are raiding, and you show up in a sub-optimal spec, people are going to know and call you out on it. There is no reason for you to bring a sub-optimal spec and hold back 24 or 9 (depending on 10 man or 25 man) people from downing a boss. Also, I know if I was a raid leader, I wouldn't bring someone in a sub-optimal spec. PERIOD.
If you decide not to do the money bit, I say make your DPS spec, and then if ur not doing rated BGs or arenas and just doing BGs and TB, just build a tank spec and PVP in whatever spec u feel like. If you are doing arenas/rated BGs, build that spec and find a tank in guild to que with you. There are several guild heroics per day, and if ur as good of a dps as me then you have tanks begging for you to go with them....... OK, so I don't have tanks that beg me to go but............ you get what i'm saying.
re:
Dirthvader — Thu, 01/20/2011 - 17:11thanks for the gold tips, Iv'e been sitting around 4500g for about a month but started lev85 with about 9k. Buying enchants and gems to cut to skill up my JC ect and repairs from raiding have drained me down a bit, I am starting to get nervous that if I start respeccing every other day ill go through cash pretty fast. To your point about sub-par spec, no way would I ever raid not being right on on my dps spec, its been hard enough keeping pace on recount with some of the pros in Happy Ending (lumi WAYYY out in front every night) and running around with some low pieces has been tough. My point on that was should I just stay specc for heroic tanking and dps spec for raiding, and wear pvp gear for TB and such. Thank you for your response.
if you wanted you could
Keisjaa — Thu, 01/20/2011 - 18:00if you wanted you could prolly do what i do & respec PVP if you're going to be in a night of rated bg's(since we do rated on thurs-fri you don't go back & forth & can swap back to PvE dps on monday)
most of my glyphs don't really change much so it's just the 60G or so once or twice (if you don't get into rateds you don;t respec & don't lose anything
What sort of PVP are we
Aeolyn — Thu, 01/20/2011 - 09:48What sort of PVP are we talking about here? If you're just doing TB and some Random BGs then I wouldn't worry too much about having an optimal PVP spec. Heck, even a tank spec can make itself somewhat useful in BGs as a flag runner in Warsong/EotS/Peaks or node guardian in AB/Gilneas.
If you intend to Arena or do Rated BGs I'd go all the way with it. Unless you're intending to raid I question the value of running heroics. Unless you want the achievement drake or something like that.
TB itself is less about combat and more about team mobility. I just play there in my general spec and it works just fine. The whole battle there is all about being in the right place at the right time --- not how much damage you do.

Dirthvader — Thu, 01/20/2011 - 17:18Thanks for the tip. Yea I'd like to get into some rated arenas but I'm not really good enough to be relied on for 2v2. I really like the idea of the larger team aspect of it. I guess holding onto a PvP spec that I can do without for my current needs is kinda silly. The only value I have on running the heroics was to be able to pick up some badge gear to replace a couple of low items on my raiding DPS set. I've got some good information from you guys so ill work on something. Thanks again for the help.
